[IC] GOS- 65% keyboard ** UPDATED 2021/01/09**
« on: Tue, 15 December 2020, 20:34:43 »
First of all, we want to say thank you for all of you who have filled out the IC form ealier. Your feedbacks and suggestions make us improve our product in order to get more affordable. Therefore, I would like to represent to you, improved design of us, still called GOS – God of Sea, but the weight and side profile have changed, also eliminate gasket option from the design.

Right now, there is only "bottom – oring" mounting option as showed

***** What has been changed?
Weight design: a simpler engraved trident rather than raise graphic like before

Side profile: changed to an elegant curve compared to 3 sharp curves like before

Front view: I have reduced the screws size in order to get rid of exposed holes like before, we no longer see those screw holes

USB cut out: fit and very fit

Material weight option: aluminum and brass depends on kit

Material plate options: same as weight

Logo: will be engraved on as showed, both top part and plate, pcb

PCB: add daughterboard so the usb port will be that small

 Price: more afforable

Quantity: 30 units for Raffle (15 for standard and 15 for premium)

Raffle: and only in Raffle, number will be engraved on top of the logo, as showed on top part

 Colour:

Layout: have divider to separate arrow keys from others as showed

Anything else: No >>> Really?

Absolutely not, Price for in-stock raffle:
Standard kit: $380 --- Storm Gray Case, Blue Graphite Weight and Plate, fully alu assemble, PCB with daughterboard, screws, feets, orings, gaskets
Premium kit: $450 --- Blue Graphite Case, Sandblasted Brass Weight and Plate, PCB with daughterboard, screws, feets, orings, gaskets

This one is the final design, and we are working with the manufacturer to get 2 prototype in next few weks. We have created another IC form, which is for this desgin, and we are glad if you can fill our form again.

Thank you

OLD CONTENT:
More
INSPIRATION:
I have always inspired the myths in Greek with all types of God. And Poseidon is my favorite god, who control the Ocean with the Golden Trident in his hand. That’s how I brought it into my design. The bottom weight is made with the tides symbolic for the ocean, and the trident is rising up from the water illustrate for the power of the person who control it.

MANUFACTURER
As those who have followed us, you will know us as a designer of Zodiac keyboard. It is not successful because of many reasons (the way of design, qualities of products, manufacturer, QC, etc.). That is a failure for the first design, and we know what we can do in this project and We found a right manufacturer that satisfied our requirements.

WHAT MAKE US DIFFERENT??
O-ring and Gasket are the most popular mounting systems in many keyboards today. For us, we bring both of them into one that called Gas-Ring.

Specification:
•   65% keyboard.
•   6061 6063 aluminum
•   Soldered type-C Pcb (support only ANSI, 7u and 6.25u bottom layout, stepped caps lock, split backspace).
•   Black case More colors added to IC form, yellow weight (aluminum for weight only for now), Brass weight
•   7 degree
•   Gas-Ring mounting systems
•   Plate option: MX switch support, full/half flex or half plate (yellow anodized aluminum only for now).
•   No blocker at the bottom row. UPDATED

Error and fix:
The gap between keycaps and the inner top piece boundaries is too big. So, we are planning to fix it and it will no longer an issue when it releases. And that the only problem we had on prototype.

Public Groupbuy running:
•   We will do raffle sales 50 kits; serial number will be engraved inside the case (it might not happen if the price for engraving is too high).
•   All kits will be on our hand first before doing raffle, which mean you will get case right after your payment.
•   Time: TBD (but properly at the end of Jan 2021).
•   Price: TBD but range from $450-$550
•   Future Sales: TBD.

NEW IC FORM: IC LINK

Additional questions and answers:
•   Daughterboard? Not this round
•   Alps support? No.
•   ISO layout? No.
•   Shipping from? Toronto, Canada
•   Payment method: Paypal, E-transfer (only accept within Canada)
•   Shipping fee? You need to pay for it
•   Paypal fee? Same as shipping cost, you need to pay for it.

Sorry if I didnt get you at the first question. You mean why the mounting point is located near by spacebar?

The second question : I can say that it could be dust , seams are really smooth.

O-ring and Gasket are the most popular mounting systems in many keyboards today.

No. They're the most hyped.

Gas ring? This is just another variation on gasket. All gasket means is there is a form of dampening on the mount - this looks a lot more like bottom mounted oring. I do not understand why people are trying to make things up. The idea is good, but don't come up with an arbitrary name for it  :p

Just a few things though:
  • Why do you have foam under the tabs not being supported by the small orings? I can't understand why that exists if you have the orings in place already
  • Keep your plate mounting tabs away from the spacebar! preferably, plates should mount outside of the spacebar stabbed area, it helps the spacebar sound significantly

That being said - $450+ for a 6061 alu case is very, very sus. There is no brass in this board at all either. Even at 50 MOQ...

Thanks for your notes. Couple few things that you asked for, I do thought about it . At first , we are planning to do 2 in 1 keyboard, which means people can choice between O-ring or Gasket. But I found it too complicated and ignore that idea . The foam that right under the spacebar came from 2 in 1 keyboard, based on the old design of the plate to prevent contacting metal to metal. However, it is not an issue anymore , I will cut it off that mounting point from the plate and do a bit adjustment on top piece.

The second suggestion: thanks for that advise. However, did you hear the sounds test? Personally if the problem come from sounds, I think it will be fine.

(Attachment Link)
for the price , I still work on it with the manu to get lower price. thats why I havent known yet. As responsing form manu, one  of the reasons to make its high cost is because the raised graphic, it is not engraved, and the sides prifile has high chance of failures

the meme cuts like you said it is an optional of half flex, but I am considering making half plate instead of that. However, will see how good of it, I will put another sound test with that plate

Not to disappoint but I feel like he definitely can come up with an arbitrary name for it. In fact, he just did. Whether you like it or think it's clever or not is unrelated.

Gas-Ring? is it safe to inhale?
LOL. Totally not, you might get addicted when touching and inhaling it. TBH, I didnt expect it to be that good until I got the proto on hand. That's why I have waited until I got the typing feeling to have an IC post on here, not had a post earlier with a theoretical concept while they typing feeling might sus
That name is not a really new name. I admit that o-ring is a sub-type of gasket but in MK field, we assume gasket is foam and o-ring is different. I combine these two and must name it base on the elements. It isnt a new name that people have to remember. Just illustrate what system really is

Interesting mounting concept. Some questions/suggestions:

- Does the top case use the same gas rings as well?
- Will the gas rings hold the plate firmly in place such that when the board is shaken hard, it won't slide around?
- The USB C port will look nice if it is not a rectangular cut out
- What is the front height of the board?
- The stepped design of the lower case could be cleaner if it was a smooth curve

Hello there. thanks for your question and suggestion. here is my thought:

1/ those gasket that you saw at the bottom is no longer available. at the bottom, it has themselves only 8 O-rings ( as you can see on pics ). Top case will have 8 gasket foam at same location as bottom O-ring and there are no O-ring on top case. Basically, the plate will contact with top case by gasket and the plate will contact with bottom by O-ring. No metal contacting between Top- plate- bottom. I will update render pics to let you understand more clearly.

2/ I can confirm with you it firmly in place while flexibility always guaranteed :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
3/ I cannot remember exactly. properly ~16mm. I am at work now, will get back the exact number.
4/ I already though about it. however I think so many smooth curves outside there. I want to make somethings unique :D

Just curious, but could someone explain what's wrong with having mounting points under the spacebar? I've seen tons of other keyboads with plate mounting points near the stabs
