I'm pretty new to the keyboard world and so is still unfamiliar with lots of things. For keyboard GBs like this, does it come as a kit and we need to build it ourselves? I really like this but worried I'll destroy it if I have to build it myself

The only thing that needs assembly with this are the sockets on the PCB ; even though they're "surface mount" they're a relatively easy component to solder and comparable to through hole components. That being said you should definitely practice some soldering, watch some YouTube videos on how to solder, do some through hole soldering, and you should be good enough to build a keyboard.

Usually these offer the ability to buy an extra PCB and/or plate, which I ALWAYS recommend.

On top of that, there are other kits you can get which will be much cheaper which allow you to practice soldering. I'd highly recommend a through-hole board to get the most experience.

https://keycapsss.com/diy-kits/104/plaid-pad-4x4-numpad?c=17

A numpad is always a good start.

I never thought of using numpad kit to practice. It's a great idea, I'll definitely look into getting some. Thanks for the suggestion!

What does the Chinese on the back of those keyboards mean?

Center reads"International Thick Boi" with "Boi" being phonetic, bottom left is my name. It's just something extra I did for myself cause I have some access to a laser engraver.

Hawt but id really want some other layout options, solder PCB for next run perhaps? So we can have options for ISO, flipped numpads, split backspace, split space and all that fun stuff people love :) Best of luck on the GB  :thumb:

Will the pcb and plate support pcb-mounted/screw-in stabs?

Plate mounted stabs right? Or is there something supporting the pcb so we can use screw ins?

Will the pcb and plate support pcb-mounted/screw-in stabs?

The stableizers are plate mounted, they're not attached to the pcb/use screws.

Oh, that's quite dissapointing. Do you think you could still make the change to pcb-mount stabs?

seconded the idea! Is it still possible to integrate the stab holes on the pcb and make the plate slightly more open? C3 stabs look very promising!

I'm a big fan of PCB mount as well. Plate mount is just so stab limiting.

I'm trying to refrain from making any big changes to the design as moving to PCB mounted will change both the Plate and PCB designs.
Stabilizers will be plate mounted.

Maybe consider running a poll to see which type of stab most people want?

Personally, I would prefer PCB mount stabs

No grey for Hipro?

I will be keeping it to 5 standard color options to keep price down. Leaving the case uncolored is an option (just have it smoothed/bead blasted [or apply your own finish afterwards]).
If you are really set on a specific color I can see if they will quote it; there would be a price increase due to them having to mix a new color for 1 part.

I was thinking a satin/semi-gloss for the powder coats, and yes both top and bottom can be different colors.

Here are the estimates I was given from the quotes for the parts shipped to me:
PCB: 80-96 days
Case: 35 days

I wish these were a lot less but the Corona Virus ramping up right after the Chinese new year break really slowed a lot of manufacturing down.

So is the only option for the PCB to solder the hotswap sockets on or will you be able to use it as a regular solderable pcb?

yes, hotswap only unless you wanted to solder the switches into the hotswap sockets.

Second group buy all depends on how well this one works out, but a good estimate might be around August.

All the pictures for the low-profile are on the initial post.
