This is a cool project. My only point of concern is putting a USB port hole in the middle of a piece of material that is going to be polished.
Valid concern, thank you - I spoke to one manufacturer and they got back to me saying that things were fine, but the small engraved lettering on the inner-face of the weight would not be polished. Since they mentioned this and not the port, I think I'll test my luck and see how the proto goes.
I like the logo. It reminds me of the Eclipse 70% (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=104755.0) in IC
Interesting choice eliminating brass from the plate materials. I would probably go with pc or fr4 myself but have you given any consideration to POM or carbon fiber?

Thanks for your input. I had considered the idea that people may draw similarities to other boards with moons on them - funny enough, I had not been thinking of the Eclipse keyboard but the Moon TKL that people would become privy to:
https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=90037 (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=90037)
That being said, I wanted to ensure that I do not intend to 'copy' or 'rip off' any ideas. I want to emphasize that searching Google for "moon vectors", "moon phases", etc will return a the fairly universal "moon phase" diagram that these all feature. On the other hand, I did not want to make the moon the primary theme of this board, but the PHASES. It is just the moon that 1. serves as a pretty nice symbol for phases, and 2. is painted on my wall. I have considered using a silly engraving of an ice cube melting, but felt I wanted to keep things a bit more elegant and relevant to my own history.
I hope this clears things up! Not trying to come off as defensive, just wanted to give a bit more insight into the reasoning behind the board's theme.
oh totally! I didn't mean to insinuate that at all. The Eclipse was just the first thing that came to mine. FWIW this board doesn't remind me of that one in any other way but the moon phases logo. Plus it's not so similar that it appears to be a rip-off in any way. Also, this design looks to be MUCH better executed that the Eclipse. And yeah... nobody owns the moon. That's just silly.
Also, this mounting style is soooooo nice. Love that you wanted to try something different and the gasket placement here just sounds like it'll make sense. Excited to have some sound tests for differences in plate with and without flex cuts!
I appreciate it - though it is going to be super experimental, so I wouldn't call it nice yet :P

that's half the fun of it - a lot of what drives me personally in this hobby (and i'm sure others feel the same way) are the new and innovating things, especially with how typing feel is experienced in the end. I don't want another standard 6 poron gasket strips or top mount (even those these boards stand to be amazing), at least right now. With such a large influx of people, this creativity is gonna be fun no matter what.
Experiment away!

I have not planned to include brass plates by default due to their stiffness, but may consider adding it as an add-on. I will do some testing with a brass plate first and determine whether or not it's worth submitting a bulk order for. :thumb:Concrete plate PagChomp
if not, plate file would be dropped after so you can go have a plate made out of brass, pom, concrete, w/e

I'm 100% down to go in on a concrete plate now. o.o
The new mirror polish looks amazing, don’t sweat the name change, keep up the awesome work!
eh might as well change the name to "basic" because that new design is basic af, honestly I think you could think of other names where the lunar phases logo will still work instead of just giving up and straight up abandoning it. Lot's of people got attracted to this board initially because of that design.

Would really love to see this in ANSI. Definitely would cop.You mean WK maybe ? Because it seems very much ANSI to me already.
wait you're running two ICs at the same time? somewhat discomforting... whats the rush? you could always run one after the other. maybe you'll get some other inspiration along the way too

No real update other than that Prototype 2 is finished (just waiting to be shipped). However, I figure I should address this 'concern':wait you're running two ICs at the same time? somewhat discomforting... whats the rush? you could always run one after the other. maybe you'll get some other inspiration along the way too
I don't see the issue, and this is after a bit of consideration (knowing that there is a certain, somewhat unwarranted, stigma against having more than one IC up at a time). I'm not running two GBs at the same time, and I'm definitely not going to sit and stare at the same project every moment I decide to work on a keyboard. There is no rush - one project would be 'run' after the first is fulfilled / complete. It's just an IC, there's nothing running other than a thread to take in feedback / publicity & gauge demand while I wait for things to move.
Plus, after looking at this side profile for so many hours and getting sick of it, it's helpful to work on something else that has a different design language. Then, after getting tired of looking at that ... I switch back and the excitement for the first design is restored lol
On the last bit, regarding getting inspiration along the way.... since I've just dipped my toes into case design, I have to say, I am way too excited to create more and have so many ideas and inspirations already in the queue that I'm holding back from putting onto paper ^-^

Damn...! He was the only one that had your back in your IC and you do him like this... if the guy wants to run two ICs, let him! As long as he ain't cutting corners, right?

It's remarkable the ammount of effort you're putting into this, the flex on the plastic plates is kinda worrying, it almost looks that is suspended with springs hahahaha
It's me or the PP plate sounds SUPER DEEP? Or maybe is because of the switches?
any estimates for the price or when it drops? Also, do you have a discord? Really don't want to miss this. Do you have already know what the supported layouts will be? If not, please consider adding a split 7u space for the WKL option, it'd make it a must buy for me.
Possibility of pom plate?
Possibility is there..!
Added one more sound test to the album with my person favorite 'clacky' switches: Cream stems in Gateron Milky (Black bottom) housings, on Polypropylene plate: https://soundcloud.com/user-453131246/moment-polypropylene-plate-milky-creams/s-jCVsH1um1uW
thanks
i can't understand how using a vendor may decrease the price.
you can have higher quantities, and then a lower prices from the supplier.
but the seller will add his gain.
how many of them you think you will sell alone?
and how many using re-seller?
moving from 10-30 up to 100-150 will decrease the price a lot.
can't say the same moving from 100-200 to 1000.

Double digit units if I were to run it myself (for safety reasons), and if working with a vendor we can presume the vendor margin would just come out of have gone to me, since I'd do much less logistical work!
Any updates? As I heard the board had a private run on Discord. Will there be a public GB?
looks nice and very interested :)
I am not trying to doubt your ability to organize multiple GBs, but I am on the fence on run this GB before the fulfillment of cloudline.
I understand the decision to start GB asap before materials get (even more) expensive, Im just a not fan of running more than one keyboard GB at once.

Can you please add an exploded view? It is difficult to gauge weight thickness and volume from those pictures. Keyboard IC should always have an exploded view

Cloudline is in CannonKey's hands now. Justin isn't running the fulfillment of that GB.

I would guess there will be vendors for all of the major regions.
Q: Split space support / ISO?
QuoteQ: Split space support / ISO?
How did this plan out? Is there going to be split spacebar support?
Hi folks
I expect for there to be vendors for most major regions. I'll be adding regional vendors to the main post when I've confirmed with them.
Since I'm bumping anyway, here's a build stream of an earlier run of Moment! Big thanks to lulzthax for sharing the VOD. However, this uses an alternate PCB (Moment is compatible with many universal 60% JST PCBs) as well as features some finishes that won't be offered in the GB.
Thanks.

Oh no

treeleaf probably started designing a board, got a couple of quotes, and now he thinks he knows the manufacturing costs of every board he sees on geekhack

I want :p
Glad its finally happening, I do hope I will have the cash in time.
Howdy sir, I don't want to get into any specifics about speculation on pricing, but there is a really big miscalculation in your estimate - I can confidently say that even if this group buy performs exceptionally (which is not a guaranteed bet with the current state of the keyboard market), the number you've reached is several multiples way too high. Just wanted to address the comment vaguely, so folks won't feel they are paying an unfair price.
got to try one of these yesterday, cannot hype it up enough. really great sound, typing experience, and aesthetic
I am 100% happy with my Moment. I wish you luck on the full GB! wish I had extra funds for that purple but I'll be sitting this one out and waiting on the derivative.
What extra plates would you recommend getting?
I personally am a huge fan of the full polypropylene - it feels the most well-rounded of all the plate options IMO (totally subjective).

Heya Justin,
Mispasted here, the EU proxy is Mykeyboard (the discord link is ok tho) ;)
Cheers
I love the side profile of this keyboard, but I wish the bottom weight could've been a screwless design.
Does the base kit come with the Gasket Kit and Dampening Kit or do I need to purchase them separately?
Hello everyone!
Some announcements and updates on the upcoming buy beginning this Saturday.
0. To reiterate, the sale will be opening at Cannonkeys this Saturday, 11AM ET. Check with your vendors for more specifics on their sales! IMO, the best place to get instant information for this would be vendor Discord servers (list below). I will be updating this thread when I have the confirmed times for all regions.
In the meantime, I'd suggest keeping up to date or directing vendor-specific questions to the following:
- US: Cannonkeys (https://discord.com/invite/DKpykqYKAe)
- CA: Deskhero (https://discord.gg/2utk39S)
- EU: mykeyboard (https://discord.mykeyboard.eu/)
- UK: Prototypist (https://discord.gg/qm944aC)
- AS: ILUMKB (https://discord.gg/52kkJ28)
- AU: Switchkeys (https://discord.gg/switchkeys)
1. Because the full polypropylene plate was a core element to the original run of Moment, Cannonkeys and other participating vendors will be adding the option for buyers to upgrade the base kit's plate option from FR4 to full polypropylene. This way, full PP enjoyers will not have to pay for a whole extra plate and leave the FR4 plate to waste, instead just opting for the upgrade. Please check with your designated regional vendors for the specifics on this.
2. Due to a slight delay in latest prototype units arriving, in addition to prior-planned scheduling, build streams (alexotos, LightningKeyboards, Lulzthax) will be most likely be coming during the first week of the buy (Oct 1 - Oct 7). This means there will not be the typical array of content leading up to the sale date. To look at it with a glass half full, that basically guarantees anyone that has been following this project for a while and is interested in picking one up will get their board! That being said, there's a ton of media for this board online (thanks to that R0 run!): https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=moment+jjw
3. To clarify, the hotswap PCB is a fixed layout. Tsangan bottom row, split right shift, split backspace, full caps. Solder PCB is Tsangan bottom row, options for split right shift, split/full backspace, stepped/full caps. Plates are similar - ISO users, split space users, etc. should have custom plates cut later on. These layouts are not supported by the stock PCB, but Moment is fully compatible with PCBs like the Wilba WT-60 (with JST), and Hineybush H60 (default JST position). Plate files WILL be released closer to fulfillment date.
4. Here's a quick shot of the two colored prototypes I recently got in-hand.

Excited to get this ball rolling! Any unanswered questions, please feel free to ask.
Wait, disregard previous post. What happened to 1st October? I don't see any links anywhere, checked a couple vendors like MyKeyboard and nothing on their GB sites either
That being said, the gasket strips are included in the kit, but the dampening kit is a separate addon (case foam, plate foam, and pcb foam).
Is there something that keeps the plate centered or can it move enough to touch the metal of the case on its sides?

That's good to know. Is there a sound test available with all of the dampening foams installed? It seems like none of the sound tests linked in the thread utilized foams and am curious how it'd sound. Thanks!
