Custom 6.5u Alps Stabilizer!
« on: Sat, 07 July 2018, 01:29:47 »
Hello Geekhack!

I just wanted to share how I was able to cut/bend a 9u stabilizer wire from a WYSE board down into a 6.5u length so I can use it with plate mount stabs. Hopefully it helps someone. For context, the reason I wanted to do this was I want to use Cherry stabilizers in my next custom alps build which uses a 6.5u mx stabilizer (like from PMK, the currently running alps throwback, etc).

Basically, what I did was take the 9u stab wire, cut the end, then meticulously bend it with pliars to try and get it as close to a tight 90 degree angle as possible.

Here's some photos and a video.: https://imgur.com/gallery/MSlBXEr

Next step is to get a tool to try and help me do this better at a tighter angle as you can see in the photo the angle isn't tight enough to sit cleanly in the housing. I'll also be trying to bend another see if i can figure out a way to do it more tightly with just pliers.
