Same issues here - Hoping it's not the first or last weekends of August as I'm running conventions those weekends.

Not sure why the old poll is still open but a new one will be started soon to figure out how many people plan on attending Keycon now that Chicago has been chosen.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

We should give a few date options for people to select attendance prospects for.  Maybe throw out every weekend in August?  Late July - early September?

That's a good idea, seeing as July is basically over I think Aug- early Sept is the best date range.

Do we have any details yet? It's already getting close to a month out which means its slowly becoming more and more difficult for people from out of town to make plans, buy plane tickets, and hotels.

No details yet that I've heard.  If we don't have anything in the next couple days I'll work to whip together basically a repeat of last year in terms of venue and such.

I don't know if that's decided.  JQ asked for a poll so he could make some plans, I haven't heard any news on that.  If it gets to the point where I just get us *something*, it'll be the weekend of Sept 16-18, as that's both the most responded weekend and furthest out.

Nice, in Chicago again! I'll definitely try to make it. Just won't be able to do it this weekend (12-14) or the next (19-21), but other-wise I think I could get my work schedule changed around.

edit:
I'm thinking of doing a little more than just a slideshow with music this time. Does anyone want to be part of the Keycon 2016 video? I could include a couple really short interviews (like 20-35 seconds each, really short) if anyone is interested. Basically just talking about what keyboard you brought, how it came to be, what parts you used... etc. That way the really interesting or unique boards can get highlighted more than just a few pics. If no one is interested, that's ok. I totally understand.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I haven't been around much.

Right now I've been trying to find a space we can use for free for Sept 16-18, it hasn't really panned out so I'm looking for cheaper places.

I'm going to talk with work about the possibility to use the downtown space (and I'll be promptly laughed at if I would guess), but if it helps the Palatine parks have their rooms starting at $17/hr and going up from there, depending on what we think we need. (Looking at Falcon Park Rec Center).
Other ideas might be just to grab a library meeting room - usually they allow for free / cheap rental of the space depending on the location and whatnot. http://www.chipublib.org/faqs/whic-cpl-locations-have-meeting-rooms/

I work at the CPL- specifically at Sulzer. I'm the guy on the top floor with the HHKB  If anyone here needs more information about renting out their space (a pretty great space if you ask me) let me know, I can try and help out. I think keeping the location in the city proper is best (more to do, less of a commute, etc). I would also recommend the northside in general because it's a good medium point between being in a nice area and not being too expensive like downtown usually is.

Yeah last year we did it in Skokie which seemed to work out well enough.  It would be nice to do it downtown but the issue is cost.  My work is in the Northbrook + Merch Mart there but it's a M-F thing so the idea of weekend is hard, but second as we are a badge access facility, so two big strikes that would have to be passed through prior to it being an option. the CPL would be perfect for the specific fact that they (usually) allow for free/cheap usage of the facilities.  We are still far enough out that it should be mostly possible to go that route.

The other option would be doing what we attempted last year and try to find a computer club of some kind at one of the colleges in the loop and try to get space from them, as they get a cool event and we get free space in prime locations.

I tried to get us space at DePaul last year but never made any headway, they keep their rooms locked down.

Roughly how many people and what is the budget for the venue?  I can't promise anything but can make some calls and check a couple places.

I was asked to update the poll to get some finer-grained detail on the most-responded weekend, Sept 16-18.

Let us know if you will *definitely* be able to attend that weekend!

Stellar food, arcades, hanging with cool peeps, delicious beer, and keyboards if you're into that.

Really considering attending this year, what are some highlights of past year events?

Stellar food, arcades, hanging with cool peeps, delicious beer, and keyboards if you're into that.

;)
If you are unfamiliar with KeyCon, check out KeyCon 2015 and previous events for reference.

Keyboards? Bleh.

Sounds like a good time. How many people attended? Are spouses welcome?

Typically anywhere between 30 and 40 people?  I might be mis-estimating that, though.  Maybe as high as 50?  People come and go so it's hard to judge.

Spouses always welcome!  :D  There will almost certainly be a few spouses there who can converse about regular people things while we nerd out over keyboards.  For the food and other activities, everyone is usually able to enjoy themselves regardless of keyboard fandom.  ;)

I'll be in the process of moving 9/16-9/18 so if there was a probably/maybe/I-effin-hope-so poll option, that's how I'd be voting.

For people going to keycon, would there be interest in joining a small groupbuy for flashcarts from krikzz.com to be distributed in person at the con? https://krikzz.com/store/ If we reach $800 in orders, 20% discount applied to everything and free shipping (mix and match, we don't have to order just 1 type of cart) https://krikzz.com/store/content/8-wholesale-orders

I'm based in the loop, and am going to attend if the keycon happens.
