I can't wait to see what this goes for. It is one of the few times I hope a cap will go for cray cray prices.

Did you ever to consider to actually add the cause for the sale on the page?
I don't actually know if this is a good idea or not but people are always happy to give more for a cause.

The one time where I'll be hoping people bid early and often!
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

I'm glad I didn't put a reserve now. I was concerned it'd get to like $375 and not make a $400 reserve and make me have to relist and all that.

$395 already, however.

Damn, hope it goes higher, but the Clack market always disappoints me because of outrageous after market prices.

No I didnt realize that at all. I thought the bid high thing was a joke as was displayed in other auctions for similar items. What cause does it go towards?

That's like hoping for a Ferrari 458 Italia to sell for $2000, it's not going to happen.

Clacks are ONLY for the absolutely committed individuals who think of nothing about going in all the way up to their necks, when it comes to Ebay bidding on these.

These are the people in the event of a home fire, would first run in to save (not their kids or wife or family dog)  only their Clack collection  :thumb: .

Hope this Clack goes into the $600+ territory because it deserves to  8) .

Good luck on the Sale not only because it's a Tri-Colour (rare as hen's teeth) but it's for a GOOD cause.

It is all good everyone. No harm done, imdabaron; people are bidding early! I knew there were going to be questions, and whoever the donors were obviously know their clacks and the current market, so none of this is exactly shocking.

I'd like to think that people are just putting their max bids in early and letting it fly instead of "sniping" (that is what it used to be called, iirc) at the end. Whether that is because they know the story or not, I don't know.

I chose not to put the "charity" info in the listing because I wanted to keep that just within my GH fam. Plus there are probably hoops to jump through on ebay, and we aren't an official charity. I started out with it just as a t-shirt design help/contest because I needed help from some geeks, but it snowballed into a much bigger giveaway plus now all these letters, packages, donations, etc. Love is love.
My wife I a also push her button . But now she have her button push by a different men. So I buy a keyboard a mechanicale, she a reliable like a Fiat.

Whoever currently has the high bid set their max bid pretty high, so it looks legit. If it was going to be a buyers remorse situation then they would have been going back and forth, got caught up in the bidding and over spent. I'm guessing it is someone who knows what is up, and willing to put down a little extra.

If they do end up backing out, that would be super crummy, but at least you could relist it! With my limited experience, I can say that most people do pay. It is the ones with no feedback you have to worry about.

Okay. Thanks as usual, inanis. You're my besty.

Also... I've gotten quite a few PMs from people asking me to pull the listing and just sell it now. I understand why people would want that.

I'm just going to reply to you all publicly (without naming names) that I don't believe this to be kosher with ebay, general forum trading, and me on a personal level.

I really appreciate your interest and desire, so please feel free to just bid on ebay @ that max price. Nobody is twisting your arm to go higher than that (but please do anyways). :D

Watch out for the winning bid when 'they' only have less than 10 feedbacks off Ebay.  They're the ones that will run away so make sure the winning bidder has at least 300+ positive rating so you know you'll get the money with no drama.

This is the only time I have seen a clack on ebay and want the bidding to go higher.

It's a Tri-Colour Skull hence the bidding is according to rarity here.  YES this has to hit $1000USD because it would be justified to the extreme  8) .

Let's all pray the buyer pays...

For something of this size and value, do you think it's worth it to video yourself taking it to the shipping place, verifying contents, taping it up, and giving it to the shipper?  I only ask because there have been those who said (legitimately or not) that the package arrived empty.

It is going in a sealed envelope then in priority box with tape ALL over including overlapped so it is tamper proof.

I know YOU are going to package it well, I don't mean that.

What I mean is, what's to keep sby from opening it, taking out the Clack, and claiming that it arrived without the Clack?  I've just seen the way the artisan game affects some people's morals....

I have video and pics in case someone tries to take advantage. A few people warned me to do so via PM.

It might be worth insuring the full amount and requiring a signature for delivery.  It adds $15-20 to the shipping price, but with something that expensive, I'd say it's worth it to ensure that you aren't taken advantage of if the person decided to be shady.

Insurance will do nothing. I spoke to both USPS and UK couriers about this, and they said that for something like a collectors item (e.g a clack or rare keyboard) the chances of getting a claim were next to nil.

In most TOS for insurance it will say something along the lines of 'market value must be easy to ascertain', and a single ebay auction doesn't fall under that.

The best thing to do is box the clack multiple times, each one very well sealed, video yourself packing it in the post office and continue videoing without cuts until the tracking number is visible on the receipt.

I bet they have no problems with accepting peoples money for insurance that would be useless from the start. But then again it really is up to people to read that sort of stuff, even though that information can be lost in a sea of other seemingly pointless information.

When the Model M Industrial keyboard I got from the US arrived damaged, I put in a claim with the forwarding company (different to shipping of course) they paid out the $180 USD (total package value had other stuff in their also) value of the package. Although this wasn't easy to do. Firstly the only method of contact was to type in a word into the search for answers page which kept defaulting back to the original page when you hit enter. So I searched them on facebook and made contact with one of their departments which sent me an email address. I contacted that email address and they advised me that I had 7 days from date of receipt to package to lodge and gave me another email address. I contacted that email and provided all the information photos etc and they sent back a generic email asking for almost 1000 photos of the item, the labels, the box, the packaging material and detailed description. This was about day 5 by the way. They then approved my claim and it took about a week to get my money for the item.

Out of curiosity I just checked their website and they have sorted out the contact issue, I may consider using them again if the need arises.

tl;dr theoretically there may be some company which would provide cover for an item like a really expensive key cap. Because seriously who in their right mind would think that an old keyboard would be worth more than $20.

All in a good cause :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
