How exciting! Here we have another new switch from BSUN! This is the Sakura switch designed by Keyfully Studio. The baseline concept behind the design of the project was to create a switch that is cute, thocky, and great for daily typing. Let's get into the details to see if they achieved these goals.

The BSUN Sakura Switch

Materials:
The materials used on Sakura switches are our old friends. LY and POK have become more and more popular during the past year, and they have been tested by the market to be two of the most suitable materials used in switch manufacturing. Why LY and POK though? As stated in the introduction, the designer was aiming for a thocky and deeper-sounding switch. If you are familiar with the BSUN flower shadow switches, you will notice that they have a thocky bottom-out sound even though they have a crazy long pole. That is the result of having a LY stem and a LY bottom housing working together. The LY material is basically modified POM with a few extra excipients added to make them smoother and more thocky. Then you would guess what will happen when both the stem and bottom housing are made of LY.

By having a thocky bottom-out alone is not enough for making the switch thocky and deep enough because the top-out sound also plays an important part in a switch's sound spectrum. I have had switches that have a thocky bottom-out with a clacky top out which would make them sound quite strange. To avoid that, the designer chose POK as the top housing material for Sakura switches. If you are familiar with BSUN X switches, you will definitely bare the impression of how a POK housing drastically affects the sound of a switch. Overall speaking, POK reduces a switch's volume and pitch to make it sound quieter. With a POK top housing, Sakura switch's top-out sound is more subtle when compared to its bottom-out sound.

The result of having such a material composition is that the Sakura switch has a thocky bottom-out and a quieter and deeper top-out sound. In contrast, the bottom-out sound is going to be more obvious than the top-out sound so the switch would not be too noisy overall. You wouldn't need to worry about getting tired of their annoying sound over time as it is going to be pleasant to work with.

Switch Design:

To make these a great switch for daily typing duty, Keyfully did not choose to go with a heavier spring. The current spring has a 37g operating force and a 42g bottom-out force. Since the spring itself is 22mm extended single stage, I expect it would feel a bit heavier than the spec states. The advantage of having such a spring is that they won't tire your fingers after a long time of typing, while the length ensures a responsive recoil. People ignore the importance of fast recoil sometimes but a dull recoil could potentially make typing more tiring as your fingers constantly reach out to the keys.

As result, Sakura switches are a pretty nice choice to go with if you are looking for a daily driver but don't want something that is too dull. BSUN's LY stem and LY housing overall create a vibrant thocky sound while the spring offers you a fun and pleasant typing experience.

Anyways, going to be nice to try, although the springs are super light for me, but that's a easy fix with new springs :)
Always great to see switches go straight instock, hopefully they will be a hit!
