Is there any reason why we cant combine a couple of ideas?

Well the problem with combining ideas is that it eventually gets overwhelmingly busy.
Remember, this would have to fit on a 1x1 cap and with too much detail, it could get weird.
Also, the more detail you add, the less and less it works with certain sets.

That looks like it says DA. It's supposed to be DT since it's DeskThority, and not DeskAuthority.

It wasn't aimed at anything else.
By watching the logo you can nearly hear the dialog in between the designer and the label manager:
"Arrheffff What the name of the band already?
- Gone Mode?
- Wasn't it supposed to start with a D?
- Grumfff ok put the two just in case.
- I heard the singer step mother was greek.
- Blurps ok let's make than M look like a phrygian stool."

This was about operating systems -- a key to replace "WIN" and all its many text-based spin-off legends.

Why are we making Geek Hack/Deskthority mash-up keys?

I don't know... Something about the window only key bothers me. I think having the thicker bottom bezel and power light seems like it would work better. But I think it would need less rounded corners.

OK, I get what you're saying, but how else do you capture the essence of "OS" and what that key specifically does in a symbol?

If it was easy one of the OEMs (probably Cherry) would have done it already.

I'm curious about a 'S' inscribed inside of an 'O'

really? not picking even one of my proposals? What a poll is that?

Btw prompt design showed it limitations, you now have the choice in between unix prompt (as popularized by NS and the OSX Terminal icon) vs DOS/Windows prompt... meh

Here is the one to fly over OSes :

I'm with you on this one, mecano. You want to hit Cmd-C on your Mac to copy something, and you have to press [terminal icon]-C?? Strange...

Polls are fine and all, but design by committee never works. Steve Jobs knew that you don't ask people what they want, you give them what they need and weren't aware they needed.
