a while back i bought a KBT Race with white switches and i used it for a good 2 months but i stopped using it. It came with PBT caps that had lettering that easily faded off a bit after 2 months.

i had no plans on getting rid of it but i did take off the white switches and put them on my poker and then after that then my ergodox so my race was switch-less for months, it was in a box.

I found out a while back that although i got the non-backlit version of the RACE it still had the ability to be back-lit after tests. Just needed LEDs, I told myself that i would make it backlit sometime. Mechanical keyboards was selling the white back-lit key caps for pretty cheap and i grabbed those up

After acquiring some square white leds from ebay and some red switches from 7-bit i proceeded to build the RACE. The red switches were lubed and techkeys switch stickers added.

To add the LEDs i had to de-solder the little bit of solder they covered the holes with. after everything was soldered in and everything lit up i felt rewarded.

TL:DR - I added LEDs to a non-backlit RACE and made it backlit, also lubed reds.

You know other than the key caps the RACE is a pretty kick ass plate-less backlit keyboard, I like it in my collection, i may seek out an aluminium tray for it sometime when i my income is back to normal.

I see you saved your self time with the mod by not getting the round LED's. You do realize if u went rounded led's you had good 2-3 hrs of work shaving off the leds and the top mx covers but your switches would be moddable, now they are not. This wouldn't matter if your dead set on reds ofcourse.

I'm glad you posted that, I'm probably going to be doing an LED mod soon and that just saved me a lot of time and struggle.

Added the blue double shots from EK to my Leo. I think I need to get the entire set. It looks a little silly the way I have it now. The spot on the arrow is a problem with the camera.

Just swapped some caps around on my 2TU. POM strng key to replace FN and POM 1x1 windows keys. Repositioned the Friends and Family cap. It sticks out and helps me remember that's where I put my backspace.

Might just stick with the stock ~~red~~ black esc for all three boards, not entirely sure how these will look when I am done, but they are fun for right now!

EK really needs to make a full modifier set already, and I need a decent keycap puller, I destroyed two today swapping all these caps..

Nice boards. But try to get a keycappuller with that wire instead of that little plastic ones. They are more stable and dont scratch your keycaps

Added a PS2 cable to my Dolch keyboard to finally get it working!

Also a bit of CMYK for a bit of color. I'm not loving the beige on the Dolch, but I just wanted to see if it was working and to give blues another chance since my first try with them, I wasn't impressed.

I just remembered that this is my cheapest keyboard ever (minus the CMYK)! I paid $14 shipped for the Dolch board, got the PS2 cable off a old rubberdome keyboard and traded labor for the caps (for the most part)

Yea, flynn has been a bit slower than I would like getting me the final numbers/payment

Also, I'm really digging the layout and blues are starting to grow on me a bit. Maybe it was caps or the plate mount that I didn't like about the blues when I first tried them (Rosewill w/ stock caps).

I hear you there. I bought one of Zenuty's G80s w/ browns, but I would like to put greens and one of those plates (when we get them). I would imagine it's heavenly...

Look at hoggy's post here: Access Key Blockers
He suspects that SP makes them but so far nobody has been able to confirm. They are in black and white.

They require a switch to be in place to lock so the stem needs to be taken out or they are permanently activated.

Could also do this with Pimp My Keyboard flat keys. With windows 8 where the Windows key is used quite a bit this does the job while kinda looking like a winkeyless.

Also my dolch set isn't from originative so it came with a short right shift. I'd prefer not to use an SP moogle or have the green Cherry right shift by itself.
