GMK Sumi is a Set, inspired by the japanese ink painting art - sumi-e 墨絵

Hm, I thought about it for a bit but I still dont understand some of the prices. Like, in general I understand conversion, vat, import tax and maybe different vendors taking different cuts. But for example how does it happen that some kits are more expensive in $ compared to € pricing and other kits its the opposite?
In a similar vein: are the mats made in america? Or where does the 40% increase come from? (anyways, Im ordering 3 of them

, just genuinly curious)

Edit: i just noticed, candykeys actually has a couple different prices then listed here (hiragana is 66 and extension is 37, putting it more in line with the others i gues)

that is a poop load of mats. but not surprised. i have never purchased a mat from a group buy before. i usually don't even give them a second look. i had a custom mat cut to cover my entire desk. but this is the first time ever i actually considered buying a mat from any GB. but bonsai and ghost koi are hard to not pass.

Picked up the base, a couple mats and the RAMA Torii. First RAMA I've ordered, curious to see how it is.

One of many good sets with Japanese characters coming up between this, GMK Honor, JTK Night Sakura and GMK Hallyu. Very exciting.

I think the second copy of the escape key is R2 profile, and the others are very likely R4.

If I buy Koi then: Desk White -> Keyboard Black -> Mods White -> Alpha Dark.
To me I think it's more aesthetic than Ghost Koy: Desk Black -> Keyboard White -> Mods White -> Alpha Dark.
So now I will basically choose Koy over Ghost Koy.
The only thing that hinders my decision to buy this deskmat is about the quality of the deskmat. Is the print quality sharp? Is fabric quality good? And other things. Can anyone help me answer these questions?

I think deskmats quality depends on manufacturer. Like GMK Plastic is better than clone plastic. I believe in the quality deskmat distributed/produced by novelkeys, I just don't know who Sumi's deskmat is produced by.

I mean, worst case scenario is that you don't care for it and sell it for a profit anyways lol.

That may defeat the purpose of the GB style and make them not as sought-after or unique, but the mats are so well-designed they could be appreciated by people who just like the aesthetic.

Note that when it comes to the “purpose” of a GB, it’s usually less about creating a rare item and more about ensuring that a niche item has enough demand for a production run.

Those goals aren’t mutually exclusive, necessarily, as the belief something will be “limited” can drive demand. However, a designer shouldn’t make design decisions benefiting the secondary market at the expense of the primary market. If they do, they’re leaving money on the table.
