Waiting for stabs so nothing is soldered yet.
Thanks for sharing!

Stabs came in today so here's the final result.

Show Image

Silver aluminium case, silver carbon fibre plate, lubed Cherry mx clears in RGB housing with Sprit 85g springs, Zeal gold plated stabs, Pexon cable and of course Nerd60 Mekanisk/1up keyboards edition.

Thank you for sharing! I appericate it. Looks sick.

The package has arrived safely downunder!

Should've ordered 2 mint PCBs! lol.
the subtle mint green colour is really" nice

Thanks for running an awesome GB, LeandreN  :thumb:

Thank you for posting in the thread, good luck with the builds-

(Attachment Link)
(Attachment Link)

First ever build. More or less a success with a few hiccups on the way.
Dropped case with plate while fiddling: scratched case, bent plate at the sensitive enter\iso location.
Soldered \| switch not lined up, so keycap was crooked and interfered with enter keycap.
Clipped the stabilizers like a good boy, but some how backspace is still very mushy and sticky. Tried to lube the wire through the plate holes.... Should have checked\lubed them before soldering everything...
But anyway, it's done ant it works

Cheap clear case, gateron browns + whites for modifiers (courtesy for pinkies).

I don't think i would ever go back to full size or tkl board, even after so little time with this one. Fears about not having arrows and stuff were proved false. Though i can clearly see now, that i would prefer a layout that uses thumbs more and pinkies less, but that's for another day.

About leds. Never cared much for them, but now i am thinking since the pcb supports them, why not. I want leds to ligtup on layers. Problem is side leds are single color, so how to show two layers? Crazy idea about using switch leds for that. If i would solder them on the bottom. Effectively having two color underlight. Ideally i would want to use only some of them (for example only on the sides). Is this possible or leds wont work if i don't solder all of them?

P.S. Again, thanks LeandreN for this group buy.

If the plate ends up not working somehow, let me know!
Thank you for posting!

60% is really a fantastic form factor-

isnt it bad for the screw to be pushing on the plate instead of the pcb itself?

This case specifically uses wood screws directly into it, and it's pretty hard to find smaller wood screws. As far as it being bad, not really since the keycaps never bottom out enough to hit the screws.

Left over aluminium and carbon fibre.

No left over steel as of now, but I am looking at putting an order in for some depending on when I get brass...

Thanks for your patience, there are little amounts per type, so get them while you can.

I like the look and feel of the carbon plate. The whole build is so much better than my old Steelkeys 6G (the old one; MX Black) and the MX-Board 3.0 with MX Brown that I am using at work.

But I cannot really judge the plate individually but only the build as a whole, which is awesome!

The Post tried as hard as they dared to break this plate in transit, but they could not get through LeandreN Superior Shipping.

This plate is absolutely brilliant in the sunlight. It's a real same it will primarily live indoors and under keycaps :,(

It took me a long while to realize that HHKB plates are basically my favourite layout without the Control cutouts. So I decided to make those cuts myself.

I overlapped the HHKB plate over a winkeyless one and put three switched through for a more precise alignment, then I marked the cutting area with a blackmarker, like so.

I drilled through the inside to make room for a hand file to finish the cutout.

Originally I wanted to do this with a steel plate, but it was so hard that I couldn't get through even with a power drill, and I don't own a drill press, so props to LeandreN for making my life a living hell providing us with top-notch materials.

I then filed the cutout to make them square. It look like five minutes each.

I filed again the left cutout later on because it wasn't square but I don't have a picture for that.

I populated plate and PCB with switches and it looked great.

For this keyboard I used a plastic 60% case bought on Aliexpress.

Close ups on the hand cut holes.

Keycaps.

I really like the contrast between black keycaps and red plate, and I'm very satisfied with the result. I'll try again with the steel plate in the future but surely I'll be getting more aluminum HHKB plates.

Lastly, some technical details and a summary:
Parts used
PCB: White GON's NerD 60% Mekanisk - 1UPkeyboards edition, with TMK firmware
Plate: R4 HHKB red aluminum plate.
Switches: Gateron KS-3 Black, bought on Aliexpress.
Keycaps: Mods are from WoB icon mods GB, alphas are OG cherry lasered and infilled ABS, right shift is a gracious present from LeandreN himself.

Tools used
Dremel 3000 to cut the extra holes.
USBasp programmer to replace NerD's bootloader and firmware.
This great guide to achieve the previous goal.

That's it.
Thanks for reading.

Should I have done something special with the enter switch when mounting it?

The corner toward the "]" key seems to be very close to that key and when I press it down, it feels mushy and seems to twist a little counterclockwise. Just like 4 or 5 degrees...  I feel like the stabilizers or switch are somehow out of whack...

If the switch is plate mounted, i.e. if it doesn't have the two small plastic pins on the bottom side, desolder and reseat it. It might be slightly rotated.

It's a PCB mounted Zealio switch. I will try desoldering and reseating tonight.
