With the new custom order thing that SP has, I'd like a reverse (WFK on RDD) base kit to go with either of my two RA2.0 mod sets. Even with only 9 other people, the price seems ok to me, but the reason I'm doing this is to see how many other people would like it, too.
So yeah, put your interest here and how much you'd like to spend.
Here's pricing - http://keycapsdirect.com/customized.php

thumbs up! order early and often folks! :)
-
I think the red was RBV or something. You'll have to ask Ragnorock to be sure. Is this just for the base set with no mods?
Anyway, I'm in for one. :D
-
i would potentially be in for a full set since i didnt get modifiers but i know that would effectively double the price so i'll just say GL for now :)
-
If there's enough interest in doing one or two of the mods, too, I have no problem essentially organizing RA3.0...
-
Hell, if this works, I'll even do the same thing with CCnG.
-
They really need a better/deeper purple color.
Purple and yellow or blue and orange
-
if you do please come up with a new name, it's confusing enough because the 'real' red alert is technically called red alert 2.0.
and do you mean doing red on white as well? i think a full-out white on red (no mod variation) would be really cool for some boards :)

Maybe 1 - 2 runs down the road for me. Perhaps someone else can start this?

My original thought was to do a white on red input (base) kit to go with the RA2.0 white on red mods.
But then, I thought it'd also be cool to see a white on red base with red on white mods. I also read your comment as saying you didn't have the white on red mods.
I should make a googleform to ease confusion, maybe...

There could be a lot of interest in this.
-
i dont have anything red alert at all :) i was just thinking of a full white on red set.
-
Maybe I should just do a full on RA2.0 reorder and just add the mirror image input set.
-
What happened to the OAS on GE set??? I thought that was gonna be the next set to roll out, I was looking forward to that..

That GB should be going up in the next week or so if I remember my PM to the organizer of that correctly.
I honestly don't expect to have this set in hand until 2013.
-
I've been wanting to run a white-on-red spherical buy for a while now- this will certainly make things easier.
-
Added a googleform to track people and what they specifically want. The few that have already expressed interest don't need to fill form as I just defaulted you to a white on red base kit (and white on red mod for sth)
-
I'm curious about the sphericals as well. I ordered a spherical set from round 4, might be worth seeing how people react to those when they get them before organizing a group buy for sphericals.
I'd totally love a white on red, but sadly I don't use Qwerty so I hate the legends. :(
-
I'm hoping RA3.0 would be with Cherry font, good luck with this though, I'm sure you'll get enough interest. If I wasn't selling almost all my stuff to pay for having teeth removed I'd be in.

Depending on how speedy info comes in and if the people care to, it just may have cherry font.
-
Soooo, I just realized I messed up with my googledoc. I forgot to put a spot for people to put their screennames in.
So I edited and cleared doc. I also added tsangan kits now that they're easily available. The ones that have already filled the document will obviously need to redo it quick for me. Apologies for the mess up.

Just a note that (as of now at least) this new SP order form and price breakdown only applies to their standard font.
-
Another shade of red (maybe wine red): yes
RA3: no thanks
-
Only other red they have is RR.
-
Google Form filled!
The timing of this is just fantastic! I missed the GB/didnt have the money for Red Alert and was biting my own ass for it.
Btw, did someone ask if the original red (iirc RBV) could be available for this? I wouldnt mind the sets having RDD as it will look fine, too. But it might be worth a try, since "Other color combinations may be possible - check with sales to find out if your desired color is in inventory".
No matter if it's gonna be RBV or RDD, I'd take 2 basekits, 1 modkit and a 17-key-kit, all red on white.
Hell, if this works, I'll even do the same thing with CCnG.
There could be a lot of interest in this.
You guys are killing me/my wallet. Thank God there's not the right colors available to do this, yet.
-
Would be very interested in a RA white on red set + appropriate modifiers!
-
WOW, +1 for SP making things a lot easier.
-
They really need a better/deeper purple color.
Purple and yellow or blue and orange
At that point you need green and yellow as well! You're in WISCONSIN for Pete's sake!

If you haven't, fill out the google doc!
I'm at my parents, so I haven't been able to check much of anything today.
-
As of today, numbers are as such: (WoR - White on Red. RoW - Red on White)
WoR base - 7
RoW base - 9 (this caught me a bit by surprise)
WoR mod - 3
RoW mod - 2
WoR 17key - 2
RoW 17key - 2
WoR Tsangan - 2
RoW Tsangan - 1
We also have a name suggestion of Klaxon, which I kinda dig. It ties nicely with the RA2.0 stuff from before while limiting confusion.
The numbers themselves are (to me) quite promising in general considering this has been up for a hair over 24 hours. My preference would be to move this to a GB status when I have 20 sets of any 2 of the options. Of course, input from veteran GB runners is always valued.
-
Get the group buy started!
In for one red one white base kit and red on grey modifiers :)
-
I think the red was RBV or something. You'll have to ask Ragnorock to be sure. Is this just for the base set with no mods?
Anyway, I'm in for one. :D
This is correct. The red will not match RA 2.0 sets. The white, however, will. (WFK)

I would say, then, that we still do this, call it Klaxon or whatever to make it clear it won't be a perfect fit with the red alert stuff and go on. But do we keep it red/white or go with a different color (IE: RDD/GE or GX or GA) since it won't matter as much?

Great idea to make the difference to Red Alert sets clear by the name. But if you ask me, we should keep to the red/white color scheme, because we already have some interest in this (and, to be honest, because I would love this set so much!!^^).
Maybe other color combinations should get their own IC/GB because with the new ordering method at SP, hitting an affordable price tier should be possible. But thats just my 2 cents.
-
You can contact Melissa at Signature Plastics to ask about pricing for the WFK/RBV combo. Her email is sales@solutionsinplastic.com. I wouldn't go with RDD just because they say those are in stock.

If keeping the color pattern the same is fine with everyone, I have no issue with keeping red/white.

Melissa has been emailed and I await her response. I'll fill in once I get contact back. If we can get the exact red, we'll go with that, if not, I still want to do something to try the new system.

From Melissa:
TG-
You can order colors that are not listed on the website still online, just list the color you wish to order in the correct location. In regards to RBV, we do not currently have any in inventory, however we have an almost identical match, RDD, in stock (this has been used in exchange for RBV in some cases). I would recommend using the RDD for new orders at this point.
Thanks!

So it sounds like it doesn't really matter too much. I'm going to run this as RDD/WFK once I get a handful more people on the form.
-
Can you post the link to the results please?
-
I guess. Geez.

I don't mean to be a pushover? Lol

You know, considering that the reds will be slightly different, I think I'm just going to help with a group buy (I'm assuming I can't do this all on my own, that is) for white on red and red on white for everything. The demand seems to be near equal anyways and it won't be too much more effort on my end. A few more fill out the form and I'll feel safe making a group buy thread.
OH! Also, what program/file do I need to be able to make my own color mock up pictures?
-
Yayy.. I'm in for Red on White Base Kit, White on Red Modifier Kit.
Black and Grey would be a great combination too. ^^
-
I guess someone thinks it's a horrible idea. So horrible that he took the time to click my link and check no to everything, type no in the name column and write no for his name. That's cool though, there are enough others that like the idea.
Almost as much as I love this SSK, gotdamn it's nice.

Fixed. ;D
-
Are you going to use the standard SP legends or the WYSE ones like in the original Red Alert?
-
I think the new group buy stuff that SP does is only for their own font.
-
completed the form! I'm in for a red on white!
is it going to occur?
-
Filled out for a Red on White set.
-
completed the form! I'm in for a red on white!

Absolutely. At this point with the amount of interest I've received in such a short amount of time, all I'm waiting for is to know if I'm running this solo or if one of the more experienced group buy organizers are going to handle the money and ordering side of things.
Current count:
WoR base: 10
RoW base: 13
WoR mod: 11
RoW mod: 5
WoR 17 key: 6
RoW 17 key: 8
WoR tsangan: 6
RoW tsangan: 4
If any vet wants to volunteer, I'm open for the help. If they just want to offer insight and tips and let me run with it, that's fine, too. I'll also leave things to a vote here as well.
-
Just a question, is it a problem if I live in Belgium (Europe).
thanks for that IC (and hopefully GB ^^)
-
Shouldn't be a huge problem at all. I've had good luck with getting international orders taken care of but obviously your shipping costs will be higher unless we get a Euro proxy involved.
-
KLAX-on...KLAX-off...
-
Seeing how people willing to pay $80 for a RA 2.0 base set. I think we definitely need to have this group buy ASAP. I'm all in for 1 base set + 1 modifier set. I will have to consider how reasonable the shipping cost is. Might as well ask my bro to pick it up and ship it back to me.
-
This IC isn't even up for a week now, and there are already 14 red on white base sets. This is awesome! But considering how the Second-chance Tsangan kits were going, I think it schould maybe stay open for a bit longer to maybe reach the next price tier(s). (I'd rather like to pay $55 for a base kit than $70^^)
I also think we could maybe gather more interest if this would be posted in other forums, too. Ofc that is up to the one doing the group buy, because that will most certainly complicate the whole thing. But for the Tsangan kits, having someone collecting orders from another forum nearly doubled the orders.
-
Submitted the fancy form to register my interest in the white on red base, mod, and tsangsan sets.
-
I'm not expecting quite double, but I suspect I'll get more people willing to pay money once this shifts from IC to GB.
-
I forgot to mention that I'm also in for a WoR mod! (as opposed to the RoW set I'ld like to have)
Just a newbie question, and I'm sorry if I'm off topic, but what is a tsangsan set? I'm not all that good with all those terms and google is really not my friend today ^^ can someone help me with that?
also, I have a korean keyboard (key cool) does that make any differences for the mod set? I've eared that some have different sizes, is it true?
thanks a lot ^^
-
Noted for both.
Tsangan kit is different sized mod and space bars for Korean (typically) keyboards. Someone with more experience can correct or add to that as they will.
I think the keycool is standard, but again I'm not sure as I've not even looked into purchasing one. It is true that there are different sizes for things like spacebars, mods like your ctrl/alt/winkey/shift and the like.
I think that takes decent care of your questions, and again thanks for another reason to bump an IC of mine plus type more on this new board I'm on the fence about.
-
Yeah, Keycool appears to have normal sized mods to me. On the Noppoo Choc Mini for example, the right shift is 1.50, which means it's the same size as the tab and \ keys.
-
Thanks for your answers! So tsans' sets include the same keys as the modifiers' one.
I'll check when i come back home from school.

This lady, always helping me out.

Yes, but in different sizes.
-
tsangan sets also include function keys and the short right shift you would need for the Keycool unfortunately. The real issue with the Keycool is trying to find 1x ctrl, and alt for the right side.
-
Looks as though only some Keycools have short right shift keys.. I believe this top image is the one we're talking about, as it's the same as the keyboard that is in the classifieds. .

I thought we were talking about the Keycool 84 because you had mentioned the Noppoo Choc Mini. Sorry about that. I also have Keycool 84s on the mind because I just ordered one. :(
Oh I also filled out the form like a day ago. Would love a Red on White set.
-
I have a keycool 87 what about it? do I need a tsangan set or not? I'm a bit lost because I can't compare with anything else
-

I don't think so. The Keycool 87 seems pretty standard to me.
-
Ok thanks a lot! :D
So please count me in for a set and modifiers :D no Tsangan needed :)
Also : is there a minimum number of person needed to make it into a GB? if so, how much are we still needing?
-
10 is the minimum, but considering the cost drops significantly by adding 10 more people, I want to try and get a guaranteed 20 before I shift to GB. Considering no one has said anything to the contrary, I think I'll be running the whole shebang myself.
-
Alrighty, guys and gals, we've got enough interest I'm shifting this to group buy territory!
Here's the new link to follow(not mod approved yet) - http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=37225.0
All that have already expressed interest need not worry about having to do it again.
