Title: [IC] GMK Choco Mint
Post by: BlinkTWICE on Sat, 05 October 2019, 11:02:01
Here is a colourway I have been working on and am considering JTK or GMK as my manufacturer, let me know about anything i should change, add, remove. [attachimg=1] This design is influenced from Japanese mint chocolate treats. [attachimg=2]

Quick comments ahoy!

- "Short" left Shift for ISO and ISANSI keyboards is 1.25U long, not 1.5U.
- You have an R4 \| key (that's good), but lack an R3 \| key. Note that the latter NEEDS to be present, while the former may be replaced by an R4 <> key if you prefer that one.
- That vertical Enter looks weird.

- I don't think I've ever seen a set where the 1.5U mods (Ctrl and Alt) are all replaced by 1.75U long counterparts. Do molds for those exist? Using those would require an 8U spacebar (WKL-like) or a 6U spacebar with 1U "Win" keys (which I don't see in the set).

- 1.75U Shift key but no accompanying R4 1U Fn key.

- Shouldn't the 1U R1 Delete key be Backspace instead?

- Two R1 1U Alt keys, no 1U Ctrl keys.

- On a strictly subjective note, I find the color assignments for the keys themselves rather weird.

Lots of different types of mint 'green'. The first one below is closer to what the original Mint Chocolate set was approaching - I was more commenting on the name however.

That's because it's not a thing. No idea why op thinks it is.

- 1.75U Shift key but no accompanying R4 1U Fn key.

Don't have to have a key there, that's where the up arrow goes in stuff like 65%/75%/96key/1800, etc.

True, but there's no indication about that in the original post (which seems to be supporting only full-size and TKL form factors, which begs the question of why bother either adding a 1.75U Shift key but no accompanying 1U Fn key, OR adding it but not the rest of the keys necessary for, at least, a 1800 form factor).

I advise looking at other GMK sets in IC and GB to see what their compatibility looks like.

considering this is called choco mint, I expected the base color of the alphas and anything else that shares that color to be some sort of brown

I mean yeah, there are different shades and named colors for mint (Mint, Mint green, Mint blue, etc). But the name Mint Chocolate evokes thoughts of a mint green like #98ff98 (or at least for me it does), so making the set mint blue was an odd choice in my opinion.

If OP changes the black to be more of a dark brown, then I think this set would be more of a "mint chocolate" than the actual Mint Chocolate set. There might be some similarities with the names, but while the inspiration comes from similar places the two sets are working with very different mint colors.

This looks pretty cool, but to be completely honest it doesn't really look like what you took inspiration from.
