GB Thread

Welcome to the Hunt!

My name is Tom and I am so proud to share my project "GMK Hunt" with you.
I am creating this set to get more engaged with the hobby we all share.

This set is inspired by the nice scenery of a hunt. The colours shall represent the firs, muddy grounds and pebble. To match the terrain as good as possible it uses 2 Ral colors and one GMK color.

I am looking forward to all your feedback, for that please comment down below and fill out my IC-Form!

All of the designs were made under the specifications of GMK and were confirmed by Ulliam.  :D

As of now, this is not planned, I will look into the feedback in the google form and react to it.

I love these outdoors inspired sets and this one might be my favorite one so far. Insta buy.
Also I think arrow novelties would fit amazingly into this set! (like the backspace one you have already).

Amazing! Certainly well thought set. Beautiful execution in terms of colour scheme. My sincere words of appreciation towards the author for bringing it for us.

However, as much as it would be a guaranteed purchase from my side as far as aesthetics go, there's a fly in the ointment - the sole inspiration of this set.

Now don't get me wrong. I acknowledge that for us, humans, hunting always had and still has an important and valid purpose (more than one), therefore per-se there's nothing wrong here. Yet I still think it doesn't resonate well. I mean we are in a hobby territory - why can't we spent that one bit more care to get rid of potential negativity and try to replace it with more noble motive?

You have a great potential here of changing swiftly from having ambiguous context to something everyone could stand behind.
Why to take for an inspiration a practice of "exterminating" wildlife (an overstatement and not my point in this particular situation, but it could bring such vibes for some of us, more caring for the nature) instead of promotion of it's conservation?

Would you be keen to at least consider looking for some alternative?

And one last note I'd like to leave you all with. While I am not an activist, my personal opinion - hunters that are truly worth a respect are those who use camera instead of a rifle : )

As a vegan that deigned the novelties. I don’t tend to look for deep messages in my keycaps. I just buy what I think looks good and don’t use what I don’t. I’d rather see this than another heavily liberated anime character.

The wolf novelty alongside the others makes it sound like you think it's morally acceptable to hunt wolves... You don't feed bacon to pigs, you don't have sex with your relatives, and you don't hunt wolves. Nice set otherwise.

I would also consider looking at different naming options or maybe add a "The" infront of Hunt.
Otherwise I like the set.

Ofcourse you do not hunt wolves. The wolve is inplemented for portraying the theme as a whole. The wolve is part of the wildlife.

Although the OG comment made me lol I agree with this. I got the vibe of wolves being part of the hunt rather than the prey.

As far as the activist perspective on this layout goes, I get it if you’re not d on the whole hunting thing cause you’ve sworn off meat, but this is more an aesthetic than anything else. Don’t get the novelties in that case! Just pls don’t complain about hunters in between bites of your cheeseburger. If u already eat meat u have to either have 2 brain cells to complain about hunting or be 12 y/o.

Set looks really nice!

It was a rare steak actually  ;)
Jokes aside, I do actually think a Duck or some other prey animal would fit the Hunter vibe a bit better. I'd even take a Salmon. I think the wolf novelty would be a better fit for GMK Forest*.

Thank you! I take this as a huge compliment!

Ofcourse the final product will slightly differ, because of monitor calibration, light and so on. However I own real life samples of all the colors and they are very true to the renders shown.

In my point of view, R5 is not as common anymore, it is mostly used in retro inspired keycap sets and therefore I will stick to R4. :)

I will take a look at the 3U bar, tho!

The wolf novelty alongside the others makes it sound like you think it's morally acceptable to hunt wolves... You don't feed bacon to pigs, you don't have sex with your relatives, and you don't hunt wolves. Nice set otherwise.

Yikes.

Hello GeekHack!

My IC for GMK Hunt has been up for a week by now and I am happy so many of you showed interest in my project!
Thank you very much for you interest, feedback and support, I appreciate it a lot !

Today, I would like to make a FAQ for the questions in the google form.

Can you change the bottom row to R5?
In my point of view R5 is mostly used in retro styled keycap sets such as ASCII. In modern day keycap sets R4 is more of a standard and most majority is used to it.
GMK Hunt will feature R4 bottom row and by the way kit render will be updated with row and unit specification.

Can you look into different mod legends such as "Text+Icon"?
I have looked into different modifier legends and in my opinion icon only modifier look the best with the set.

Can you provide an alternative alpha set?
YES! An alternative alpha set will be provided and is currently developed. It will be posted to the IC in the near future.

Can you provide an international kit?
For now the demand has not been big enough, however until GB is plenty of time to implement it, so it is still a maybe.

Where are the mod colored arrows?
They will be implemented in the base kit, this has slipped through.

Will there be more collaborations?
YES! Many more collaborations are planed!

Next week there will be a nice update for you guys!

I don’t know if it’s just formatting in Safari, but I can’t see the text there, it’s almost the same colour as the background.

If you use custom font colours, I don’t think the forum themes adjust properly in the same way they’d do with black or white. Maybe it’s my fault for using the Thoriated theme :P

I used the colors provided by GeekHack and you can read it well with a standard dark background. I used the color to stick to my theme, I guess it is your theme  :p

Yup, I can see fine if I switch back to the default theme. It was just a formatting note, these forums aren’t dynamic so it’s always worth thinking if the font you are using will work on a light background as well as a dark - 27k people, or 20% of the users on the forum, use one of the two light themes ^-^

I also added some renders for with the AXE60.

The AXE60 is a 60% keyboard inspired by the norse mythology and the apple magic keyboard.
Both inspirations are very appealing for me so I just have to get a render with GMK Hunt!

Please check out the IC of the AXE60!

Welcome to a big update featuring updated and new kits as well as render!

First off the highly requested alternative alpha kit "Fir" has been added to the IC!

Secondly, for all my international friends especially those in Europe, I added the international kit "Tracking" to the IC!

Thirdly, the base kit now has mod coloured arrows and F13 in the wrong color.

Also all the kits now feature size and row of a key.

The GB of the Pneuma by my buddy Stef Wolters was delayed due to a new anodizer, therefore you can please your eyes with a new Pneuma render showing off the alternative kit in it's glory!

Also I adjusted the name change of TX Keyboards to Mekibo in the graphic.

alternative alphas best alphas, looks clean  :thumb:

also I noticed the note of F13 being "wrong colour" in base, is this intentional because mod coloured F13 is included with the alternative alphas? why not include mod colour F13 in base and scrap F13 altogether in alternative alphas? mod coloured F13 seems to me to be the standard most sets go with.

The alternative alphas turned out really well, and I am happy you like them.
The comment "wrong colour" was done because I have watched Black Simon lately and he always says it is the wrong colour either way. I thought it would be a nice idea to implement both F13 with these two kits, but at the end it comes down to preferences as there is no correct colour. :D

If you put F13 right after F12 like that, it should be in mod color, this will save you the F13 key in the alt alpha. Also, there's a problem with alpha color tilde key, it's only ~.

My perception of F13 colour was, it comes down to preference no matter the position and that is why there is the running joke of being wrong colour. Can you explain from your perspective when which colour is applicable or "right"?

Thank you for pointing out that the tilde key is missing a legend! I will adjust that.

It also is in the symmetrically opposite position to the mod-coloured Esc key with respect to the function row, with its position being right aligned with the rest of the right hand side mods.

Everything indicates F13 should be mod coloured, I know I have never seen to my memory a set ran with alpha coloured F13.

Please consider adding a standard dark green tab key to the alt alphas kit so buyer who joins base and alt alphas can cover 2 keyboards: 1 full size and 1 65s layout.

Hello there!

It certainly has been a while since my last update. :D

I have good news tho.

The GB will be held in December of this year, an exact date will be communicated 1-2 prior.

GMK Hunt gained two more vendors! I am proud to welcome Swagkeys and Basekeys into the lineup.
If you have any other wishes for vendors reach out to me on IG or shoot me a message on Geekhack!

Furthermore I added 4 new collaborations! I am happy to work with these amazing artists!

The kits will be updated soon. New render are in progress.

Re: [IC] GMK Hunt | Kitting Final
« Reply #94 on: Sun, 18 July 2021, 14:40:08 »
Good Sunday evening!

Today I bring you the news that kits for GMK Hunt are final! A few changes have been made, Let's have a look at them.

The base kit now features minimal 40s support! With that being added the following sizes will fit the base kit: 40%, 60%, 65%, 75%, TKL, Full-Size and Alice.

Furthermore, the accent ISO-Enter was taken off the base as it is featured in the novelty kit and to reduce the bloating of the big base as it is.
Last but not least a single 1U control was also removed as it feats no purpose.

The alternate alpha kit now has a tab. This gives the opportunity for everyone, who buys the kit, to fill up two boards! Pretty amazing.
The space bars moved to the spacebar kit to reduce over all cost.

Small update on the novelties. The stag was slightly modified to be more harmonious with rest. To archived that, the "neck" lines were removed.

Space bar kit now features 2x 3U space bars. Also the brown accent bars have been changed to green for the alternate set. Having all 3 coloured space bars would increase the cost.

The 6U off center space bar was removed because of a too small demographic and to reduce pricing.

The tracking(Intl) kit is part of the GB but has not been modified therefore not included in this change message.

All kitting changes were approved by Konstantin, and may therefore be final!

Rama was not planed as a collaborator, I am going with Salvun, he is also very talented in making metal artisans. The GB starts some day in Dezember of this year! Have your eyes out for it, I am going to get a date announced 1-2 months prior.

This would be an insta-buy from me if the numpad had a row 1 = key so that i could use it with Zambumon's Sar.

Unfortunatly the kitting is finalised and from my expierence the 1 U "=" key is quite rare. Best of luck finding that perfect match for your keyboard!

Hey People!

We received the quotes from GMK today! We can finally head over to planning to GB and I will let you know when pricing and date can be announced!

Update on Novelites

Also with due quoting issues the novelties had to be slightly modified to fit GMK requirements. However, I think they turned out amazing and changes are for the better!

I'm so in on this set.  I'm not a fan of hunting, but a huge fan of these colors.

Thank you! The name "Hunt" was chosen primarily to catch a certain muddy forrest vibe rather than the hunting in itself.

Thanks Tom Sparrow. While you’re at it, can you check to see if Mekibo is displaying the right novelty kit? They have r4 1u deer and I believe you changed them to arrows.
