1960's camera
« on: Thu, 03 December 2015, 16:50:23 »
I didn't see a "general" camera thread less than a year old so just wanted to share something I found at my grandma's that I was told was my uncles. From my "research" (Goggle search) Seems like a 1960's camera that probably is worth more sentimental value than cash money. Enjoy

Nice find! Although I prefer the Brownie Hawkeye, personally.

That looks like fun.  You should totally go shoot some awesome pictures with it.  The studio where I do my developing and printing has a show every year called the "Plastic Camera Show" that is all about awesome pictures taken with as cheap and basic/obsolete equipment as possible.  It has to be about the photographer when you are taking pictures with a leaky, vignetting, $20 holga.  https://raykophotocenter.squarespace.com/2015/2015/5/13/8th-annual-international-juried-plastic-camera-show

My old camera is too nice for the competition.  I actually use this as my primary camera these days.  I believe the serial puts it at 1953.

When I was a kid in the late 1950s, I got a "Brownie Bullet" and it served me magnificently for years. I don't know whether it shot color, because I only used black & white.

It even still worked great even in the mid-1970s when I found film for it (a plastic spindle that the paper-coated film simply wrapped around - loading and unloading had to be done in a dark closet or at night) and they still developed actual film.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

I always wanted a Rolleiflex. Do you develop your own?

I have a few old Polaroids, my favorite is an original SX-70 from about '72 or '73. It's nice that you can now get modern film for it, I just wish it wasn't so expensive.

My primary digital camera is a Samsung NX-300 which I'm only mentioning because it's got a great 60's/70's look.

Yep. Everything start to finish.  The only thing I still need to learn how to do and get some practice with is toning.  It's tough because selenium is so toxic that there are surcharges to use it and dispose of it.  Rolleis and other TLRs are really a lot of fun, and while the 2.8 versions are obnoxiously expensive, the 3.5s or Mamiyas are cheap. Mine is a 3.5 and I haven't really missed the half stop, especially as B/W film can be pushed out to hell (I've even had good results shooting Tri-X 400 at 3200).

The only real bummer is that I don't get to share the work that I'm proud of.  Scans wouldn't capture it.
