Squeeky stabilizer noise
« on: Sun, 20 December 2020, 10:02:14 »
I'm getting high pitched squeeky noise from (lubed) stabilizers.
It doesn't come from the switch (not spring ping) and is heard on all my stabs, spacebar, backspace and (ISO) enter.
noise doesn't come from bottoming out, but from initial contact.

My best guess is that it's the wire hitting the stab housing, but I have generously added more lube and the noise remains.
It is proving hard to reproduce the sound without the cap attached.

Any ideas?
I didn't  want to keep adding lube and overdo it on a soldered board.

Setup:
lubed & filmed Gateron yellows.
GMK screw-in stabs, lubed with Krytox 205g0.
winmix 9009 SA caps.
kbdv2 case and alu plate.

Maybe PTFE lube from superlube could fix it since its thicker then krytox. You usually don't use switch lube for stabilizers.

Thin lube on stabs is fine for plastic to plastic contact but not good for metal to plastic, this is where you need to use thick grease. Many use Superlube Dielectric grease for this. my guess is the squeak is in the pivot, not the blocks.

Also make sure your stabs are not rubbing the plate or anything else and beware when tightening screws that they don't shift and bind.

Thanks for your suggestion, I will try with some multi-purpose PTFE grease from superlube.
(Hope they don't interact in some unexpected way).

I had heard of people simply switching to krytox 205g0 for their stabs also.
But for me that does not quite do the trick.

Unfortunately this did not solve the issue.
I've added a considerable amount of super lube synthetic PTFE grease in both stabilizers of the spacebar, but no improvement.

I don't think it is in the pivot point, more likely the wire in the main stab housing.
Might have to desolder and switch stabs, but gmk screw-ins should be able tho

Then you probably have Retooled GMK stabs. They are notorious for being bad after being retooled. Replace them with V2 Durock stabs they are much nicer, but don't buy the V1 versions they are a hit or miss.
