All rests have been milled, dimensioned, and now sanded.

All that's left is the very long and slow finishing process.  Patience is the hardest part.

I snapped a couple of photos of the rests in my finishing area.  These all have a coat of oil and at least one coat of varnish.

Now that all of the orders have been made, I still have some lumber left. I've taken 2 additional already. All you need to do is fill out the Google Order Form.

That's what the respirator is for. Cats don't seem to mind the smell and they're the primary users of the basement.

This rest is pretty much everything I expected - thanks a ton trayke. It's a bit hard to make out but it does shimmer quite a bit, especially in the strong sun we've been getting up in the northeast.

Not *quite* sure but it does look like the logo faded a bit on the edge? I can't see any numbers >: but otherwise this both feels and looks fantastic, and the chatoyancy strongly reminds me of tiger's eye stone, especially by the darker areas.

Yep! I was the guinea pig for the buy because of address concerns (which I botched anyway but at least I have it now haha)

Yes, he did. He arranged ahead of time to rush the order because of address concerns. I needed to practice the finish so it made for a good opportunity.

I would love to find a wrist rest that used resin.

If I could find a rest that incorporated the blue that is like in this picture...

I could do something like this, though the challenge is building a form that fits the rest.  And another challenge is finding pecky lumber which I have so far not had any luck with.

Maybe I'll work on this as part of my next group buy.

Just wanted to provided a quick update.  14 wrests are completed and ready to ship out!

Important note:  The wrests are completed in the order that I received them, however if a particular wrest requires more finish, touch up, time to cure, or you placed a subsequent order, it can mean that an order placed early doesn't ship immediately.  I want to make sure that each wrest is high enough quality before I send it out the door.

And with 42 orders placed, I've all but run out of wood.

I've turned off the Google Form and will not be accepting new orders until all existing orders are fulfilled. Thank you all for making this such a big success. The first big batch shipped out yesterday and more will be shipping soon.

Excellent news! Can you give us an idea of about what order you are on in terms of production? Certainly not trying to rush you, but obviously I'm naturally curious.

2 coats of watco danish oil applied with 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper.  Let dry for 2-3 days.
3 coats of arm-r-seal semi gloss.  Applied 1 side at a time, 8 hours between sides, 24 hours between re-coats.
Rubbed down with a 600 grit sanding sponge to level finish.
More coats of ArS as the boards appearance dictates and rub downs.

Anything we should be careful with around the wrist rest? Common food products that will react horribly with the seal?

Trayke will likely have more detail, but you don't want to let wet things sit. You're unlikely to use your really fancy rest as a beverage coaster, but if you do, it will show rings that can't be removed except for a full strip and refinish. Things should bead up nicely though, so if anything accidentally gets on it, wipe down immediately and you'll be fine.

You shouldn't leave any urathane product in direct sunlight, and this urathane product in particular. You will experience significant yellowing. The flip side of it is this final finish will over time take a slight Amber cast and get a bit darker over time. It should result in a really beautiful, warm, rich finish that won't reach its "final form" for many years. Unless you blast it with UV and yellow it of course. So don't do that.

When I ship, I send out an email with care instructions.  In general, it's water resistant, not waterproof.  If you spill something on it, warm water will clean it.  Chemicals won't bother it, but hard abrasions might.

I'm sorry to hear that's happening.

As I mentioned in my shipment email, that's one of the big challenges with natural wood. Wood moves. It happens with humidity changes, and temperature changes, and it's also a reflection of the surface that it's sitting on.  Before I send each rest out I ensure that it's level on the cast iron bed of my jointer, which is ground to level to a thousandth of a degree.  I know that doesn't help the fact that your rest is wobbling though, so it's little consolation.  What I usually recommend is to use something small and thin to help level out the uneven spot and ensure it doesn't wobble.

Well you'll be happy to know that everyone's wrests have begun the finishing process.  This is the hardest part as the first thing you do is have to wait 4 days without doing anything. Luckily I'm going out of town this weekend so it will be easier for me.

I think he's referring to the chatoyance, which is the 3D like effect old growth mahogany has.  It is hard to capture on camera. Some boards look completely different as you move them side to side in the light. It's really crazy.

All wrests are done, I'm just trying to find time to package them up and ship them up.  Being out of town 2 weeks in a row is not helping.
