Show off/talk about your avatar here.
« on: Fri, 18 January 2013, 06:02:38 »
I know a lot of people like their avatars to be representative of some facet of their online/offline persona, so I thought we might have a place to shoot the sh*t about them.

My avatar was drawn by the wife, and edited by me. I added a picture of my cherry ds set and a geekhack modifier keycap in the background to add some spice to the thing.
It's kind of tiny because of the size restrictions, but I think it came out pretty nice. My avatar character leaning on the modifier key was intentional, but not sure if it shows up too well unless you know what to look for.

What do you guys think? Any feedback?

I don't know, I change my avatar about every month. Don't care too much about it. Currently it's Kamina, because he's a badass.

That's interesting to me :).
I used to use avatars that I made from episodes of Bleach. I primarily enjoyed Ichigo's scenes where he was kicking total butt. It sort of got me pumped when thinking of those scenes.

These days I have avatars that are either made by my wife or things that reflect what I am interested in/thinking about.

There's always been a link to the source in my sig as well, if you want to go check out the guy who drew it.

I photoshopped mine together some years ago. I took the anonymous suit without a head and shopped a moose's head and neck onto it, and then mirrored it to be "backwards". You might not realize it's backward, but it is.

Mine was custom drawn by moonprismpwr. I like Star Trek, and have always related to Science Officer, Mr. Spock.

Mine is a crop from a wallpaper made by this guy. Nothing special about it, I just needed an avatar and had the wallpaper in my pictures folder.

Never put much into avatars because I don't really know what I really want as one, so I usually just go with whatever.
I have some old ones I've made myself though, one of them I still use on another forum:

Edit: phetto made me change; old avatar for those who don't know what I'm talking about

mine is a crop of the ducky 9008g2LE PCB.  i was a huge advocate defending the ducky board in the face of a number of very verbal naysayers.  the black band... well, that's water under the bridge now, but i'm too lazy to change it.

Mine is an overexposed photo of myself in a mirror. I took it by accident when I got a new camera in 2008, and right before I got rid of long hair. It somehow reminds me of the Deep Purple in Rock album cover.

I change avatars frequently on all my fora and social medias.  Don't know if that says anything about me or not.

My current one is Stitch, obviously.  I work in computer animation but truth be told, I love hand-drawn more.  The art of Chris Sanders (director of Lilo & Stitch) is particularly inspiring:

I'm sure some people have seen mine on other forums. It's by Miss Kika, an artist from SF. She does a lot of really cute noseless girl stuff (Samples below) and I actually have my avatar tattooed on my upper left arm. It's obviously not as boxy looking and has no black outlining, making it quite a bit softer. People often think its painted or fake, due to its brightness and lack of black outlining lol.

Edit: Okay apparently her newer stuff includes the nose lol

Dude... what? Life as I know it has been all a joke!?

I was going through a rough patch, and became quite self deprecating and a friend was thoroughly trying to debunk everything I was saying.  I bluntly retorted that if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, tastes like a duck, sheds water like a duck, etcetera (I went on quite at length) then it must be a duck.  "You are not a duck."

And I haven't been ever since.

Currently using the Section 9 logo from Ghost in the Shell.
Changed to this from the laughing man logo when someone else was using that.

The laughing man includes a partial J.D. Salinger quote: "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes"
The rest of the quote which was never included in Ghost in the Shell (Catcher in the Rye if you're interested) goes: "That way I wouldn’t have to have any goddamn stupid useless conversations with anybody."

Too many people on broadcast all the time and it reminds me (most of the time) not to speak unless I have something worthwhile to say.

Deaf-mutes and many other people with communication impacting disabilities have to make much more effort to communicate and I've found that when people broadcast less, it is usually more worth listening to.  I like the irony to the situation.
