My finder started hanging up really bad when a file has a preview image in the columns version of the finder window. This is the only view I can handle using, by the way. I'll close all the windows and the process viewer still says my finder is at 118%.
Has anyone encountered this before? I am considering zeroing my partition and doing a complete re-install.

MacBook, 10.4.10, BTW.

did you check permissions?

If you are going to do that, might as well grab a copy of Leopard.

If I start saving now, I should be able to afford Leopard by, wall, never, so that isn't an option right now.

Can I zero my partition with out "F'ing" the nasty partition?

Not that I support this or anything...but get yourself one of the many free bit torrent clients. I'll let you figure out the rest. ;)

I like to pay for Apple stuff. Money is so tight right now, and just all of a sudden, so I can wait until February to buy a copy.

To catch you guys up, a little bit ago I had a bunch of heat problems with my MacBook, I took it in and got it checked. They cleaned it and said it was filthy inside. They put it back together and ran a hardware diagnostic and nothing was wrong. I got it back and it worked a lot better but it was still rough around the edges. I ****ed around with Ubuntu a bit and ultimately erased the harddrive and did brand new install of Tiger (still don't have Leopard). Now, after a about a month, I have my computer set up the way I like it again.
My point is this - now my computer runs 60 F degrees cooler! At the time, my 'Book just under a year old, and I normally use it at my desk and don't often take anywhere. If you have an MB or an MBP, get it cleaned at least once a year.

That's crazy. I just had my Thinkpad T23 all apart to replace the CPU heatsink/fan that had died. I KNOW this thing hasn't been apart for at LEAST 3 years...and it was near spotless inside.
I HOPE my MBP does not require frequent internal cleanings. That top case is flimsy and I don't think would hold up to being removed often.
