Leopold FC750R out now
« on: Fri, 28 March 2014, 07:02:28 »
Looks like they start to sell the FC750R today.
http://www.leopold.co.kr/?doc=cart/list.php&ca_id=10

Four switch types, black case with navy colored side printed thick PBT keycaps. I like the keyboard, but the side printed keys aren't my thing. Is there any information regarding other models? Is there a good source that ships worldwide to buy Leopold keyboards in general?

Are the side printed caps the only difference from the 700?

EDIT: Oh I see they added a "Sound absorbing pad"

I think the Keycaps are thicker than the 700's.

Edit: I just checked it. They are in fact thicker. It's 1,5mm vs. 1.3mm.

You can compare the datasheets here:

Is the spacebar standard?

Good question. My hangul sucks, but some reviewers on kbdmania are complaining about the spacebar for reasons unknown to me. I could not find any pictures with visible space bar stems yet.

Maybe someone could tell by it's sound?  ;)

I was in Korea a few days ago and saw one at a keyboard shop. They only had the sideprinted version, and from what I understand the top printed version is not out yet. I read that the spacebar is now, in fact, standard as well.

Yes, I just saw some customers asked these questions on the Leopold webside. Looks like there will be black and white versions coming in May (or later).

Standard spacebar would be great news.

If not, Hendyzone is sure to step up.

MechanicalKeyboards.Com should talk to Leopold to see if they can get permission to carry the products EK refuses to stock.

Might be a while. When I saw one it seemed pretty decent, I'm not sure I'd drop too much on it, to be honest, though. Maybe up to $150, tops, but even then I'd probably rather get something else. The caps were nice, I think I would still replace them, but for stock caps they were still pretty good. The build was solid, but comparable to other
notably solid TKL builds. I'm a pretty big fan of Leopold, but I'm also pretty cheap :P

They seem to go for the same price as their predecessor the 700r, so I think it could be realistic that if hendyzone gets them in they'd be the same price, which would be 125$ + shipping.

I guess I'm kind of cynical here, but I don't think he'll charge the same price to be honest. It's a newer board, and the demand is likely higher, so I'm sure people would be willing to pay more for it. Also, in Korea, you could haggle down the price of the 700R, while (to be fair, it wasn't on sale at the time) I doubt a store owner would be willing to haggle down to the same price for a 750R.

We'll have to wait and see. The 700R seems to have been removed from the Leopold website, so I think the 750R is more a replacement than an uppgrade. Maybe prices will stay somehow equal. But that's all speculation of course untill the Keyboard will be available outside of Korea. I hope it will have better availability than the 700R and since I'd only be interested in a top printed version I'll have plenty of time to watch the prices. ;)

I heard rumors that the OEM for the FC700R is continuing to manufacture them against Leopold of Koreas wishes.  No doubt one of the reasons for moving production from China back to Taiwan.

It is a shame this couldn't have been manufactured in Korea as it would have given it something else to differentiate it from the pack.

That's the question. I don't know myself, but if it was it would make that keyboard a really interesting choice.

It looks like a proper spacebar stem spacing but it's hard to tell since the comparison is the 700R spacebar...

It looks like the spacebar itself can take other spacings but it also has the 700 spacing as well which doesn't tell us what is on the board itself...

So I was going to check this, and I look around to see the keybaords nearby I have:
1.5 ergodoxes: no spacebar in the traditional sense.
1 lightsaver: 6 stem titanium spacebar won't help
1 skeldon: Aluminium spacebar 6 stems
I get up and go over to my KB pile where I have
1 Cherry TTY: 8x spacebar not gonna help anyone
4 model Ms in the process of bolt modding. 1 bolt modded IBM wheelwriter. 1 IBM selectric. Nothin' doin'
1 QFR: I have removed the spacebar and most of the keycaps for some unknown reason. Currently undergoing repairs / testing
AHA! then I see my trusty poker II. I pull the spacebar and see
poker II: 6 stem spacebar.
thanks for doing something right for a change, vortex.

Oh, but then I try the OTHER KB pile I have up here. What do I spy?
1 Cherry G80-8200: not OEM spacing anyway
1 Cherry "ricercar" MX SPOS: see above
3x Cherry G80-11800: 6x spacebar not even the right length.
1 kiibohd zenith tee mount alps, 2/3 of a model F 122-key, 1 IBM 4074-100 (50 key) and 1 IBM 4704-200 kishsaver: nothin'doin'again'

Downstairs I have a pile of IBM and hall effect (and another cherry: an old POS unit with 7x spacebar) so that won't help.

Guys, I think my only oem-spaced spacebar is on my WASD V1 at work that my coworker is using. I leave it up to someone else to verify the spacing on this one.

i think its standard
the 700R's spacebar stab in the middle's a little out of align with the standard bar where I checked mine to a universal.

not the best pic, but from top to bottom its Filco OEM, Tao Bao Universal, 700R

I recall that chart on kbdmania awhile back. The stem spacing comparing the spacebars between the 700 and 750 from the link Mooby provided actually looks like the inner stems of the 750 spacebar are similar to 200R spacing.

You'd be surprised if you look at early KBC spacebars from the first Poker PBT set to their Jelly POMs, they have 5 stems all of which fit on the 200R using the inner stems and the outer that fit the usual Filco, Ducky, etc.

Maybe that's the Korean way to do it. I don't know. But the stock keycaps look really good, so it might be a solid option if you don't plan to change the caps.
