EU - Keeb.supply
UK - ProtoTypist
China - ZFrontier

Inspiration

DCS SMRT is inspired by the colorway of Wyse thin-client ("dumb") terminals from the 1980s-1990s. These were boards I ran across in various IT temp assignments right out of college at the turn of the millennium, and didn't appreciate at the time that I was tossing them into recycling piles. But DCS, and this colorway, have grown on me, and this run is motivated as much by appreciation as it is nostalgia, and regret for my actions as a 21-year old Y2K refresh temp.

But I don't want SMRT to just look backwards at the past; I want it to be vibrant, alive, and of the present, too. SMRT gives the option to sport a flashier, modern, colorful look, that rearranges the classic Wyse palette and promotes the original accent colors to a starring role. So you can stay mostly grey like the original, or throw in some vivid blue and yellow splashes.

Yes, the name is a Simpsons reference. But also a play on Wyse ("wise"... get it? Heh heh. Ahem.)

Note that these images are all renders, which may fail to capture the exact colors, font, and texture of physical keycaps. Void where prohibited, ask your doctor if renders are right for you, etc.

Colors
All colors are Signature Plastics stock resins, matched to the original Wyse colorway. Wyse's colors varied over time (and have yellowed to differing degrees in the ensuing decades), so there's no one scheme that will perfectly replicate every old Wyse board. This set based on the most common colorway that Wyse produced, that most people think of when they hear the name.

Alphas are GSX light grey. Modifiers are GTD grey. Navy legends and accents are BBI blue. Yellow accents and legends are YY yellow.

I'd like to thank Bob, Melissa, and Will at Signature Plastics for helping me make this happen. This is my second set released through them in just under a month, and I can't believe how lucky I've been in each instance. I know this is a well-loved colorway for many people, and I hope I've done it justice.

Not sure yet! I think when it turns to in-stock in late January, but I can double-check. SP is trying to get international vendors onboard as well, though they've been busy doing the same for Grand Budapest, so it may take a bit, if it happens at all. It's my understanding regional vendors will also offer the preorder price converted from USD, plus VAT and whatever other local fees there usually are.

Edit: I've asked for confirmation on the presale end date over on the SP Discord. I'll update as soon as I hear.

Keeb.supply, ZFrontier, and Divinikey will have their pages up soon, and I'll add the links once I have them. SP is still talking with some other vendors as well.

I bought straight from SP myself, but the more vendors the merrier! GL with this set Piperaceae, seems like it's selling well!

Thank you! If you did buy from SP before regional vendors became available, I believe Will has said you can just shoot them an email and say you'd like to cancel in order to buy locally instead. (Not just aiming this at you, but anyone else who may have done so. Working with regional partners is a relatively new thing for SP, and they've been adding more as they establish those relationships.)

There's a private GB being organized for matching 10u bars in GSX light grey. I don't know if it's kosher to link to it here, but it's in the Suggestions channel of the Signature Plastics Discord. The MOQ they're targeting is 10. If you want a matching 10u bar, check it out!

Sorry, the alt mods kit was the only place to put it, and that was already pretty big with all the OS mods. So unfortunately stepped Ctrl didn't make the cut.

Thanks for the heads up! I'd love a 10u space for this set, but didn't want to ask you to add it to the GB since I know it won't be a huge seller.

No problem, hope you managed to find the link! (I can DM you if you need it.) I did have a 10u bar in an early version of the kitting, but it didn't get much in the way of support in the feedback form, so I took it out. Since these are stock colors and anyone can do whatever with them, I'd love to see more small GB's for matching add-ons. I know a few folks were very vocal about wanting windowed Caps/Scroll/Num lock keys, and it'd also be neat to see some winged R4 mods.

I was able to find the form & send it in. Hmm a small GB for windowed keys & stepped R4 mods would be pretty sweet also! Might have to see if anyone I know would also be interested. Anyways thanks again for the heads up & hope you have a good Thanksgiving today bud!

Hey all! I've gotten word that the group buy effort for a 10u bar proved so successful, the 10u bar will be added to the SMRT listing on SP's website soon. Once it's there, you can contact Melissa to add it to your existing orders. Congrats to everyone who made this happen!

Production is starting soon, now that Grand Budapest R2 is complete! I found out today some of the same people who worked on the DCS caps for Wyse boards 30+ years ago are working on DCS SMRT, using the same legend molds and resin colors. (But new, updated machinery from 2021.)

Awesome news, super pumped for this set! Also that is wild there is people that were there back in the day when the OG Wyse sets were being made & are still there today! SP must be a great employer to work for!

FYI, there is a new IC for two more DCS SMRT kits: Colemak (or perhaps Colevrak) & Vim. The goal is to manufacture them concurrently with these kits if possible, provided there is enough interest.

Presale pricing will end by Friday! This is the last call for the earlybird price - this set is in production, and shipping by the end of the month!
