I was wondering if this case can house a Phantom Keyboard?

I'm fairly certain it can. I'll let you know for sure tomorrow morning though.

Cheers.

And so are we...

Regarding restock, we hope to have them in the coming month or two. We have an active order in for them, so just as soon as they are produced, they will be on their way to us.  :thumb:

What are the chances of a white case?
I'd be very excited it they had that colour as well!

Is there any way we can get notified when they come in stock? I've been keeping a close eye on them waiting for them to come back in stock.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Will it work with a Ducky Shine 3? It should fit inside the Vortex one (one guy said you need to file the plate a bit though).

The question has been asked a few times recently (including on a reddit AMA) and the answer has been that new stock is being manufactured, but the manufacturers have not provided an ETA.  Probably within a couple months.

The lack of interest on this makes me wonder if these have been restocked and sold out already, or if they have yet to be stocked.

We have still not heard any word on when the production will be completed. We apologize for the lack of communication, but we know nothing at this point. Our hope is that they will be restocked soon.  :thumb:

Good and bad news.

Bad news : The factory didn't even start production. Some issue came up and they didn't let us know until WE asked where the heck our plates were.

Good news : We've moved to the front of the line. We were quoted at "some weeks", which typically mean ~4 weeks. We were also able to add colors: black, gray, silver, blue, red, green, purple, and orange.

Great news about the new colors.  I'll be down for a silver or grey.

Hope they get enough stock to go around. Seems like a lot of people have been waiting for these.

Interested in the silver and orange.

Is there a particular Filco or Vortex TKL that works best with these? I assume Vortex is the "ONI" in this case.  :P

Could this case be used with a Novatouch TKL?

It would be awesome to put this into my silenced Novatouch.

Yeah, I'm fairly certain it was made to fit Filco/QFR/Ducky, etc.. I've had a vey hard time finding any other information on them in general though, with the exception of this thread.  I'm very much looking forward to getting one, I just have to decide on which color I want!

Doubtful, unless the DIP switches are in the same spot as the cutout.

I'm very interested in a TKL case, in case you have some kind of waiting list. :)

It does fit a Pegasus Hoof controller board, though?

It should since it fits a cooler mast QFR.

Hopefully they are making the tolerance of the gap (where the two halves of the case meet) tighter  :)

Well, I asked about the TKL case and he said, paraphrased, that they didn't have any in stock but were redesigning them this year. I took the opportunity to ask for slightly oversized key cutouts for custom keycaps and slightly oversized controller board space, but didn't hear back.

Highly doubtful...there is no indication that our plates will not fit the new cases. In fact they should. As for Leopolds, or some other brands outside of Filco, we can't definitively say what will fit until we have at least a sample in hand to try. Chances are good that the new batch will fit most TKL's. We will have to see.

What I can say is that the phantom will fit the previous case but the teensy is a little tight.

Good and bad news.

Bad news : The factory didn't even start production. Some issue came up and they didn't let us know until WE asked where the heck our plates were.

Good news : We've moved to the front of the line. We were quoted at "some weeks", which typically mean ~4 weeks. We were also able to add colors: black, gray, silver, blue, red, green, purple, and orange.

do you have any pictures of the purple or silver versions?

I don't see anything about TEX in the description either?   It does look better without that line where the two halves of the case meet.

I managed to get my hands on a new Tex case the other day. I would imagine it's the same ones that MK will be selling soon.

The plates sold by MK do fit inside the case, however, I feel like the case was designed for the Filco plate... possibly the majestouch 2 only. as the case has slots on the top and bottom for the metal tabs to go into to prevent the plate from moving around.

There are no screws to fasten the keyboard's switch plate to the case. The plate sits on a ledge inside the bottom portion of the case. If its flush enough, or has the aforementioned tabs, it won't move. Because the MK plate doesn't have those tabs and is too small... the plate does move around in the case. It may not be a huge problem.. but it is something to keep in mind.

I haven't received all the parts to finish my board yet... but when I do I'll be sure to update everyone on if it was a problem.

Here's some pics:

Whole case.. two pieces.

Pic without the plate... see the notches?

Nice.  Can you take a picture of the case bolted closed?  I'd like to see if they made the tolerances tighter where the two halves of the case meet together.

Also, for people using these for Phantoms.  You could try contacting Leslieann about these https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=45739.15

Whole case.. two pieces.

is there any molex cable from this pic?

There's a Filco molex cable included... but there's no mini USB port in the new version... There's just a hole for a cable to route through.

So it's not a detachable cable design?

Nope. You could get a Male to Female USB dongle and have that connect to the controller and stick out the back. Wouldn't be the prettiest thing but it'd work.

Nice.  Can you take a picture of the case bolted closed?  I'd like to see if they made the tolerances tighter where the two halves of the case meet together.

Also, for people using these for Phantoms.  You could try contacting Leslieann about these https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=45739.15

I forgot to take a pic of it put together. I'll have to do that. I can tell you though.. the tolerances seemed perfect to the human eye. The two pieces fit together and are snug.

Those Phantom adapters look interesting... I wonder if that would allow you to take a Phantom plate and make it have those tabs that stick out. I might have to look into that.

Yes, please post pics when you take some of the front/sides/back of the case  :)  Is there some kind of stress relief plug, or grommet to make that hole for the cable look clean?

As for the Phantom adapters.  She made them so Phantom plates would fit the older Vortex cases,  so they should work the exact same for these.

The area where the cable comes out is basically just a hole. There's a small indentation near the hole where I think they intended it to be a stress relief but I can't see it really working that way. You can kinda see what I'm talking about from my first pic above. Personally I'm not too worried about that... I think it'll still look pretty clean. I'm much more worries about my plate wiggling around in the case while I type. Were the Vortex cases designed like the Tex where it required a plate with the notches sticking out?

Yep, the Vortex case was made for the Filco style plate just like the Tex cases.

That's why those Phantom plate addapters should work.

Only been waiting a whole year for this.  Gonna go back to smashing F5 on the product page now.

I'm worring about quantity. I hope they would not out of stock in a minute.
it would have been better if preorder available.

anyway, are those phantom plate adapters necessary?
I was thinking about insert 3mm sound-proof pad + electrical insulation film between case and my phantom pcb instead of that.

Thanks for posting the pics.

Doesn't look like they made case fit together any tighter.  The gap where the two halves of the case meet still looks about the same.

And if they where going to take away the mini usb imput in the back, why would they just leave a big square hole?  They didn't include a rubber grommet, or something to make that open hole look neater?

How is the MK Disco going to fit into this case? seeing the Disco have detachable cable. Is there hole in the case to for the usb breakout board?

The MK Disco fits very well and you don't need the daughter board since the new cases come with a cable which plugs directly into the keyboard.  :thumb:

No. There have been changes to the channel inside the case, and that USB daughter board is gone. There is a through hole, and Tex provides you with a USB cable which can plug directly into the PCB.

Well, it makes sense from an RMA standpoint. Out of the last batch we received, we had 3 or 4 which had daughterboards that had problems from the word go...

Is there any elegant solution for securing a Phantom plate other than using some shims for foam? I thought about adding some stems with epoxy to screw the plate down but not sure how well that would hold long term.

Well,  we found  that once you crank the screws down on it it should  hold the plate in place

Yeah I can see that the more I tighten the more stable it gets. I don't want to over-tighten those bolts though. A user on Reddit posted a build log using something like neoprene that helped stabilize the plate. https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/4dggdu/building_a_phantom_fixing_a_g803700/

axtran also mentioned a material called Sorbothane which might be what was actually used in that post. I might give something like this a try as it looks like it'd improve the overall feel anyway.

Here it is, finally change the stock case for my 2012 Year of the Dragon Ducky. This keyboard is a bittersweet memory about a very nice person called Lin Taobao Agent. Once upon the time she was my go-to proxy then people had to be mean to her, all sort of nagging and Paypal charge-backs and she retired.

Be Warn: heavy pictures ahead.

Stock Case

Daughter board

Non-conductive tape

Some more non-conductive paper

Finally

Final result and leftovers

Because stock OEM caps are the best for MX Red

Thank you for the pictures. I ended up hot gluing the daughter board for my v80 at the top just like yours. Didn't really like plugging the usb directly into the board.

Nice, the hot glue obviously is not adhesive at all toward the aluminum, but it creates enough friction so when sandwiched between bottom case and PCB, the daughter board stays in place firmly. I even dabble a few hot glue spots on the top side.

actually it adhesive really well. i couldn't even pull it off. maybe its the glue i used or something.

i wonder if there is anything non conductive i can put between the keyboard pcb and the metal bottom? seems really loud when i type.

I actually embrace the loudness. With such a tight gap I think any shelf-liner would do the trick. 1 roll of shelf-liner from walmart/ikea could last you a good 30+ boards.

Ah, for someone trying this, it was 3mm polyurethane foam sheet. thickness of sheet must be between 2.5mm~3mm,
if thinner than this, PCB will not fixed on case, and thicker than this, case won't shut.

http://www.amazon.com/Polyurethane-Open-Cell-Firmness-Adhesive-Thickness/dp/B003VYAXW2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1460392022&sr=8-1&keywords=urethane+sheet
I found sheet like this on amazon, but remember that size matters.
Not Aka"MLG 360 NO SCOPE GET REKT" either.

I got the new case! pics incoming

Would really love to see the pics.   Just need to know for sure that this is the one that MK.com will be getting.

It is. We received a partial shipment and filled some orders already.

How is the MK Disco going to fit into this case? seeing the Disco have detachable cable. Is there hole in the case to for the usb breakout board?

The MK Disco fits very well and you don't need the daughter board since the new cases come with a cable which plugs directly into the keyboard.  :thumb:

I'm just now discovering the Disco.     You say it works with this case?  That's awesome.  I assume the Disco has a USB daughterboard... correct?

If you're building a Phantom in one of these, just buy 70 Duro, 0.10" Sorbothane from Amazon. You won't regret how good it is. :)

Yes, Disco has a daughterboard, but the newest batch of Tex cases don't have a place to really put one, so you may have to improvise.
