Pokémon GO!
« on: Wed, 06 July 2016, 11:19:43 »
It's out in NA for Android PogChamp

Well, kinda. You gotta go download the APK online, but it works.

I tagged a bunch of locations for items on my way home from work and caught a few Pokémons.

Played it while on my daily walk. I think I might just lose a good few pounds thanks to this game. Have ordered a power bank to keep the phone charging while on the walk.

This game is going to kill some serious number of phone batteries.

LOL, I've been worried about the same thing but I think it will be fine as it's linked to my Google account. So how have you been faring? I feel like a Team Rocket Grunt, all I'm seeing usually are Ekans, Pidgey, Meowth, Zubat, etc. My office is infested with Ratata's, I keep getting one every other hour, just sitting at my desk. Best so far is a Persian CP 288.

I saw on reddit, someone got a Dragonite as their second encounter.

Lots of Pidgeys and Drowzees in Toronto. Rattatas too. I'll be taking over everything, don't worry.

Also for anyone getting to Level 5, TEAM BLUE

Make sure you go into "your pokemon" click the eggs section, and put them in an incubator. otherwise they wont hatch.

Hm, what are your guys' thoughts on it so far?

I've been distancing myself from the Pokemon franchise since the games have been more and more repetitive. Yellow and Crystal are my all time favorite Pokemon games, and seeing that this game (so far) only has 1st gen Pokemon, I'm thinking of trying it out.

Too late, I went yellow. I live in a pretty gang active area, yellow seemed like a safer option :P

My best so far is a 322 magmar.

can you battle?

Not yet, you can post a pokemon at a gym and you can battle those, but no direct PVP.

Well you can battle for land grabs at gyms.  attacking is active, and defending is passive.

But you can't just battle a dude walking down the street.

From what I gather as of now its just catching pokemon? Can you level them up and battle others? How do you get more pokeballs?

Feels like an alpha to me. So far it's been constant crashes, lag & server issues. Probably going to give it a week to see how much has been improved. On the bright side my office is literally on top of a gym.

I walked around on my lunch break, found a zubat which took like 6 tries to catch. About 100 feet away, I see a bunch of teenage guys with their phones out. I asked them if they were playing Pokemon too, they all laugh their asses off and as I'm walking away I hear one guy say "I TOLD you he was playing pokemon go" hahaha

It worked once for me this morning. I woke up to a Bulbasaur next to me. Once the servers stop crashing, this will motivate me to walk my dog more.

I was disapointed by the new game, I couldn't see anything special about it and to me it's not fun at all. Apparently thousands of people around the world are enjoying the game but for some reason I couldn't. After downloading it and messing around a bit it didn't feel like an actual game, it's more like a camera/geolocation simulator of some sort. I wish we could at least fight other people and friends like we did with the Game Boy version, or at the very least progress in the game somehow. In my opinion the app is nothing beyond a VR Pokédex simulator that was poorly executed. For now I deleted the app but I hope that they implement some new features in the near future, or maybe develop it into something that ressembles the Game Boy experience, which was great. Perhaps my expectations about this release were set too high because the Pokémon games were relevant when I was a kid, or maybe the game indeed sucks and people are just hyped because a decent and somewhat official Pokémon app finally got released. Time will tell, because this thing has incredible potential, maybe even revolutionary, but if they don't somehow improve it people will soon get bored and forget about it.

Downloaded it, finally made a username, accidentally caught a Bulbasaur T_T

This reminds me of Ingress. Which means..I won't really be playing much if at all . Around my residence, heck even walking around out at work there's nothing but random blips of landmarks, no pokemon or anything. It's a great idea, just not good for me in a medium sized and sprawled out city :(

It's fun to try and catch people in the act who are very obviously playing Pokemon GO. I saw two people glued to their phones about to run into the walls at my local post office  :))
