[IC] ISO Poker 3/Pok3r 60% Keyboard - Closed
« on: Mon, 02 March 2015, 07:19:15 »
Closed

Hey Everyone!

I'm back! Albeit just working for myself now until our new project is launched ;) . An exciting opportunity has arisen that I thought I would post here, to see if there would be any interest in:
The new Poker 3 AKA Pok3r, with ISO layout!

Confirmed spec that I can announce:

  • Black metal case*
  • PBT Key caps
  • DE/Nordic/UK Layout - Other layouts to follow in second run (ES, FR and others TBC)
  • Cherry MX Red/Blue/Clear/Brown**

*White to follow in next production run
**UK will have all four varieties, NOR will not have MX Blue variant.

The cost will be around €109 although, as an authorised reseller I can offer pre-order discount, which will open up in two weeks time and will be about €10-€20.

Would be great to gauge the interest on whether this will be something worth pursuing. Please let me know if you are interested!

Wow, the price looks very promising, considering it'll have a metal case!

EDIT: Would be interested in UK/Clear.

Definitely interested in getting an ISO pok3r. First choice would be white with mx browns but I'd be fine with clears too (haven't tried them mostly because finding ISO boards with clears is a PITA). Layout doesn't really matter as I'll be getting new keycaps for it.

I could definitely be interested, depending on where the arrow keys in the FN layer is located

Browns or Reds would be most interesting

Less than 110euro for a metal case, plate mounted, programmable 60% !?!? That's... AWESOME :)
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

Just had a read and supposedly this has jumpers for Dvorak and Colemak - do you know if this is true and if so what they're planning to do about keycaps?  If they're in the box I'll take a black one with blues (to jailhouse) but if not I'll think about it.

I don't think they're doing anything special with the keycaps, just like the WASD Code.

The first Pokers alt_gr solution is a bit unfortunate for other layouts.

Tim, any idea if the plate has cut outs for opening the switches without desoldering?
I doubt it but I'll certainly request it!
That would be wicked! Crossing my fingers.

No LED options this time around, but I believe the PCB has the option for the end user to install whatever they want!
How about controller and firmware? If I solder a LED for some or all keys, will the firmware support them out of the box or would I have to upgrade?

Does it support reactive typing mode? (where the key lights up when I press it, instead of all keys pressed all the time)

More so curious to see if GMK would allow a groupbuy in that colorway now

Sorry for the delay everyone - I got ambushed by monkeys wielding rubber dome keyboards and took a blow to the back of the head, but fear not, in my dizzy state I dispatched them quickly with my Model M. The received blow, did cause me temporary amnesia however so I had forgot all about this thread!

Alas I am here now! So update is...

  • RRP is now looking to be €119 due to weaking €. (unconfirmed)
  • No LED option at first, nor will the PCB be compatible (confirmed)
  • Black metal case (confirmed), white in next batch (confirmed)
  • PBT key caps with laser legends (confirmed)
  • UK, DE, NOR layout in first batch (confirmed)
  • Red, Blue, Brown and Clear Cherry MX switches - blue not available in DE or NOR layout (confirmed)

LEDs routing is not that complicated when you already have the other components implemented. It does not make sense a previous version with no LED support, if the final product will have it.

The new placement of the arrow keys is the worst decision I think they could've made.

The fact that the FN position is also on the right doesn't even make it comfortable to use with 2 hands... Real shame!

Regardings LEDs... that last picture shows LEDs soldered, if I'm not mistaken. Is our board simply lacking some SMD parts which we could add ourselves, or what does "lacking LED support" mean here precisely?

I'm only asking since I'd have to tear this thing apart anyway if I want to go for ErgoClears.

(I could just go for a GON PCB though :/)

I believe using the DIP switches, you can swap the PN and FN buttons around. LED versions will be available, but not likely until first batch is sold.

FYI there can be an MX green version if I can get 60+ orders for it.

I'm not so sure. As long as the Fn key can be pressed with the left hand.

Something strange though, is that the PgUp/PgDn keys are on the horizontal and the Home/End keys are vertical to each other...
Why didn't they go with a numpad-like setup which more people are used to?

And BTW... German layout still has legends in English.

I was hoping it would have cherry profile caps at least. for me it's a poker2 with an awful 2nd layer positions and a low profile case... much room for improvement still :/

No innovation whatsoever.

There is some innovation.

But, I agree with you. For the most part, I might as well get a v60.

The metal case is a bonus but the lack of leds isn't that great.

Aren't the main upgrades for the Pok3r the metal case and the reprogrammable function layers?

Regardings LEDs... that last picture shows LEDs soldered, if I'm not mistaken. Is our board simply lacking some SMD parts which we could add ourselves, or what does "lacking LED support" mean here precisely?

I'm only asking since I'd have to tear this thing apart anyway if I want to go for ErgoClears.

(I could just go for a GON PCB though :/)
That's probably a shot of the board in the other pictures. The poker 2 was done the same; solder in the LCD holes even on the non-backlit version. Really annoying if you're a beginner with a soldering iron and just want to add the LEDs yourself... would be a simple job if they hadn't done that!

Are you sure the ISO-DE layout has QWERTY, not QWERTZ?

What is the reason for changing these two letters compared to the DE layout?

Just to clarify:

Is this fully reprogrammable out of the box? For instance can I progam a numpad on layer2/3?

German Layout is definitely QWERTZ, confirmed!  :thumb:

Edit: Also all of the symbols on the third layer of the number row are non standard but that might actually be done on purpose I guess.
For example swiveled brackets {} would usually be on 8 & 9 and square brackets [] would be on 5 & 6...

Everything else looks pretty standard to me tho!

The new placement of the arrow keys is the worst decision I think they could've made.

The fact that the FN position is also on the right doesn't even make it comfortable to use with 2 hands... Real shame!

I believe using the DIP switches, you can swap the PN and FN buttons around. LED versions will be available, but not likely until first batch is sold.

FYI there can be an MX green version if I can get 60+ orders for it.

You'd still have your left arm crossing your body though :/

Maybe it will also have a dip switch for alternative Fn options like the KBP V60.
V60 had many options to use for example caps lock as an Fn afaik!

If something like that is possible the arrow key position doesn't seem bad to me personally at all as you can comfortably use them right handed while staying on home row.

Are you sure? I've been using de layout my entire life and I've always had those brackets like in the picture. The only difference I can see are the y and z key. (I guess they just forgot to switch those for the picture.)

Whoops, I just double checked and your right Prollgurke it is the standard way!

Since I switched to ansi I've only been using Iso on my macbook, so this is what I was referencing too.
Haven't used Iso boards for a while so I totally forgot its the Macbook which is non standard in this case...

Is it possible to get blank keycaps in the first round too?
I doubt there will ever be keycaps in a  swiss layout, so I will have to stick with blank keycaps :(
If its not possible i will have to live with a DE layout ( clear switches )

I think you're right in that these models are different from the ones that actually will be sold.

At least, this video review by Rhinofeed shows a Pok3r with mounting holes for LEDs and pre-soldered resistors, but QWERTim confirmed that the released model won't allow for that.

I would like a UK Layout with MX Clears, too. I'm located in the United States, so I'm not sure how much the shipping would be. I've just checked the Corus Keyboards website and they charge $45 to ship it to the USA. They have no ISO layout keyboards in the US warehouse.

Massdrop has started a drop  with poker3  so i hope  the iso version will be ready next month too.
Are there any new informations?
about the price, when we can preorder the board when it will be shipped?

Is there a chance, that we can buy a carrying case and some blank (thick white pbt) keycaps with the board together, so that we europen ppl dont have to make multiple international orders?

Any news on backlit version in the future? Really want with LEDs, but if none will be released I'd like to pre-order non-backlit right away.

Hi Everyone

Unfortunately I'm not able to run this interest check for pre-orders anymore due to logistical issues that need solving first. Rest assured once this is fixed, we will be able to fulfill any orders received.

If you are still looking to purchase a Pok3r, I believe there is a site, which someone has already linked to, which should stock them when launched.

I'll try and keep everyone updated with Pok3r news!
