Hello everyone,

With production underway for our last project, the NiZ Atom 68 II, we are now ready to begin the Interest Check phase for our new project: the NiZ Duo82. The NiZ Duo82 is a custom aluminum case for the NiZ Micro82 electrostatic-capacitive keyboard, with a design inspired by the Anologue Duo video game console (https://www.analogue.co/duo).

We built the first prototype months ago and have produced more than 20 samples since then, improving the design based on the feedback we have received on the early renders and prototypes from our communities on Discord and zFrontier. Most notably, the design of the decorative waves on the back of the case has been altered to optimize the size and shape, at the suggestion of our users. The rendering below shows the improved design, and we expect to have a new prototype using this design produced in 2-3 weeks.

FAQ:
Q:What quality can be achieved in the finished?
A:Allows some blemishes that are usually not seen when the keyboard is assembled or built. This can be anode or tooling marks. Small color differences between different same-color parts can be seen as well.
Q: Can you change the layout?
A:No
Q:How will the keyboards be programmed?
A: Will be programmable by NIZ firmwire, and the latest firmwire will regularly update by discord.

Definitely interesting. EC is nice, glad there's more stuff coming out for it.

The layout reminds me of the Toad, which I have been a fan of for a while.

I'm not a big fan of the forehead extrusion. It's like you birthed a baby, and then purposefully gave it a defect so it would be different.

I'm not sure about the forehead too, it reminds me of HHKB Bluetooth hump. Look from the top view is okay, but the grill and USB cutout seems to be overdesigned. (I'm also curious about the machinability of the grill.)

The design stands out from other boards for sure, but I don't think it works well here tho. Too much going on and yet they don't serve any purpose to set a theme or provide utility.

I also think brass strip and weight are becoming cliche in custom keyboards. I guess that's just my personal taste.

IMO, 75 EC board with Bluetooth in a simple custom case alone is different enough to stand out from the crowd.

I'm not trying to hate on this. I've been watching this on Discord and drooling for a custom 75 EC board for a long time.

I hope there will be an option with no grill. I'll definitely in for 75 EC board in PC case, but not with the grill.

What's the purpose of the acrylic window on the bottom of the case?

The forehead is over designed and gaudy and I want it. It looks over the top in an industry aesthetic where most boards look the same except for one tiny gimmick. I for one find it attractive and refreshing.

The one brass accent that has visible screws is the one that is one top, no way to modify the way those two accents are mounted so that they're on the under side?

also is that a 3/4ths spacing between the esc and f-row and then 1/3rd spacings from there?

Thanks for bringing a premium 75% EC board to IC. Very much interested, without the funny protrusion up top.

I do have a specific request:

Can you PLEASE make it easier to swap domes on your board? I have a Micro 82 and the lack of dome guides makes it all but impossible to eliminate spring noise due to misaligned domes. I understand you are making different dome sheets of varying weights available, but many of us want to use BKE/DES domes.

Congrats guys, the design will be polarizing but damn it's beautiful.

Reading through the description it seems that this IC is for the case and the PCB, is this correct?
Also, is this planned to be an unlimited gb?

Either way, please keep the WKL as an option, looks much better than without the blocker IMO.

Please go through with this. Keyboard is beautiful! I love all the complicated pieces. That teal and orange will go perfect with GMK Retrocast, GMK Kaiju, or GMK Baltic!
