Need help picking a keyboard
« on: Sat, 25 August 2012, 12:07:56 »
In need of a new keyboard so i would appreciate suggestions.

Can only order from amazon.
Don't want tenkeyless.
Surface coating doesn't matter to me.
Will be using it for about 50% gaming 50 typing.  I've tried out mx blues and they feel good, don't know if that would be the right choice.

Maximum is $140, less than that would be ideal.

Since you've tried Blues and like them, I recommend just going with those.  There's a good price on this DAS keyboard.

Rosewill is another option that fits your price.

Even Razer Blackwidows do, tho I don't recommend them.

Filco's are just over your budget, but they are definitely good boards.

I've heard really bad things about rosewill's USB cables. I don't know if they are true or not.

How does rosewill stack up to das?

Rosewills get recommended much more often here than the DAS. I think mainly because it's cheaper and always goes on sale on newegg. The main thing I hear round here is the Logo looks horrendous on the Rosewills and for DAS it's that shiny shiny surface that gets scratched by literally everything.

Given the same price ( because you must use amazon), I'd get the DAS, it even has the extra USB ports on the side, which may/may not be handy for you. Tho I'm just pointing out that Rosewill is an option.

I've also been looking at the xarmor keyboard. But i don't know how it stacks up to das.

The only thing that i don't like about the das is the USB ports on the right side of the keyboard and maybe the lack of media keys.

Its getting a bit too specific for me to comment, but I don't think I've ever heard one person comment about a xarmor keyboard here and have no experience with one personally. Going with just plain reputation in my books, the DAS is miles ahead.

If media keys are important, the BlackWidow might actually be a board you want to consider. It's got a function layer with media keys, tho you'll have to live with a slightly larger keyboard case and some macro keys.

You made a wise choice. And I like the shiny surface. To each his/her own... :)

With cherry keyswitches imported from Germany.

Let's face it: It's a global product.

OP: Tell us how you like the keyboard when it comes in!

I think the "most American" keyboards in production nowadays have to be the Unicomp units.

Ducky 1087XM Green | Unicomp Ultra Classic Black | IBM M4 | 1989 IBM Model M | Genius i200 | Cherry G84-4100 | Microsoft Arc Keyboard
