[IC] FRL84 | Budget-Friendly, Stacked Acrylic, 65+Numpad
« on: Mon, 25 July 2022, 20:49:30 »
Hey Geekhack,

I've been looking for a 65+Numpad layout for a while. Not a fan of redundant F-keys on a 96%, and I prefer the compact layout of a 65+N over an FRL-1800.
The goal is an approachable keyboard you're excited to use that doesn’t have less functionality for number-crunchers than a K95.

More Images

65 + Numpad with multi-layout support
ANSI with Tsangan bottom row, stepped caps, and split-backspace support. PCB designed by Studio Kestra.

Hotswap Only, VIA Compatible
Maximize accessibility and customizability, reduce barriers to entry. Sorry solderers.

Alu Plate
More options may become available, see IC Form.

Addressable underglow LEDs
Why not.

Stacked-Acrylic Assembly
Inexpensive, satisfying DIY assembly process.

Gasket-Mount
Again, it's 2022, why not.

Multiple colour/finish options
TBD, see IC Form to express interest and request options.

Unified daughterboard, variable port position
One of the many benefits of the stacked-acrylic assembly: want to move the USB port to the other side? Flip some layers over and move the daughterboard.
Center-aligned JST connector and cable can reach either side.

Pricing
Target price is $175USD.
MOQ is 25, cap is 100 probably (max amount of boxes I can ship out of my basement apartment).

IC Form
Please fill out the IC form if this project interests you at all. At this point I am definitely open to feedback or suggestions of any kind.

~Mike

Cheap to manufacture, cheap to prototype.
As far as I know this layout doesn't exist yet, the closest being FRL1800 which typically starts around double the price.

feel like this has been dead for a while but i really like this layout and stacked acrylic (frosted!) it's more affordable than any other option in this layout i've found so far, don't know why you wouldn't make it iso compatible from the get go tho :(
