What's up with the sharks?
« on: Sat, 19 December 2015, 10:06:06 »
I keep seeing people's avatars being changed from what they used to be, to that avatar being eaten by a shark. Why is that shark so common?

I think it was in the events of the 2014 celebrity nude photo hack (also known as "The Fappening" ... ) that it was said that one of the female celebs' password had been "girlshark" and that another girl celeb's password had been "wizbro". One member here googled "girlshark" and found an image that he started used as avatar.
It spun off from there.

But the especially large number of shark avatars right now ... is because of this giveaway.

I didn't know this history. I just figured Halverson was making up words.

So what is the shark actually from? Does anyone know?

I know this thread is recent, but I thought maybe the story of how the shark originally started made sense and fit the timeline... Did I just get taken for a ride?

There's no history other than I chose an avatar, a dude made my church. We've had fun playing with my avatar years ago. Every once in awhile we like to do this to bring fun and cheer. About a dozen of us have been waiting all week to have some fun.

The giveaway? I don't like forcing an avatar change, it's not supposed to be like that. We just hoped that all who wanted to be silly sharks for the weekend would want a gift :)

It's a small shout out to the days of old, where moose wasn't banned and inlikeflynn frequented the forum(he made the pamphlet).

Sorry for the rant! Any more questions may be answered. I'd prefer everyone to just do what they want, do what's fun. If this whole thing annoys you, I'm sorry, lay low till Monday.

frickining newbs asking newb question....I've been here for over three years, I don't even know what the shark is about.  I even met Halverson at Keycon 2013.

In other news, a significant portion of the last three years of my life have been on a keyboard forum.
Wish I had some gif or quote for this space, but I got nothing

frickining newbs asking newb question....I've been here for over three years, I don't even know what the shark is about.  I even met Halverson at Keycon 2013.

In other news, a significant portion of the last three years of my life have been on a keyboard forum.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

The source image is from Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer according to google but halvy says it's from dorohedoro so idk.

It's also used as a logo for a video encoding site for questionable content.

Acquisition of reading material accomplished. Now to see if I actually ever read it.

Lucifer is fun as all hell, I need to re-read it. Doro is unique and probably one of my favorites ever.
