Got back my hydro-dipped top case back from Morbidstix.com.

Before you ask:

* About $43, including shipping to and from them
* Just short of a fortnight from initial order, through sending in the case, to getting it back

The Tactile Pro boards' glossy cases are uniquely well-suited for this sort of treatment-- it has no texture that would ruin the "stone" effect of the finish.  I'd expect if you wanted to use a more convnentional plastic case, it might benefit from being sanded smooth first, or picking a texture that you wouldn't expect to be super-smooth and glossy.  They have a huge galaxy of other options.

Painted my PLU ML-87 :)

Sanded with 320 and then 600.
Several white primer coats, at least 5 coats.
And 4 blue metallic coats

White primer:

Completely painted:

I've put a Tai-Hao White on Black keyset, but still don't know which keyset would suit great with this color.
Keyboards: IBM SSK | Noppoo Choc Mini MX-Blue | PLU ML-87 MX-Brown | CM QFR Mx-Red | CM Novatouch

That is job well done!
I love painted case and I can see that hustle with multi layer coats really paid off  :thumb:

What about a black HHKB with white keycaps?

Thanks Rowdy! I might see how it looks without RGB and with keys from the Charred Orange & Dolch Color pack instead. I think the trick is to have either all dark legends or all dark keycaps, but not a mix of both (which I tried, doesn't really work i.m.o)

Dark and light can work - think of white keycaps with black modifiers.  Or vice verse.

Sometimes it doesn't work quite as well ...

Finally fixed up the bottom row on my Nerd60 last night after about 2 hours of swearing and burning myself. Added a NIB set of white on black Cherry alphas with my GMK Dolch mods and a Candy Corn. Alu case from Feng, stainless steel plate from Taobao and 62g clears that I built myself.

Bliss.

It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

TMK on a Model M? My brain is melting...

Do you know, would this work on a Unicomp?

I don't know difference between IBM M controller and Unicomp one. You can ask the question in this thread on DT, I think phosphorglow or someone there know :D

I'm actually amazed at how quickly people put their caps and snap pics all while I'm browsing gh or reddit at work.

Similarly to you I sold dss retro to someone at a good price and they put the caps on in time for a meet at elite keyboards. I think i shipped that set out the same time i sent yours out!

Very clean design!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I can relate to that. I become very impatient when I know a package is coming my way. The taking pictures part I'm just getting out of the way while it's fresh. The set is awesome  ;)

First tuned switch! Gateron black + clear top + 62g Spirit spring + Krytox 104 + black sticker. Sooooo excited to see how they feel on my Filco. The 62g springs have a great force curve, really tightens up towards the bottom, and the Gaterons are insanely smooth, even without the Krytox.

Just a demo switch to see how everything works together, I bent the top's front tab pretty savagely but I think I can be more delicate with the ones destined for my board.

Can't decide whether I should call them Ice Blacks or Tuxedo Blacks. But they're smooth and classy as hell.

People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.
