Here is a simple mod I did in only a couple of hours. MUCH prefer the feel of plate mounted switches. Makes the poker feel like a mini Filco! :D

Still messing with the case to get it to fit right. Its a hair off.
and I am missing my space stabilizer, so I really need to get one of those : )

nice! what did you use to cut the plate? i've never been particularly good with either tin snips or hacksaws :X

I used a jigsaw with a PVC cutting blade oddly enough xD

he re-used an existing plate, as far as I can tell, the plate was only cut down to fit the poker profile... none of the switch cutouts needed (or should have been needed) to be modified.

LS, don't you need to drill holes for the screws to mount the PCB to the case?

The plate was from my broken Rosewill RK9000. All I had to do was cut it to match the Poker PCB. I didnt have to cut the PCB at all.
and eventually I wanna make it screw in like normal, but for now the case is held on by friction. Its REALLY tight though. In fact, I'm doubting I'm gonna be able to remove the case.
But, my case is kinda warped and messed up from trying to remove paint with acetone, so when I get a new case, Im going to drill proper screw holes. :D

Thanks so much for the plate idea. I was going to harvest the red switches from my RK-9000 for use in my Phantom when it gets here, and now I have a use for the Rosewill plate as well! If I could get an RK-9000 from Newegg for $64.99 shipped, like they had before, I would buy it just for more switches and the plate...

That's badass! the plate cut looks really good - you should just make a mounting plate case like Half Saint from DT. Show off that red plate!

how is your desolder suction tool? I got a cheap one on amazon that works well.... some of the time and not so well a lot of the time. I can bare with it for a few switches, but for an entire board, that would literally take me all day!
Oh and I definitely didnt like the flex with the factory poker either. I placed a 1/16 (or 3/32 inch.. cant remember) neoprene rubber sheet to fix that problem. No more flex and its feels rock solid, but I can still access my stems and springs easily =)

only problem is the back where I actually made the cut. It looks pretty crappy. I Might have to desolder everything so I can sand it down and paint it. There is also that little chip in the middle. Don't know how that happened.
and braaaiiins, My suction tool is pretty good. it does the job, but I have to clean it every 10-ish switches. It gets clogged pretty easy.

If you can't spring for something like a Hakko 808 then I suggest springing for the best manual solder sucker... Edsyn Soldapullt. It is BIG so it does a good job of thoroughly sucking out the solder.

If you don't want to spend an eff-ton of money, Radio Shack has a perfectly serviceable desoldering iron with a bulb for about $15. It automatically cleans itself with each squeeze of the bulb and the replacement tips (because you WILL mess up a tip) are only about $5 or less. I used mine to desolder 4 full-sized boards before the tip was totally destroyed. Beats the pants off how I used to do it (with the $18 plunger-style desolderer that requires a separate soldering iron and good timing).

I had that one, too. I made it through 3 full-size boards before the iron wouldn't heat up anymore. I tossed it and bit the bullet on the Hakko 808...it'll be here Tuesday, meanwhile 2 more boards sit taunting me with their switches still attached. :)

Sweet, that Hakko looks awesome, but that radioshack deal is hard to pass up! I'll definitely try that one.
