Can't wait for this one:)
I wonder how would it look with numpad added to the right. Still no F-row. Could be cool. Second version for round 2 :)

Was it you who suggested it in the discord too? In any case, I'm very intrigued by the idea of a southpaw version, I will be working on it meanwhile  ;D

In other news, cases are sent for anodizing! They should be sent to us next week! :D
I'm both thrilled and nervous at the same time!

Just a little note, from time to time I'll be streaming over at Twitch, doing various design work and rendering, mostly related to the Eclipse :)

Come say hi whenever I'm online at https://www.twitch.tv/typelab :D

Prototypes are done anodizing and shipping to us :)
(Rose Gold had a slight defect so it's sent back for re-anodizing)

I will be building and testing the Dark Grey case:

I am very excited  :D

Proceeding with arranging for gasket production asap now, while we also wait for the PCB production.

Don't know, maybe it was me:)
By south, do you mean numpad on the left or just design example with numpad? Yours would look best with it on right, but we can leave this till round 2 :D

Pretty damn happy to see prototypes! I'll definitely be following this and if I don't hop on, I'll be telling a bunch of people about it. Would've loved to see the Arrow40 come to fruition though..

Yeah, Arrow40 is still something I'd love to do, especially in the same style as the new Eclipse!

The edges and the top edge especially seem a bit think. I'm guessing there's a design reason for it however?

he refers to this design choice in the discord:
"...I wanted to make room for screws, make it a little bit different looking from the top, and also to account for the perspective when you look at the keyboard from a typing angle. I'm using a uniform 60% now and the back side is almost hidden behind the caps. Extending it. it'll 'look' the same size from where you are sitting. Basically I just found it more interesting than having the sides uniform"

Mmm, since the goal of removing the top F keys is to gain a bit of wasted vertical space, I'd love to just keep chopping off as much of the edge as possible.

It feels like we lost the top row, but kept the space that is now a blank border with no keys.

We each have our own aesthetic. Personally i love a little chunkiness to my keeb and I have the desk space to accommodate. To me, each iteration from OP improves on the one before. But I totally understand that someone else might prefer a slimmer form factor to complement the efficient key layout. Since I apparently just slept through Adelie all my chips are on Eclipse. But this is the one I really prefer, so my wallet and my wife are both ok...

And I'm not sure that going FRL is only about space. To me the F row is simply redundant with a modifier only a pinkie away.

Hi!

Thank you for those who watched the stream!

And to make it clear, I did not build the Eclipse yet. Don't worry, you didn't miss that much.

The PCB and gaskets are not yet finished, so I only assembled it, put switches on the plate and keycaps on for cosmetic purpose only.

My immediate impression is that the case looks very good, the anodizing is flawless from what I could see and no big changes are needed. I will however have to test it with the PCB in place to see if another minor adjustment have to be made or not.

tl;dr
I'm super happy with it! :D

Ok, so I'm wondering if you're going to make a bunch of extra PCBs?

I feel like this is going to be a hot new layout and extra PCBs would allow for more boards using this layout and giving us more diversity. There's so little being done with this layout unfortunately, it would be great o see more cases using it.

Yes for sure. There will be extras :)
But we’re not using the default distance (if there even is one!) between the ‘main cluster’ and the ‘nav cluster’ so it’ll probably not fit other cases being made with this layout. But you will have the option to get additional PCBs!

HI everyone!!

The prototypes of the rose gold is very bright, and I am considering swapping it out with a new color. I'd love to know what you would want, alongside e-white and dark grey.

Rose gold prototype:

If you want to keep the rose gold you can vote for it too, but I would like to know what color of the Eclipse you would like to have!

Vote here:
https://forms.gle/LKtH366pAyN2idfS6

We will order samples and decide on the last color, while we wait for PCB finalization and gasket prototype production!

Thank you so much!

I really like the original lilac but voted for green. Almost opted to write in dark navy blue. I'll be excited to get this in any color, honestly.  :thumb:

I really like the original lilac but voted for green. Almost opted to write in dark navy blue. I'll be excited to get this in any color, honestly.  :thumb:

Yeah, I originally wanted a dark navy blue and I thought that was going to be one of their colors, but that dark gray they're doing is really nice

Everybody, thanks for your input! Received over 100 responses :D

I will be closing the form now, and we're deciding on what samples to order on Monday! Sometime next week we should have the samples in (David's) hand!

I hope as few people as possible will be disappointed by this decision :-[ but i think it'll add more value overall to the options in R1.

This keyboard's back edge is designed based on the philosophy brought upon us by Mos Def
"Ass so fat that you could see it from the front"

I'm more than a little interested to know about the 3rd 'mystery color'

Hello everyone!!

I have been reminded that it's been ages since I've posted in the geekhack thread. It's unforgivable.

I've been busy with life, but also slowly moving things ahead by trying to keep all threads together. I ordered color samples which I received last week.

I am really happy with looking at how anodized lilac and green looks like in person.

More

So I can hereby announce on geekhack (a week later) that the final colors (R1) will be:

Dark Grey, anodized
Lilac, anodized
Green, anodized
E-White

Currently we are waiting on PCB parts to arrive at mykeyboard.eu's PCB workshop, where they will assemble. They should arrive and be during done next week.
We are also waiting for samples of gaskets, including the rubber pads, they should be done and shipped next week.

Best case scenario: everything from here goes well: we will start the group buy mid November :)

Worst possible scenario: we will start the group buy late December/January

Thank you!  :)

Holy crap the anodized Lilac is such a beautiful colour for this case.

Probably going to fit really well when KAM Li'l Dragon drops too

I think this is a clear opportunity to try and go for a screw-less design. It definitely adds to the manufacturing costs, but it makes for a really clean bottom profile.

I think this is a clear opportunity to try and go for a quantum entanglement design. It definitely adds to the manufacturing costs, but it makes for a really clean bottom profile.
