Keyboard repair gone wrong?!
« on: Thu, 03 November 2022, 22:51:49 »
Finally got around to trying to repair my redragon mechanical keyboard.
I think i narrowed it down to the green data + wire on the connector pin losing a good connection.
So I cut the wire back and put it in a new pin, keyboard works again.
The keyboard had intermittent connection prior, it just would disconnect when the wire would get jostled.
Tested all the keys prior to the wire repair, they all worked.
Repaired the wire, reinstalled all my key switches, a s d f g h j and caps lock no longer work.
I'm at a loss. No idea what to do now.
Did i **** something up when the PCB was exposed or could this be from my repair on the data + pin??

I'm a fool.
I scratched the trace running from caps lock  through J key.

Just for the record if anyone finds this thread consistently broken keys are always problems between the switches, diodes and the controller chip, USB problems would be random where pressing certain keys cause a disconnect and whatever keys you press next get missed until it reconnects.

In this case one jumper wire and the board will be good as new :)

I used some old LED wire to jump the connections I interrupted.
But accidentally filled in one or the pine for my A key with solder!
It's one thing after another 😭
Do I just heat up the metal and install the key switch while hot?
It's a hot swappable pcb if I didnt mention betore

You could heat it up then use a solder sucker to try and remove the solder, though if we're talking plastic hotswaps melting seems likely.  If it is these you shouldn't have been soldering anywhere near the switch pins, the tabs on the end of the socket are much easier and safer to solder to :(

It was an accident in the beginning trying to solder the board itself where the scratch was.
I dont think its plastic.
It looks like it's lead.
