Those 50 USD for shipping kills the deal for me. I was going to buy it...

Buying keyboards from USA is now prohibitive.

Yeah, international shipping has been really expensive since the USPS raised their rates. This is a good deal for anyone in the US, though.

So tempting, but I have spent WAY too much on keyboards so far this year.

I'm a big fan of my Model M and everyone says that the F is even better. Price seems like a good deal. Heh, heh, listen to me, I'm trying to talk myself into it!

Must resist

Yes, I know what you mean. I'm in Canada and the average shipping price for these keyboards is now $45-50 US. Sometimes the seller is only 100km across the border from me and it's $50 shipping, but he'll offer free shipping to some US state 3000km away. The ultimate worst was when a seller wanted over $100 to ship a keyboard to me (300km) but offered free shipping to US protectorate Guam - on the other side of the frigging Earth.

Edit: actually this was the absolute worst:

Free shipping anywhere in the US, but $235 to Canada??

Here's another uber cheap Model F XT.  $30 shipped!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-IBM-SERIAL-PORT-CONNECTOR-Keyboard-WORKING-/251237305747?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item3a7ee90d93

The weird thing about that listing is that all the pictures appear to be from 2008. (either that or the camera clock is wrong)

...but the listing specifically says "Pictures are of the actual keyboard."

Pretty clean unit, apart from the "custom" modded suction cup and cork stick-on feet.  The mind boggles at the force required to shift one of those around a desk...

Are these compatible with Windows, with a connector adapter, or would this require a teensy controller (?) to make it work?

Seller also listed a Honeywell, a Dell AT101 (beige/putty) and a Microlex (Tandy Corp, for Canada market?).

Any idea if that Honeywell used mechanical switches?  Great price-points on all of these, IMO.

As a seller, shipping has always been bad and recently gotten worse.

I once posted a Model M in Georgia, on Thursday mid-afternoon, via USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Game Board box, and it arrived before noon on Saturday in Alaska, for $16. They certainly lost money on that one, and it makes no more sense than charging me the same for Mexico as for Tasmania (yes, I have sold keyboards there!).

But what else are buyers and sellers supposed to do?

No doubt the Canada-US thing is the most ridiculous.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

I think the newer ones are all rubberdome or buckling rubber sleeve.

Bytheway, the other F XT I posted in the other topic sold for $7 (+ $12 shipping) You can find good deals on these if you wait.

Actually, it sold for $5.73. I was watching it, but couldn't bid because the seller didn't ship to Canada. I bid on the other one, but with shipping to Canada it went over my limit of $70.

I should have figured that one of you guys was watching that. I was so surprised that no one else was bidding on it. So glad to get it for less than $20.
This is going to be the first buckling spring that I've owned (and only the second mechanical keyboard. The first is a KB-5181 with Monterey Blues that I found for $3 at the local store the other day).

Oh, and hello! I'm new here :P

Aer, Welcome to the forum! You got an excellent deal on the keyboard, though you'll have to make (or buy) an adapter to use it with a modern computer.

I hope you enjoy it, asd I'm certainly glad it went to a (new) member of the community.

(also, sorry about posting the price wrong.)

I'm aware about the different protocols between XT and AT.
I'll be using soarer's teensy converter with it (what else would I use, anyway? I haven't found any other and his works with everything I could ever want. Mainly the F-122).

If you're using it with multiple Keyboards, you wight consider making the soarer-teensy converterbox with a PS2 port, and then making PS2 to XT or Ps2 to F-122 adapter cables. I believe XT and the F-122 share different DIN standards (270 degrees for the F-122 and 180 degrees for XT)

There does exist other XT to AT converters (see here) but I think the teensy/soarer is the best solution.

Way ahead of you. I've already got my female PS2 prepped and AT/XT to PS2 converter ready!
Both the Teensy and the keyboard should be waiting for me when I get back from vacation.

And I'll worry about the F-122 to PS2 when I get an F-122 :P
