As these haven't shown up on Originative yet (no rush), can I request that you post here when they are available? That way those of us waiting for the thick lubes will get a push/email notification about it, instead of obsessively checking the website  :-)

Thanks!

i completely forgot to pack them with domos. however, they are on their way to originative right now. will arrive tomorrow. if they get there early enough, they should be in stock by end of day. if not, will be in stock tomorrow.

Any update on the thick lube kits? I've been checking the website every day but the status hasn't changed.

(Why did http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=51182.50 get locked?)

Is this thick kit also recommended for use on stabilizers, or is something else more appropriate (better / just as good but cheaper)?

You could use Superlube on the stabilizers.

I used Krytox GPL 201 since I had it on hand, but most lubes will have similar effects if you don't overdo it as far as stabilizers go.

Yep, Krytox is King so instead of waiting for Sherryton to do anything I went and bought 3 injection kits from i3oiler.  Why you might ask, simply because i3oiler STILL accepts Paypal payments with no issues or troubles.  That is why I now have to shop at his place due to Sherryton's 'meanness' towards not accepting Paypal payments anymore (and I have never caused any call-backs on him ever).

Just some people change their payment system on a continuing basis which is always suspect and strange to say the least.  Whilst i3oiler is rock solid 100% reliable and just shipped all my goods 3 hours after payment - always been a star performer when distributing his gear to anyone all over the globe  :thumb: .

Sorry to spruik someone else here but Sherryton has let me down major league by dropping all Paypal payments and it has to be said  >:( .

Why is extra thick lube more expensive than thin and thick?

Maybe because the grease component is more expensive than the oil component? Or maybe it's a huge conspiracy! Down with the Ming!

Things are always more expensive through a reseller they have to pay the website bills, etc.

That doesn't explain why thin and thick at techkeys is way cheaper than extra thick at techkeys

Extra thick lube requires more thick grease (I assume +25%) like GPL-206 or even GPL-207 so it should be more expensive.

Forgive my ignorance but what is the use for extra thick lube? I thought thin was for linear switches, thick was for tactile. Is extra thick for stabilizers or something?

My understanding is that extra thick can actually increase the tactility of switches by applying it to the stem arms, increasing stiction.

I bought 3 sets of the thick Krytox and love it so far. Used one in my HHKB 55G and one in my Realforce 87U 55G/45G.

Yes, since it's very thick, you can use it for Costa stabilizers (Cherry stabilizers may require thin formula) IMO, extra thick formula should be used for very heavy linear (MX Black, Red + Spring >= 100g) or tactile with heavy spring (stock Clear, Dark Grey...) while thick formula should be used for normal linear (stock MX Black, Red...) and thin formula for tactile with light spring (Brown, Ergo Clear...).

FWIW, I used thick + 65g springs for my Ergo Clears and they came out great.

A tiny amount of oil, not a grease/oil mix.

Have you ever tried vintage blues with 60g springs and a tiny bit of GPL 103? They're heavenly ^-^

Well, it's subjective. I love vintage blues. However, I think they feel even better with 60g springs and a little bit on GPL 103 on the sliders and the tips of the legs. It dampens the click a little bit, but the tactile feel is still there - just much smoother than before.

Clicky switches are VERY easy to mess-up if not careful or not using the right kind of lubricant in the right places.  You can kill the click or make it very inconsistent from switch to switch.  I'd say unless you want to experiment with a sample few switches for a while and use the absolutely tiniest amounts of lubricants, it's not worth lubricating Blues.  I just did a batch of 100 Greens and spent some time experimenting, and while the end result was nice, I used tiny amounts of lube, with a lamp shining on my workspace so I could see the exactly where I placed the lubricant, glinting on the switch, and it was basically like watch repair tiny-scale work.  Thin lube would be what I'd use for Clicky switches.
