Love the theme and colors of this set. I don't think you have to go crazy with novelties, even just a couple artisans such as the translucent cap (green to represent the screen) or an artisan, like Rama's wave cap to represent the ridges on the back would be fun  ;D

Would love to see some text modifier, such as 'select' and 'start' along with the the magenta color arrow keys.

This is completely extra, but I love the IC picture based off the original box and would think it would be neat to have a deskpad with that kind of design or aesthetic.

I'd actually like to see an optional arrows pack the same color as the Gameboy's d-pad.

That's what I was thinking too. And maybe some Select and Start novelties too

Haha I mentioned those when the IC was first posted and don't know if it was seen. Hopefully since more people seem interested, there might be some of those included.  :thumb:

TKC is currently getting quotes from GMK for the kits (including a novelty kit). We're also looking to keep the price down so you'll probably see some changes in the base kit. I want to please as many people as possible but if the kit is too big and expensive to hit MOQ then everyone loses. It's a tightrope act. Stay tuned.

Oh, and we're hoping to run the GB within two months from now.  :thumb:

Seconding icon mods.

Aren't the A-B buttons on the gameboy red? The magenta really throws me off the theme although it probably does look better than red would.

The colours will be matched to a Gameboy that I'm gonna send to GMK. I don't think there's any way to get a better match than that. But yes, as nasp said, the buttons are magenta, not red.

On another note, we're hoping to have a big update very soon - with renders and maybe some price estimates - probably after this weekend. In terms of set changes it looks like it'll just be very minor changes to the base kit, just subtle design decisions and corrections.

There will be an MOQ of 250 for this set, due to the custom colours, so please do spread the word if you want to make this a reality.

I’d love an epbt by changing the white font to purple on the pink keys. Pbt and no shine but captures the full look. Amazing.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but caps lock "select" and enter "start" novelties would be fitting.

Love this idea, or anything else that would been ambiguous enough for the use of function where caps lock usually is.

Not trying to critical... just had an observation when I was thinking about how I would use the set.  I was thinking about how I would use it on an ortho keyboard, like the Planck or Preonic.  I occurs to me that, if you use the esc and return keys with the magenta font, then this would look good with the raise key also with the magenta font, but, if you use the magenta esc and return with the white font, then all of the gray keys will have the blue font, except the raise key, which would be the single key with the magenta font.  The first layout seems like it would look good, but the second one seems like it would look odd, with only one key with a magenta font sitting there unbalance.

Anyway, like I said, I just tried to visualize it, and it didn't really seem right, if you used the accent keys, which I like.  Just my opinion, for what it's worth.  Also, if you were doing a Preonic build and wanted to have a caps lock and second shift, there wouldn't be dedicated keys for that, but I realize it's pretty common to use other keys, like meta or code for such things.

I got a really nice condition box-fresh-lookin' Gameboy on ebay and it arrived today. This is the Gameboy GMK will try to match the cap colours to.

Renders are in progress, the kit has seen a few changes now. Big update very soon and group buy shouldn't be too far off (my guess is November, but possibly earlier).  And sorry if you've commented and I haven't addressed it specifically, but I am reading everything and taking everything into consideration. Peace.

I personally like the look of the lighter mod color in the renders. It seems like the color you’re matching to the gameboy will be significantly darker. Is that a fair assumption?

I also prefer the lighter mod color, it definitely blends in better with the set. It'd be understandable however if you decide to choose a darker color to best match the Gameboy.

Is there any cost to be saved by having only some of the colours be custom? Might as well go for max accuracy if GMK have the actual Gameboy to sample from.

All the colours will be custom. I only put the GMK stock colour samples in those pics so everyone could get a reference based on existing sets, regardless of monitor calibration. Regarding the modifier grey, I want to match the Gameboy as much as possible, but the screen surround is very shiny and often appears lighter than it does in those pics. I also feel like the legends could get lost if the grey is too dark. There will be samples so I'll judge it as best I can and find the happy balance of fidelity and legibility.

I don't have Gameboy nostalgia, but I like the colour scheme. Dark purple legends on white background is a classic also on computers keyboards (e.g. Wyse, Sun), as is an accent colour on the Return key.

I don't see why the Insert, Home and PgUp keys need to have a different text colour though. Personally I prefer that the Return/Enter key should be named "Return" but I don't understand why the numpad-Enter should also be "Return".

BTW, I think it a missed opportunity to not name the Windows key "Start" (the "Start menu"!) and the Menu key "Select".  (Although, "Select" has a different meaning on vintage terminal keyboards, not many people remember it)

Thanks for the feedback. The nav cluster colour is inspired by the two stripes on the screen border of the Gameboy.

I had designed Start and Select novelties among others but the kit I designed would have been unfeasibly large. There will be a novelty included with the final base kit (soon to be revealed). TKC will be working with other makers to produce some more Gameboy inspired keys available separately after the GB.
