Blue, RAL 5000:

Sound Test w/ Holy Pandas, O-Rings and Calm Depths SA:

Why do the blue prototype colors look so different?
All of those images are shot in varying levels of light. Anodizing changes brightness pretty drastically depending on where the light source is hitting it from. For the best representation of final color, use the backgrounds of the color option renders above.

Who is manufacturing this?
I have a good relationship with a CNC factory that has done great work for us for the last few years. They build our prototypes and small manufacturing runs for my day job. They are expensive but well worth it and have gone over and above to ensure high QC in the past. They are the same factory making the prototype above.

Will this come with a PCB?
Yes! This will come with a KBD 65% hotswap PCB in ANSI and one of their soldered versions for ISO.

How many units will there be?
I am not going to limit the overall number of units (I'm a big fan of if you want a case, you should be able to buy it). That said, I will be shipping in batches. The first production batch will be 100 units to ensure QC with first bought, first shipped. From there I will produce the rest of the orders.

Is the pandemic going to seriously delay this?
Unless something radically changes, no, the factory I am using is up and running at 100%. If for some reason that shifts over the course of the GB, I have a backup that I also trust.

Cost?
$485, high cost is driven by the large blank size and how much machining is done on the 3.5mm top plate. I'm also using a factory I've worked closely with for my day job and they are extremely high quality.

Who are you?
My day job is a consumer product engineer and so I naturally found myself wanting to build my own case and parts. What better way to build the case I want than get a GB going!

As you said, that is pretty expensive for one HUGE piece of aluminum.

What happened to the polycarb option? Sorry if I'm missing something.

Had to drop it. Finishing issues and no way to test the long term durability that it wouldn't get shiny where your wrists rest.

Wanted to keep my first GB straight forward as well.

Hey so the included PCB will be switched to a KBDfans hot swap board (at least just for ANSI right now, ISO may be soldered still). Just not enough time to work out the finalization and verify the prototype of the board in development. I'll have to eat some of the cost but would really like people to get a known solidly working board, especially for my first GB. Of course if this makes anybody want to modify their order, please email me at contact(at)hatchet-01.com

Entering last week of orders. While the GB thread hasn't exactly been talkative, we have hit MOQ and it will be manufactured!

Which color (grey or blue) do you think would be a better match for GMK Umbra?

I think black for sure. I'm a fan of darker boards though for sure.

Hi all, the GB is winding down and wanted to thank everybody! Very excited for my first GB to be a success (granted a very quiet one here). I am ordering a handful of extras and will keep the preorders open and in all colors until those are gone or I need to finalize the anodizing numbers with the suppliers.

Thanks all!

Oh man! I really dig this. Finally something different! The timing and price is going to have me refrain on this one though (and I'm not happy about it, at all). Just imagine - a celestial oriental dragon engraving taking up the entire area under the keys! Or a written excerpt from your favorite book/quote/piece? Or cut-outs and multi-colored inserts that could be placed different ways to change color/design looks? I could come up with a bajillion ideas with this wide, blank space!! Great idea, MechMountain. Please do NOT stop creating. Hopefully next time my wallet will be made of sterner stuff than it is now.

Thanks. Yeah, I've got some wild ideas in the oven. Keep an eye on the ICs or our Discord for updates.

Hi all,

The GB is completed and the order details with the factory are being finalized. I did order extra of each color and one of each pom plate so inventory on the website currentkeyboards.com will be accurate.

We are also rebranding to Current Keyboards.

Thanks!

Is the KBDfans plate/s that is mentioned as being compatible with Hatchet, just all the generic 65% plates?

Yup, the generic KBD 65 plates work. Hole pattern is the same. You will need to choose a soldered PCB to take advantage of the extra configurations.
