Are there photos / videos of how this would work with universal TKL plates?  Been trying to visualize it.

It will work since the universal plates allow switch top removal

Oh yeah, I know it should work, I just wanted to see how :)  I've only ever opened switches from underneath with a tiny screwdriver, so I'm trying to visualize using the tool.  Presumably the 4 flat protruding bits will go into the holes where the tabs are located, from the top, then push to open the tabs outwards, then lift up the top of the switch, holding it with both parts of the tool?

I like this. Wood handles, that are connected with a pin, and have a spring, sort of like a pair of shears.

Yes if you are using a custom plate.

The stock plate does not have switch hole cut outs that allow for switch top removal.

Joining the waiting list.

I definitely need a pair (as I've somehow managed to lose mine).

This time around, I'm going to hook these up to a huge keychain or chain it to my desk.

If you really need something to open your switches, you can make a comparable tool out of paper clips as seen in DanGWanG's video...

Before you ask, yes he is probably stoned in that video.

If the switches are plate mounted you have to desolder and remove them in order to open them.

If it is a plate that came stock with a keyboard then yes.  The only way to open plate mounted switches without desoldering is if you have a plate with extra cutouts around the switches.

Thank you guys very much! :thumb: I actually desodered and resodered the board back together and cleaned the switches with some 99% isopropanol alcohol and now they are smooth. Unfortunately due to do the spill the some keycaps were damaged. I recently ordered some from banggood (not sure if they are good or not or if there is some controversy in threads on this website, but sorry in advance).

Depends on my summer and how much time I have. With finishing up college, time has been scarce.

This summer I should only be working, with what I'm assuming, more time for projects like this.

Yeah I already use a flat head screwdriver to do this but it's messy when all the switches are mounted to the plate and it's hard to get to each one.
