...also posted on DT...

I apologize for being a few days late with this report.  These are the payments that I received between 8/11 and 8/21.  Previous payments are already posted here.  Please note that these are only payments that were sent to me, not blighty.

08/21 aristocrat, $149.00 USD
08/21 chronos, $40.52 USD
08/21 JSchool, $73.77 USD
08/20 Salisen, $76.90 USD
08/18 nomaddude, $8.23 USD
08/18 defstar, $83.00 USD
08/15 gbohn, $16.46 USD
08/13 wsa, $0.58 USD
08/13 wsa, $2.46 USD
08/12 wsa, $81.00 USD
08/12 MadScienitst46, $20.16 USD
08/11 aggiejy, $86.24 USD

I thought I would go ahead and post the actual payment amounts this time to make it easier for you to check your records.  If anyone objects to your payment amount being posted just shoot me a PM and I'll blank yours out.  I really don't think it should be an issue.

aristocrat, did you get your shipping address updated to 7bit_R4?  Don't send address updates to me.  I can't update the database.  I don't have it.  Send address corrections to 7bit_R4.  7bit and andrewjoy posted how to do that just a couple of messages ago.

*Note: When I process your payment I mark them in Paypal as "Mark as Shipped". Paypal has been known to lock accounts where "Goods" payments are not marked as shipped within a certain amount of time. Since these GBs take so long, to avoid your payments being frozen up by Paypal, I mark them as shipped. Paypal will send you an email saying your order has been marked as shipped. * The shipping company will show as "7bit" and the "tracking number" will be your invoice number and username.

**Note: Your actual caps order has not shipped yet. The orders will ship after SP manufactures them, sends them to 7bit and he will ship them to you and notify you of the actual ship date and tracking information.

Thank you guys for your timely payments.

Are you volunteering?

Germany here. Otherwise I’d surely consider it. Like some others, too.

It’s somehow incredible that we can send stuff around the world for just some bucks but can’t send our money, lol.

I don't know.  He's not communicated with me about it.  If he doesn't reply to your message, send him another one.

I owe 1.03, is this the time when we should pay to finalize 100%?  The invoice I got the other day did not mention to pay but that I should order more so payment was 'worthwhile' which is tempting...

I also am overpaid by like $1.19, if 7bit can orchestrate using my credit to cover someone's tiny debt. I don't particularly care who.

No sweat.  You did include your invoice number which is the most important part.  Your username just makes things easier.

Thanks, I think I know almost everything to order a couple sets tomorrow, but I don't see anywhere saying how the payment is done... (I'm a brazilian so I'd normally pay via Visa/Paypal, ship to my forwarder service in USA, then to brazil...)

Just wire your payment straight to Signature Plastics if you don't mind.  It will be easier for everyone that way.  You're lucky you got your order(s) in just under the wire.  ;)

I've been going to dt for updates, but frankly it's a little ****ed up that 7bit would bail on this board in the middle of a group buy with tens of thousands of dollars in the balance. Not to mention his answers to "what is the status" are either super vague or trollish, or just reposting the leftover list. I appreciate the effort he's going through, but his actions don't inspire a lot of confidence that my money is actually going to result in me getting keycaps.

Moving this buy to Deskthority was, unfortunately, necessary.  7bit can't accept orders via the geekhack PM system anymore due to the new forum software that was put in place after r00tw0rm (without a lot of work on his ordering script anyway).

What questions are there left?
We still need to collect some money. SP began production a while ago, ETA is end of this year.
What else is there you want to know?

I think a little of your time and you could answer your questions yourself...

Has he actually confirmed production started? Either way, not really my point. My point is he's performing a transaction, and while I understand it's not something instantaneous like an ebay sale, he's still become essentially absent in the middle of it. If you had an ebay seller say "thanks for your money. buy more stuff!" and then not get any updates or product until you complain loudly enough, and the update you get is someone other than the seller telling you "oh it's fine, he's just finishing the sale over at joescrappyauction.com." Wouldn't you be kind of annoyed?

As for my questions, I don't have any pressing ones other than "what's the status?" which I again understand is hard for him to know exactly what is going on from SP's side, but since they ARE a business, you can hassle them for information pretty much as often as you want. Last time I asked for the status on DT, his answer was "MAYBE" we are in production and "By the end of this week we are at 90% payment including shipping." which are answers sure, but they are frustrating when offered without explanation. He set the "Pay for your order or have it cancelled" deadline to Sept 18. Why are we only 90% by Oct 4th?

I'm not calling 7bit a scammer, I'm just incredibly frustrated with this group buy. I wish 7bit was willing/able to be more vocal about what's going on, since there is a non-trivial amount of my money, and lots and lots of other peoples money that has just been sitting mid-transaction for most of a year. I probably will choose not to participate in any 7bit run group buys after this one, and I hope to god no one attempts to run one of this scale again.

Well, at which point do you see a production beginning in general?
He stated somewhen in summer they already made all the spacebars (or are working on them, producing them, whatever).

And the "buy more stuff" attitude is understandable if you see his side. He mentioned somewhere he will make a loss of about $5000 with this GB because many abandoned ship.
Everything he posts on his list will definitely be produced. But those caps will only sit around his house waiting for their destiny.
Knowing this detail on his side I won't be totally shocked if he just keeps all the money and run :D

The very slow collecting rate of money is indeed a little frustrating. But nothing 7bit can do about. If you can come up with a better solution for transferring those huge amounts of money without Paypal locking down accounts and the IRS looking for taxes, then spill it. We didn't encountered a better solution so far.
So time periods between payments via PP are "long" and some people simply can't pay yet. Watch the regularity in which blightley (the current PP collector) posts the payments. He doens't post every day...
If you (mainly Americans, we Europeans can easily wire money with SEPA) would have a better way to wire money to Germany, payment collection wouldn't take this damn long.

I still think 7bit was the right guy for the job. Unfortunately this GB is just too big. All the variations, all the different styles, etc. Not to mention the possible mistakes SP will (or won't?) make...

And again: You worried about your money? (I don't know how much it is, but I think it's not over the $1000 mark) Then imagine 7bit's worries about his $5000. And everyone has a RL which comes first. So why should he post the same answer over and over again? I wouldn't, so does he.
If you really are that worried, read the thread over at DT from A-Z, and ultimately PM 7bit. You might get an answer (I always got one)...

He actually answered emptythecache directly in this post.

Transcript...

emptythecache: Maybe I missed it, but what is the current status?

emptythecache: Does SP have our order?

7bit: YES.

emptythecache: Have they started production?

7bit: MAYBE.

emptythecache: If not, what is holding us up?

7bit: Preparing production (3900 different kinds of key caps)

emptythecache: Have we paid in full? (The answer to this SHOULD be yes, since we are almost a month after the "pay in full" deadline)

7bit: By the end of this week we are at 90% payment including shipping.

emptythecache: I really hope your answer has something concrete like dates, instead of "soon" and a repost of the leftover list. I've been waiting a very long time and given you a large portion of my money on faith. I'm not asking for my keys tomorrow, I just want to be assured we're making progress.

7bit: Production will take a month and a half and the only information I've got is they wanted to start with the DCS keys last week.

That was October 4th.
Like DeathAdder said, the scope of the GB was probably just too big.  But emptythecache, you are being impatient now.

Have people forgotten this is R4?  Pay up then pray to baby jeebus each night that your keys will arrive.  They will get here eventually. Just chillax.
