Hello, this is my first post on geekhack as well as my first interst check.

Introducing Carefree60, a top mounted case that is compatible with any standard 60% and supports a wide variety of layouts with a universal plate design.

The plate features 6 leaf springs which are meant to simulate a softer typing experience like that found on gasket mounts and polycarbonate plates.

FAQ
Q: Is the badge design final?
A: No, I am still working on it, it is merely placeholder text which means Carefree in Chinese

Q: Will there be a polycarbonate version?
A: That will depend on how interested people are

Q: Is the case going to be 60%
A: I have seen many wanting an 65% case design. Carefree60 is intended to be a 60% case and will remain that way

Q: Will there be an included PCB?
A: This case was made with the intension of being compatible with a wide variety of different PCBs such as the GH60, HS60, etc. As such, I currently don't have plans on making a custom PCB to go along with this case.

Q: Is the design final?
A: The design is far away from final and any feedback is welcomed

This can actually be as practical as with split backspace, you will just lose two keys in t :-Xhe process. I really do like the design of the keeb.

Nice board design. The choice for backspaceless might not be practical to many. However, personally I don't miss it and prefer metal over unused keys! Would love to see these options:

This is legit the BEST new idea I've seen in months! A board specifically for HHKB-styled backspace users.
I only wish it had split-spacebars, simply because that's my preferred backspace location.

Also, it's worth it just to see that "Small boards are not allowed to have big bezel" Quakemz dude losing it hard on Top Clack (https://youtu.be/h-yNqauGl_8?t=8166) because he was not sure if this was an April Fool's joke or not :)

This is a very cool idea! Since it's so compatible with the idea of a HHKB-style keymap, I'd also like to see what it would look like with the extra blockers (might be weird, but only one way to find out!)

I am definitely considering a split backspace plate as there are a lot of 60 percent PCBs out there (such as DZ60) which supports a wide variety of bottom row and I too am a split backspace user. However, I am still designing the plate currently to have to best compromise between compatibility and feel.

lol, didn't realise my post got a tiny feature :P That explains the sudden influx in my interest check form getting filled :P

Well, if this thing actually supported a TIE Enter key instead of just ANSI and ISO...



EDIT: I just checked. GH60 is supposed to support it indeed. Problem solved!

Yeah, the Fjell-like bezel might not be for everyone.
OP, are you dead set on that, or would you entertain a more minimal bezel like below?

I choose to do a thicker bezel to allow for a consistent top mounted design. Although the dimensions may shrink later in prototyping, don't expect drastic changes to the thick bezel.
