Yeah I think those caps would look phenomenal with an original Cherry housing as well!

Ki, do you know if the Plate and PCB combo would be compatible with a G81-1800 housing? I only have a G81-1800 and not a G80-1800 so I'm not sure if they are the same. (I know this has been asked before but I don't think anyone gave a definitive answer)

you can use pcb and plate on original housing (g81 or g80)
but
you must cut the housing a little.
it's not hard to cut.

Have a good trip!

Just one last question: if I had a G80-1800 case, nothing would need to be cut at all?

I am already checking what caps i (will) have which fit, regarding rows especially. Unfortunately there are not that many sets out there which would cover the whole board! I'm happy with this layout since i have so many Round 5 caps ordered, that i could cover this board i think 3 times :)

I am not sure yet if to buy these PBT caps together with the TX1800 or not, they look very nice though!

Update.
I took some Proto keycaps from Lyn3.
These are just Proto... so the quality is not the best.
He is trying to increase the quality.
I think the quality is getting better.

Wow. I really wish I had the funds to buy this, but I'm still recovering from my Model F restoration that went way over budget. gah.

Anyway, this looks awesome, and I love the TX1800 layout. I wish you all the best!

Go for the budget option and order just the plate and PCB and use the case of an G81-1800. It's not often you can get your hands on a backlit 1800 board. ;)

Kin25, have just sent you a pm detailing what I want from you.

An all BLACK Mamba TX1800 keyboard, this will be the ONE I've been looking for such a long time, please make this happen soon here on Geekhack  8) .

April is soooooooooooooooooo far away.

My wallet is weeping in anticipation of its arrival...this and the alu hhkb case is going to put a deep hurtin on my finances for the next few months

Oooohhh God, why is 2015 the best year for GBs but also the year of me having no so little disposable income...

At least I will have nice keyboards.  :(

With any luck, I won't like the v3 brobot design, and then I'll have plenty of disposable income!

What a wishful thinker you are!  ;D

I know...I'm going to love it and continue to be broke

Such is life here at wallet hack.

Still not sure black or gray case  :-\
You could always get both! :P

I got black for myself, but the grey does look really nice. :)

I'm thinking more towards grey...

If anyone is just buying caps and not the board I will buy your short shift if you don't need it.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

It appears that LYN is making prototype caps for a few people as Duck has a bunch of awesome looking pictures on his site.

Edit: I think these are pushing me off the fence to get a set.  :3

Doesn't OP say you can buy just the caps at a slightly higher price than GB with the keyboard price?
