triple posting aside, tp4 makes some good points. looking at the massdrop version, I'm not seeing a $400 keyboard. The korean version looked much higher quality. As far as I can see, there is no difference between R1 and massdrop version except for color options.

well there's the color options, and korean groupbuy also came with the option of having a metal tag with custom text on the back. also, could be my imagination, but I'm pretty sure the koreans had machined acrylic. It's little things, but it adds up when we're talking about this price point.
Most of all, there is no acrylic laser cut part in VE.A. (Why somebody thinks there's one? I have no idea.)
IMHO, this design compromises Ergonomics to preserve keycap compatibility..
If you're gonna go this far and get a $400 ERGONOMIC keyboard, but it isn't designed all the way for ergonomics.. What was the point ..Show Image(http://emoticoner.com/files/emoticons/onion-head/hehe-onion-head-emoticon.gif?1292862507)
The right hand side would work fine, because you can get your hands around it.
But notice the left hand side 1x qwerty-keys are staggered away from direction which fingers naturally curl.. (here we see the compromise, to preserve cap compatibility)
