1. First Render

This is the first and only render of the set so far.
I’m by no means any expert in rendering or Blender. I’ll probably could do some basic stuff and I completed the Donut-Tutorial, but I think I would need help before this set gets to an [IC]-status.

So here, enjoy:

2. Google Form

https://forms.gle/TckPWfBAAJd2aD38A

You could really help me improving this set, by filling out this form.
It is open for around 2 weeks, from 04/29/2021 to 05/09/2021.
Of course, you could also comment on this thread, what you think. Here are some Question I have in mind:

1. What do you think?
2. Would you buy it?
3. What Kits do you need?
4. Do you like your modifiers with symbols or written (I’ll probably only doing one option)?
5. What ideas for novelties do you have in mind?
6. Do you like DSA or KAM better?
7. Do have any advice for me?

3. Introduction

This set is inspired by this:

267442-2 and this 267444-3 and this 267446-4

It is a complicated set with a lot of colors and even more complicated, when it comes to special layouts like Dvorak. So be aware that it might get expensive.
I tried, that even niche layouts could enjoy a non-standard (dark modifiers, lighter alphas) keycaps-set and designed the kits around every one of them. I also tried that if a key already exists in a set, (that you have to purchase anyway) it wouldn’t appear double in the niche-kit.

I’m aware that this set will get compared to the ‘SA 1976’ a lot and it is in fact inspired by it.
I just thought, there was room for improvement and a slightly different take on it.

4. Kits

These are all the kits I finalized so far and I think I covered almost every need one could have and which is possible with a more complicated set, like this.
So please let me know, if you miss something or if I got a key wrong.

All the NorDe and Southers folks, please look carefully at the specific kits and tell me, if I got everything right or you miss a key.

Also, Dvorak, Colemak, Mini Van, Split, Atreus, Alice and Ergo community: How do you like it? Is everything in the right place? Are the modifiers ok for you? I think I have to add another ‘B’ for Alice to the Ergo- & Atreus-Alphas & Mods

   a) (Standard) ANSI-Alphas

267448-5

   b) Standard-Modifiers

267450-6

   c) F-Row incl. Esc & Medias & F13 - 24

267452-7

   d) Numpad with 2 color Options, no Homing

267454-8

   e) Simple Numrow (save is save for NorDeUK & Southers)

267456-9

   f) NorDeUK + QUERTZ + Swiss

267458-10

   g) Southers + AZERTY + Canada

267460-11

   h)Spacebars Expensive

267462-12

   i) Spacebars Cheap

267464-13

   j) Dvorak & Colemak combined Alphas (Standard-Alphas required)

267466-14

   k) 40s & MiniVan-Modifiers + MiniVan-Alphas & Atreus-Modifiers (Standard-Modifiers required)

267468-15 or with Ergo-Mods 267470-16

   l) Ergo & Atreus-Alphas (& Modifiers) (Standard-Alphas required)

267472-17 or with mods, if they don't come with MiniVan-Modifiers: 267474-18

   m) Gamer (a Homing Kit for the gamers among us incl. AZERTY, Dvorak & Colemak-Gamers)

267476-19

   n) Homing incl. Dvorak & Colemak and FJ5

5. What Kits Do I Need-Chart

I made a chart, so you could see what you would have to buy, to get the right kits for your layout.
So here it is:

[ Specified attachment is not available ]

If you see any fault, don’t hesitate to ask and/or comment.
And yes I know there is a chart-option in GH, but I didn't get it to look like I wanted it. I need to figure that out as well.

6. KLE Pictures of Different Layouts

ANSI-104: [ Specified attachment is not available ]    ANSI-75%: [ Specified attachment is not available ]    ANSI-65%: [ Specified attachment is not available ]    ANSI-40%: [ Specified attachment is not available ]

Ergo/Split: [ Specified attachment is not available ]    Atreus: [ Specified attachment is not available ]    MiniVan/Planck: [ Specified attachment is not available ]

So you one could better understand, how the different layouts would look with this set, I made some Pictures with KLE.

Enjoy:

7. DSA or KAM – what to expect

I’m still unsure, whether to go for DSA- or KAM-profile, but I’m sure I want to go for PBT. And that brings a lot of upsides and downsides with it.
I attached some photos of a SP DSA Dye Sub- and a Keyreative PBT Dye Sub-keycap, to compare both.
I would go mate, if I choose the KAM-profile.

DSA:
+ super crisp Dye-job
+ good sound
+ overall good quality and edges
+ no language barrier

- pretty thin
- only darker colors legends
- no crazy colorful dye-jobs
- not a lot of colors to choose from

KAM:
+ crazy colorful (reverse) dye-jobs
+ pretty thick
+ I think I can type better on them

- language barrier
- dye-sub legends aren’t as crisp as the SP ones
- OK sound
- sharp edges

8. A RAMA I could imagine

If it ever gets to a collaboration with RAMA I could imagine something like that.

[ Specified attachment is not available ]

Just a crazy thought I had in mind for quite some time.

9. A cable I already made

Well, that’s a cable I already made with MDPC-X Small XTC and Techflex Carbon in matching colors for this keycap-set.

10. Deskmats

Where do all these [GB]s get their deskmats from and who produces them?

11. FAQs

1. Do you know it looks like 1976?
Yes, I do know and it doesn’t

2. Why don’t you go GMK?
I like non-sculptured profiles better and a different profile for every row would mke this set even more complicated and expensive

3. why don’t you go ABS and choose from more colors and Two-Shot legends over at Singular Plastics?
I just don´t like the feel of ABS and shine on this set would look even worse.

4. Why don’t you just leave some keys out, like the media ones?
I really want to make a set, that makes everybody happy, who buys it. I own a few different keyboards and game-/macropads and I often miss keys like that (Medias, F13-24, unusal Spacebars or modifiers without legends)

5. Just leave Dvorak and Colemak and just make the set cheaper!
I don’t use Dvorak, Colemak, Planck or Split myself, but I really think these peole should enjoy a non-standard set as well and would love to make them happy. As long as these sets are somewhat separated, I think it’s ok for everyone. I just hope this set matches their taste and gets enough attention, so these sets will get produced.

6. Why didn’t you make a separated ISO-UK kit or separated the Ergo and Atreus kit, so it gets cheaper?
I want that every kit gets produced and everybody, who wants this set is able to buy it.
Yes it would make this specific kit, which you want cheaper, but it also would make it more expensive for everybody else. Just because you are lucky and don’t need a niche-kit or your kit gets enough attention, please don’t be rude to others and help them and this community to get what they deserve.

7. These novelties... Are you gonna do some others?
Yes, I’m going to. These novelties are just for a quick imagination, what they could look like.
I’ll probably go with less 420- and Hippies-stuff and more with supergraphics (like lines, circles,...) and words.

8. Wow, this set is gonna be expensive!
I guess so, but I don’t hope so. I dont’t want to make any money out of it.

9. DSA is so much better!
OK! Could you please explain this?

10. KAM is ultra hyper cool!
OK! Could you please explain this?

11. Would you consider XDA or ZDA?
Yes maybe considering, but I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be DSA or KAM.

12. Do you know this set looks like ‘SA 1976’?
Mmmhhhmmmm

13. Have you ever seen this 70s set from SP?
What? Nah – oh – wait – ah – you mean 1976? Nah, never heard of that!

12. To Do-List before [IC]

So, I hope you like this set and I could make it at least to the [IC]-status.
This is what needs to be done by me, before I can star an [IC].

-   Evaluate Google Form
-   Evaluate all the comments (I hope there will be a lot)
-   Fix the kits according to the feedback
-   Work on the novelties
-   Decide between DSA and KAM according to the feedback
-   Try to get these renders going or get help
-   Render all this stuff

Thank you all for your attention and your feedback!

O lord, all this effort, all this kitting, and a cable?!?!?
My god you are prepared, I would suggest going with Kam though as iirc a bit more friendly with a crap ton of kits and friendlier with MOQ
As soon as you get novs and some renders done, go straight to IC. Although if you want more feedback and kitting feedback, might wanna go to keycap designer discord where there are plenty of people willing to help you.

Thank you for the praise.
I will look into the discord server, soon.
With KAM there is the problem, who to contact for it as well
