[IC] Aluminum Badges for Model M (Pill Shaped)
« on: Fri, 15 May 2015, 10:00:40 »
This is an interest check for replacement badges for Model M keyboards with the pill shaped badges.
The badges would be as follows:

  • Material:   0.020" Aluminum milled to Pill shape (25mm x 18mm)
  • IBM Logo: Laser etched and filled with Black
  • Backing:   3M 468 Self Adhesive backing

They would be $5 each plus shipping.

Register you interest with this form

Here is the vector image I created for the badge:

A few variations you might want to consider:
  • Laser etched without the black filled in
  • SSK-size badge

Un-filled makes sense and won't change cost, I'll add it.

I don't have an SSK. Could you (or someone with an SSK) provide dimensions?

With a tape measure I get 27/32" x 18/32" (the indented area).  Someone else may want to check that on theirs.

All we need now is someone willing to make an all Aluminum SSK Case, because the stupid prices on current SSK's, may include the possibility of someone actually making a stand alone case instead.

The best thing about unfilled, you can apply different colours at you lesure pretty sure u would be able to use some form of paint dab in there and wipe the excess like when u apply colour to an engraved plauqe

Feel free to correct me if i am wrong? I may be delusional i dont know

That's what I had in mind when i suggested it.   Also think it could be possible to color anodize it cleanly without it prefilled.

Form filled for some of each, although I need to go count boards and cases so my actual quantity may change slightly.

Two questions:

1) Did you consider etching away the background to create a silver-on-black logo?

2) If we ever When we get the GH-122 made, how many would be needed to make sense for a custom GH logo?

Thanks for doing this!

1) Silver on black could be an option. Black on silver is more in keeping with the standard Model M and Model F badges. Trying to keep permutations low for this round. Could be an option in the future.

2) $5 each at quantity of 100. Cheaper for more, of course

Would the unfilled laser etching be shiny? That's what I'm picturing and it sounds cool.

Also, here are some more precise SSK badge measurements:

101923-0 101925-1

So that's 15mm x 21.6mm for the SSK.

No, the etched portion would be dull.
Thanks for the dimensions on the SSK!!

1x SSK and 1x black and silver, if this is still alive.
Model M Industrial, SSK, Unicomp 104, Code TKL MX Green, FC660M MX Green + Clear + White + Grey, FC660C Topre 45g, MagicForce 68 USB and Bluetooth, Whitefox, some optical switch 65% Bluetooth split spacebar thing ... wait, I think I need an intervention. Too late, there’s a couple of new Model Fs on the way.

Made the request via your form, for 4 of each IBM labels (Black filled - Full sized and SSKs).

This would be extremely rare hence if you are a real IBM lover, you should be in this  :thumb: .

Just to join in the necrophilia, I ended up having some etched out of black/aluminum acrylic.

162249-0
Acrylic silver-on-black badges for the GH-122.2016.

Those were sized for the Unicomp PC-122 case, but they'd be easy enough to make in other sizes.  I wanted the legend in raised silver, but it could just as easily be in etched black.  And of course with (a fair use of) the "IBM" logo.
