[IC] Moogle Kit R4 GB (ON HOLD)
« on: Mon, 26 November 2012, 15:43:16 »
UPDATE:

im putting this GB on hold until we get more info on GMC for production. im sure everyone would be much more happy to wait a few extra months in the chance of getting official cherry stuff and i dont want to go forward until we know more.

thanks for all the interest guys.

please refer to this thread:

http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=37786.0

starting off with a quick and simple IC. If it gets enough traction can work out details later on.
(will most likely need someone to handle shipping state side as im in Australia)

going to let this run for a few weeks and see where it goes.

(Edited) base kit only at this point

2 Control (1.25x)
2 Alt (1.25x)
2 Win (1.25x)
1 Menu (1.25x)
1 left Shift (2.25x)
1 right Shift (2.75x)
1 Spacebar (6.25x)
2 Caps Lock (stepped, center stemmed)

UPDATED PRICE LIST:

25 sets          $38.38 / set
50 sets          $27.03 / set
75 sets          $23.24 / set
100 sets        $21.35 / set
150 sets        $19.46 / set
200 sets        $18.51 / set
250 sets        $17.95 / set

please dont fill out the IC unless you are serious and can go ahead quickly... if we get the numbers i want to get it to ordering ASAP so please only fill out the IC if you are able to go ahead if it goes to ordering.

thanks.

I will most likely be able to distribute in the UK if you need anyone. That all depends on how many people in the UK order.

Honestly you should just do all the moogles. Dolch, Beige/White, and white on black. I would buy at least one of each, if not 2-3+ of others.

I imagine you want to do this "quick" since you just got a Dolch set, but if you want to hit reasonable numbers you should probably run it for a month or two.

hmm ok its worth considering if this gets enough interest i'll change the form. i really dont want to over complicate things though or have it run for ages.

If something is worth doing, it is worth doing right. Just give it a month or two, especially around the American holidays when people normally have less money for a selfish keyboard hobby because they are buying things for others :p

I was also thinking that, but in terms of postage. We're getting to the point where the system is getting clogged with christmas post, so even if you did it quickly, postage from Australia to the US is going to take an awful long time anyway.

like more keyboard stuff for their others? heh.

you guys might be right but lets just see what happens. if after a day or 2 this goes stale will think about making it more long term. this is basically an idea hatched from my WTB thread for a moogle, and seeing a ton of other moogle WTB specifically for this set to try and fill the demand reasonably quickly.

can always do a bigger one later on.

Yeah definitely would love to see WYSE moogle. Would be in for at least one, probably two.

And I love the idea of both center-stemmed and off-center stemmed stepped Caps Locks. I'd probably go for one of each.

from what SP have told me for individual caps that need to be cast the minimum order has to be $100.

also added an option for a DT username as im going to post over there as i've had some pms from people there.

with the amount of interest from DTers as well and its only been up a few hours i doubt we are going to have any issues reaching at least the 25 mark for each.

I'd like the Control instead of Caps Lock but I don't want one of the regular 1.25x Control mods to say Caps Lock. I just want the full touch Control.

any help would be greatly appreciated in color choice.

what do you guys think about having 2 different color spacebars for each kit (if its not super extra) and also perhaps a 7 unit?

i've sent off a list of things to SP to get some quotes on kits containing:

possible base kit 1:

2 Control (1.25x)
2 Alt (1.25x)
2 Win (1.25x)
1 Menu (1.25x)
1 left Shift (2.25x)
1 right Shift (2.75x)
1 Spacebar (6.25x)
2 Caps Lock (stepped, center stemmed)

possible base kit 2:
2 Control (1.25x)
2 Alt (1.25x)
2 Win (1.25x)
1 Menu (1.25x)
1 left Shift (2.25x)
1 right Shift (2.75x)
2 Spacebar (6.25x) (different colors)
1 Spacebar (7x)
3 Caps Lock (stepped, center stemmed, full touch)

with the amount of interest from DTers as well and its only been up a few hours i doubt we are going to have any issues reaching at least the 25 mark for each.
Now take orders until early to mid January and I'm sure you will reach 50+ on all colors. Going to try and get some Korean forums involved too? May be able to break 75+

please remember this is still just an IC.

if i get enough interest in the next few weeks i'll turn it into a proper order thread and we can let it run until early January to drum up interest across all forums to get the best priced tier. if it gets to that point i'm sure the koreans on here will get involved (CYG im looking at you :P )

feel free to add more suggestions, pm me if you like with specifics and i'll see about getting quotes for stuff in a whole set.

its still growing at this point it started out as a dolch only lol not to bad for a few hours.

give it a week and i reckon we will have enough interest. (already nearly at 25 for most sets from IC form lol)

Awesome, will definitely be submitting an order for one of each (White, Black, WYSE, Dolch), and I'll probably get some extras too to help fill out numbers. I don't actually have a Dolch set yet, but hope to somewhere in the future...

Personally I don't agree with having more than one spacebar in the pack, as it would be unnecessary for most people.

Also, not sure if people would be interested, but what about including both a full touch and stepped centre-stemmed caps lock? I don't think an off-centre stemmed caps lock is really required.

I think for the base set I will include all 3 caps as its most likely not going to be much extra and just the one space bar. That should be all we need and ill add maybe an ISO kit or something.

This seems like a good grouping of keys to go with (hashbaz's pic of Dolch moogle from last buy).  :D

(black on white/beige with funky space bar?)

(white on black)

This seems like a good grouping of keys to go with.  :D

Just throwin this out there, since we have so many keys, why not add \| and `~ like the RA 2.0 sets :s

I know these are seen as "alpha keys" but I like how those two combined create a full 'wrap' around the alpha characters.

Like I said, just my $.02 :)

Make sure to include spacebars as a separate option so that owners of R3 moogles can get a better color match without buying a whole new set.  Also, please brand these as "round 4", "R4", etc. to identify continuity with previous sets. ;)

I was thinking the same thing. Some wyse sets need those keys anyways.

I'm considering getting in on this despite not needing anything currently.

The Koreans will be interested for sure.  Make sure to choose a better white color than I did. :P
any help would be greatly appreciated in color choice.

imo, the beige spacebar (not the white one) from WASDkeyboards.com comes very close to the white cherry caps. But not sure if he works with SP colour codes.

example with cherry caps and wasd spacebar

Those GH60 layouts (1,5 mods + 7 space bar) are designed to fit for a Cherry Corp 2shots. And they all do have a 7 space bar, even a better one than those edged ones SP produces...

It's been said before, but when it comes to keycaps and accessories, you should buy when you have the opportunity. Not for what you currently have, but what you might want in the future. Better to have something you don't really need right now, than need something you can't get later.

For instance, you might think you'll never have or even want a Korean custom keyboard, so you have no need of a tsangan compatibility kit with your keyset purchase. Then later, when you finally obtain one of them, you regret not having the correct keys for the bottom row.

Like already mentioned on DT, a dolch stepped capslock would be cool

from the price quote i got from Melissa im going to include both stepped and center-stemmed caps in the base sets for all kits as it doesn't add much extra.

im going to get a few more quotes on some different sets that others have mentioned and see if we get enough interest when i put up ordering to get them.

GB will go into ordering once all quotes are finalised for the sets im looking at and i figure out color codes and fonts (i want it all sorted first before going into ordering phase so i can have it all in the OP to keep it organised)

should only be a few more days at the latest this thing is moving fast so get on the train choo choo!

That gets expensive FAST :(

I.E. I'm likely going to get all 4 sets here...that's $80 for just Moogle, which means then I'm keeping my eye out for the set's themselves (minus my WYSE) and at a low of $50 a set...!

But I 'spose I do agree.

i've added updated price list for the "BASE" kit i want to do for each set.

also getting quotes on the following:

Anti-Caps Kit: for swapping control and caps lock.
1 x Control (1.75x)
1 x Caps-Lock (1.25x)

ISO Adapter Kit:
1 x Enter
1 x Backslash/Pipe
1 x ISO left Shift (1.25)

anything else i should add to get quotes on before moving this to ordering?

Is your ISO adapter kit for using an ANSI set on an ISO keyboard?  If so, you should probably just call it an ISO kit since that is what they are usually called.  Also, "ISO adapter kit" in the R3 moogle buy was the opposite, adapting an ISO set to work on an ANSI board.

yeah i pretty much just copied it from your R3 using the pics at DT for:

Anti-Caps Kit: for swapping Control and Caps Lock

ISO Adapter Kit: for using an ISO Cherry set on an ANSI keyboard

should i do both? gah so confusing and this being my first GB lol.

also thinking of doing like a full wrap kit:

1 Tab
1 Backspace
1 Enter
1 ~
1 \

Tab, Backspace, and Enter make up "full mod kit." You could add ~ and \ to the base set if you wanted.

ok sounds good if people are happy with adding ~ and \ to base set it shouldn't be much extra and i'll just do the normal "Full mod kit"

as well as the proper ISO KIT (what is this excactly, fat ISO enterkey?)

also single spacebars as requested.

lots to add!

add it to the FULL MOD SET then like i was originally going to do and call it "FULL WRAP SET" to get what people want out of those keys anyway lol.

someone said something about it being part of RA 2.0 Base set.

either way nothing is set in stone yet just getting ideas so i can figure out what the final lineup will be.

Ragnorock started this with his RA2.0 GB. Makes it so the contrasting modifiers completely wrap around the alphanumerics. SP has followed suit with their "stocked" modifier kits. I personally don't like it, since traditionally those keys are the same color as the alphanums. But I guess some people prefer it.

I just dug through my email history, here are the colors I used for the last round.  I think they're all a really good match except for the NN on WFK white keys.

Black: WFK on NN, NN space bar
White: NN on GAW and NN on WFK, WFK space bar
Dolch: WFK on GEW, GE space bar

have compared the wasd-space with the original cherry one. the wasd-space is more white than i thought. But have seen a picture where someone compared the CCnG space with the original one and its nearly the same color. (cant find that anymore) This cream cheese color code was WCK.

It all depends on the quality of your set and lighting. Personally I think CCnG was the best match. The WASD light grey still looks a bit too grey to my eyes, and I'd rather err on the white side than the grey side of the scale.

My signature hasn't changed since 2012. I should really update it.

Are you thinking of trying to use the i3oilermaker's new center stemmed caps lock that is stepped? (Pending his permission, O'course)

Hmm no I wasn't aware of it. We have plenty enough keys for now though I may add it as an extra. Will try and get some mockups done today and get color codes finalised before putting it into full GB ordering mode :)

(If anyone can help with mockups please pm me)

I can modify my mockups from R3 to fit your sets.  Also will take some pics of color samples next to real Cherry keys for color choosing purposes.  Gimpster posted some pics that are now buried somewhere in the R3 thread that showed the possible choices for Dolch, and the ones we used were pretty clearly the best.  We could maybe try to find a better gray/beige for the white sets, but I think the previous rounds have been quite good.  The only real question in my mind is choosing a new off-white color for the white kit spacebars and backslashes (and tildes I guess).

yeah that would be great, i think as others have said the CCnG white spacebar would make a good match. WCK

arn't all fonts just going to be cherry?

Wyse, RA, and CCnG are SP standard (Wyse) font. The Cherry ones are obviously Cherry font. WCK is a somewhat acceptable match for Cherry white, but its not a perfect match. We can probably find a closer color.

ok well i wish i had a damn SP color wheel it would take to long to get to me and the list from the other pic i posted isn't big enough!

i want to get this going within the next few days but yeah colors can be changed i guess but i'd much rather have them all set and ready to go before putting it in the order form.

You can start the group buy and finalize the last couple colors in a week or so. People know what the sets are supposed to look like so it isn't a big deal like other items for sale would need to be accurate from the start.

Just a thought (and hopefully this doesn't slow down anything too much), you could drum up some interest by adding Row3 Del/End/PgDn keys to the white-on-black set, to go along with inlikeflynn's Cherry MY harvest buy or anyone else who has white-on-black doubleshots from Dolch-like sets like these:

One step at a time IMO. Those keys would be more appropriate in their own group buy. But personally I would rather have original Cherry Del/End/PgDn that were the wrong profile as opposed to the right profile but thin doubleshots.

also thinking of doing like a full wrap set with Tab ~ \ Backspace. thoughts?

Tab, Backspace, and Enter make up "full mod kit." You could add ~ and \ to the base set if you wanted.

I'm down for at least two (possibly more if pricing is right) WYSE sets if these options are available. I'm new so I'm not quite sure on the terminology, but I think I need the "full mod kit" plus the "|\" key. My keycap sets are off WYSE terminal boards that are missing a lot of standard keys. I would like to make as many full sets as I can afford to since I have learned these group buys don't come around very often.

I would LOVE to replace the non-standard keys on the right side of the board but I am also seeing that most people on here seem to prefer the tenkeyless style so I am sure I'm in the minority there. I think I would need:
  • Print screen
  • scroll lock
  • Pause
  • Insert
  • Home
  • Page up
  • Page down
  • Delete
  • End
  • Num Lock
  • /
  • *
  • -
  • +

This is one of the donor boards:

The WYSE set definitely needs a |\ key for sets that came from terminal boards. Please include that, if possible, Rayuki.

WT, I also need the nine keys above the arrow cluster for one of my WYSE sets, so I'm right there with ya on that. But it's probably for another group buy, not this moogle buy.

Yeah, I figured that would be the case. Those 9 keys aren't that big a deal though. I would really like the complete num pad set though. I prefer the numpad because I use it a lot for data entry when doing spread sheets.

Thanks for the feedback though.

This Groupbuy needs winkeyless options

Something like this:

2 Alt 1.5x
2 Win 1x
1 Space 7x

Those keys would be called a "tsangan" kit. There are some group buys up for those, but they may already be closed to orders. Take a look.

im putting this GB on hold until we get more info on GMC for production. im sure everyone would be much more happy to wait a few extra months in the chance of getting official cherry stuff and i dont want to go forward until we know more.

thanks for all the interest guys.
