I like fashion. I buy nearly everything in TK Maxx or in sales though. Hunting for a bargain is half the fun of it.

Aside from that I live relatively frugally, bar the nights out where I go a bit mad buying drinks. Been trying to cut back on the alcohol intake lately not great for the health or frame of mind in the long run but felt good to blow off some steam after a couple of very stressful years.

My hobbies seem to fluctuate a lot. It drives my wife nuts, so generally it's whatever I'm into at the time. Ones that have stuck around (for the time being at least):

Boardgames. Love them, have a decent sized collection that I've spent probably way too much time and money on including kitting them out with custom pieces, boxes, inserts (Kingdom Death especially) and recently started getting back into painting minis and acquired airbrushing supplies and decent paints.

DJing. Started back in college in Atlanta when I found an old direct drive turntable in an apartment. Used to play a lot when I had a dedicated setup, but with kids and wife's office now out of the house, the turntables are relegated to a bookshelf most of the time. I have Traktor which I use for digital sets with the TTs and a midi controller. Been interested in getting a Traktor controller instead to play around with, but when do I have the time these days (plus wife would probably kill me if I started bring more expensive electronics into the house).

Books. Stephen King in particular, but other favorite authors as well like Tad Williams, Patrick Rothfuss, etc. I like to collect hardback first editions. Have a whole set of Dark Tower Grant published 1st's, some signed by King and most of them signed by their respective artists. My prized one is The Waste Lands, where Ned Dameron did a remarque in the book (fancy word for sketch) of Jake and Oy, which was then captioned and signed by King at a meet and greet.

Wet Shaving. This one has definitely calmed down in the acquisition area over the past couple years as I've settled down with the few razors/soaps/after shaves that I really like and focused on using them till I need to order more. But when I started I just had to try every razor and ever brush and every soap/AS I could get my hands on. Have since sold off most of it. I also have matched set of 3 EverReady brushes that I restored by hand from old handles that I found at antique stores/ebay with knots from The Golden Nib and Shavemac. Currently I rotate between my Gillette New Style Long Comb double edge, and a F.W. Engles Leader straight razor.

Video Games. Currently own PS4, PS3, PSVita, Switch, WiiU, two 3DS's, SNES, and too many games to play with what little time I have. At least my PC is so old that I don't bother wasting any money on the Steam sales.

True. I guess the expensive version goes by another name entirely. Patrons, at least here in the US, do tend to refer to themselves as "hobbyists" though.

How do I know this? Well, that shall remain unanswered except perhaps to paraphrase Winston Churchill; in relation to those who place a high value on their own "purity"- they have all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire.

Drinking is pretty expensive if you have any sort of pallet at all. What really sucks about drinking as a hobby is you are literally pissing your money away.

Still, you'll get no argument from me that a $100 12 year single malt is infinitely better than a bottle of Cutty Sark no matter how much money you save on the latter.

Currently Travel and Warhammer 40K. Travel I'm always saving up for but WH I have now started dipping into my kb budget and prioroitising armies vs customs.

It's a bit of a lose lose battle really as they are both require you to go deep into funds, whereas travel I can justify to myself and others, spending 3-4 times as much on something that will last a very limited time

Yeah, a noticeable amount of my money also goes there. Although I only drink the stuff that's spelt without an "e".

Also starting to take a liking to cognac though. It's a bit easier-going than my usual Islays but still nice from time to time.

Photography. Though I have most of the lenses and accessories I want nowadays, so not really any spending recently (except a Laowa 60mm 2:1 macro lens--good stuff). Same camera body for a long time now though, so looking into upgrading eventually.

Fountain pen stuffs: too many inks, a whole lot of pens, more paper/journals than I reasonably need. Thankfully that too has tapered off, and I'm working on selling off things I don't use.

I suppose it's not really hobby, but pets. Emergency vets can be stupid expensive. $2000 or so last fall for one such incident, $600 just a month ago. I almost started selling various gear to recoup the losses.

I'm eyeing a new 35mm f1.2 for my fuji... Getting my fuji has opened so many doors for adapted glass that it's a bit of a hazards since there are a lot of cheap russian lenses on ebay.

Agh. I should have specified, Rokinon 35m f1.2. It's slightly cheaper than the mikaton, but that fast aperture is kind of tempting... I'm slowly getting some more manual glass. But I first have to learn how to use my rokinon 21mm f1.4 for astro. I set focus to infinity this week to shoot the milkyway, but it was still a bit fuzzy. I gotta go back out to try again but bugs don't really make it easy to just sit and mess with your camera.

I've never really used split screen, but I'm more partial to focus peaking. It's pretty OP sometimes lol

The Mitakon lens is very solid though: small, dense, beautiful color, lots of character and apparent volume to the subjects (vs that flat over-corrected look). You can find good used copies for around $400-450 time to time.
