Nice. Thank you for adding ISO support, the bottom engraving is fantastic, the silk-screen is classy and well done, and the overall minimal design is lovely.
Some form of PCB mount would make this board for me.
The renders do make it look silver to me though, I know it should be white but eh.
Also, how are the "glass" panels going to be mounted? It seems like the most fragile part of the design, while easy to replace, it's durability concerns me.
This idea is really cool. But I don’t think you should have argyle on the PCB. It really forces a distinct design style to the board that will clash with tons of keyset styles.
Quirky but quite cool. Could make a great gaming board. Will there be any lighting on the sides?
What's the intent with the I2C header? If you rearranged the pins so it is GND 5v SCK SDA, one could install an OLED in that location as well.Show Image(https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/517841096798109696/708461825704067143/unknown.png)
Would there be space to install a rotary encoder?
Wow, this is such an interesting design. Do you have an idea of how the clear windows would mount inside the case?
There will be grooves to hold foam that will in turn hold up the panels. So, the panels are kind of gasket mounted? haha. Thought about putting gasket mount in the title but thought that would be too bait and switch. lol.
Odds on this is going to be out of the question for me finance wise, but this looks so freakin' good.
I live in hope of a cheap version of this premium version of the cheap through-holes :)

As I only commissioned the design, I do not know the intent of the I2C header.
An OLED would be a great idea. However, I'm afraid I would not want to add it currently. If there is a 2nd round, it would definitely be considered.

Isn't acrylic is easily to scratch? Glass would be better I think.
It looks cool, but what the heck are those chips on the left and the right? I've never seen anything in a package like that on a modern keyboard. Are they just for looks or are those actual processors?
This is so nice. I love the look of nice electronic designs. I hope I can get one.
Are there other "good looking" electronic parts which could be added to the bottom corners, replacing the pattern? Copper coils (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Copper-wire-wound-coil-for-PCB_904687178.html (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Copper-wire-wound-coil-for-PCB_904687178.html), no function, just for the looks?

This is a different take on the through-hole keyboards kits out there like the gingham, plaid, discipline, etc. All the components you see are functional. To my knowledge, the left chip handles the matrix and the right handles the LED lighting.
Just take my money already.

Prototype PCBs are in. But I'm still waiting for the components to arrive. Pending no issues with the PCB, after I build one, I'll most hold a raffle for 3 of them for free (not including shipping) with a backplate, components, and spacers through an event (most likely Instagram like & tag).
I would also prefer not having the argyle pattern printed on the PCB.
Definitely interested.
Can you tell us if it's going to be an limited or unlimited GB?
Does the case have a seam? The renders don't show it but the bottom makes me think it has one. I like the design but I don't buy keyboards with seams because I don't like it.

I'm not suggesting you add the OLED, I'm suggesting you slightly change the pin arrangement so others can.
Definitely interested.

It will be limited. The details and options are still being hashed out but you can probably expect 100 to 200 units. Most likely right in the middle at around 150.
love the design aesthetic, especially the black. it's longer lengthwise than most 60s, so feels a little counter intuitive in terms of working against one of the benefits of a 60 keyboard.
still debating as it feels more like show piece than a daily driver, but at least it presents a 60 keyboard that is visually striking compared to others.
Thank you for your answer. I hope you will consider to raffle the GB spots and not FCFS. I feel like at least with the raffle, everyone has got the same chance. I can't compete with bots in the FCFS format. I tried joining many GBs that were limited and never got in. Not once.

awe snap, I didn't see that it was Alps compatible. Okay. I'm in.
I think you said you might do a 65 and 75% after the 60%, I'm sure it's very hard to estimate times but can you guestimate when would they be available ? If I have to wait like 1-2years to get the other version then I might just jump on the 60 lol

Hey Seoulcialite, not sure if it's too late for this but, would it be possible to put an LED beside each one of the diodes and have the LED light up when electricity flowed through it?
Edit: Hmmm... perhaps it would make the sides too wide.
Is there a discord for updates?

Decided to post a little tease. Prototype is currently in Jae's possession. He will be doing fitment testing for the plate, pcb, and see-through panels before sending it to me for final approval.

It seems like glass will not be viable. It's difficult to find a glazier that can cut to the specifications that we need, the tolerances would not be close enough, and also it'd be too costly. Jae has ordered acrylic panels which should arrive this week. So, we're hoping to finish fitment testing of all the parts soon.

That all makes sense. Thanks for the update. Such a lovely project.
What about offering an add on for an additional set of windows. Could keep them stored away for down the road if you get a bad scratch.

The shape of the acrylic seams rectangular so glass planels are easily doable on your side if you really want to have glass.
I was talking from your perspective. I meant that the customer can easily make the panels on their side. It wasn’t clear, my bad.

Glass panels were something we really wanted. It's not like we contacted one shop, was declined, and gave up on the idea. Jae has contacted a handful of glazier shop but the radius of the corners is too small. Also we would need 2mm thickness whereas most shops only do 4mm minimum. Finally, as I stated before, the tolerances would not be tight enough for the mounting system that we are using. No question that we could probably get something in that shape with glass but the chances that it wouldn't fit or would not be snug with the rubber mounting seams would be too high. However, we will be releasing the files for the panels after the group buy for anyone that wants to try to get them made themselves.

Expected timelframe for gb?
The implementation of window mount and the diffuser was not exactly satisfactory. We will be making some minor changes and ordering another prototype. We are aiming to have the GB in Q1 of next year. Also, it is quite likely that we will be able to offer more units than the previously mentioned estimate of around 200. I will provide more updates as I get them.
Maybe I missed it, but was (plate) mounting type listed anywhere?

- Aluminum housing
- Visible through-hole components

- Top mounted plate
- QMK/VIA
- USB-C

I don't see it anywhere either,
but there are no mounting tabs on the PCB, so not PCB mount;
no holes in the PCB for plate mount; and
no foam under the PCB that can be seen in renders, so I'm assuming either gasket/sandwich or topmount.
This board is all about looks for me though. No matter what kind of mounting, or even if it sounds horrific, I'll figure out a way to make it sound and feel good.

Did the prototype give any answers re: likelihood of running this with HHKB blocker option?
Suffice to say with the utterly garbage communication on basic points here, I won't be risking any money on a group buy with them.
Plenty of other keebs in the sea.
Will logoless version be possible like renders showed?
Jae will be building the prototype on Top Clack on January 17th 12pm PT / 3pm ET / 8pm UK!
Do you expect to start the group buy some time soon after the stream? :)
Any news if a HHKB top will be available?
I want to apologize for the lack of updates but that's partly because there wasn't much news. The testing of the prototype has taken longer than expected. The PCB and plate fits fine. But we are still tweaking the implementation of the windows and the diffuser. Also, there is some light bleed from the component side which we wish to address. Finally, Jae has been quite busy on the vendor side due to Brexit woes.
We are aiming to run the GB in Q1 but I don't want to make any promises. I'm just going to take Blizzard's stance on development and say, "It's done when it's done."

I never really liked the look of thru-hole keebs. Until the Argyle. I don't know what it is as this looks extremely similar to every other thru-hole. It just hits me right in my "open wallet" button.
Also, when the GB goes live, will we be able to mix and match the colors of cases with PCBs, or will they be sold as kitted units?
I'm very excited for this keeb! Jae on the stream said the GB might be shooting for late February. Is this accurate-ish? I might've just been hallucinating since I was very tired.

March would probably be a better estimate. Tweaks to the case has been made and a prototype will be made after CNY.
As for kitting, most likely a universal plate will be kitted as part of the base purchase and PCB colors will be able to be chosen.
Wish it would support split space bars :'(+1 to this
I'm waiting for the Mercutio, but I literally cannot wait to hear more news about this board.
Hopefully its in the 80-150$ price range, but if I must, I must.
also i was wondering if a discord server was going to be made for argyle soon. if possible, i'd just like a place to talk about this board and what other projects you can bring into the future after argyle

Can someone ELI5 what through hole technology is? I did research on thru hole vs standard pcb and still don't understand.
The PCB has holes, and you have can hand solder the components much easier. Many PCBs have SMD components, which are easy for a pick and place machine, but through hole soldering is way more fun doing it by hand. It is just the extra step DIY to say it short. (However many machine-assembled PCB still have TH parts, but I think you get the point)
I see. Hence the PCB's bigger footprint right? Because components are soldered on individually instead of "printed/soldered" to the surface of the board? (btw, sick keyboard in your signature)Exactly. The Discipline65 and Mysterium TKL by coseyfrutti have a similar approach

NOW it's safe to say that it won't be happening in March.
Sorry for being impatient, but I really would love some updates or anything about this.

We're at the mercy of the manu unfortunately. We are still waiting for the 2nd prototype but ready to go full speed once we confirm it is satisfactory.

What's the new ETA for argyle now? also i kinda agree with removing the argyle design on the pcb. it ruins the simplicity of the keysets. still rooting for argyle to go into gb tho!

No new ETA for now but the 2nd prototype is on its way to Jae right now.

No, I don't think Seoulcialite does have a Discord at the moment. I'm watching the thread every morning, can give you a shout if something happens ;)

is the project dead or something? its been a while since the last update on gh

I keep seeing this board in quite a few keycap GB. Always a good sign ;)
as much as I hate admitting it this project has to be dead at this pointI keep seeing this board in quite a few keycap GB. Always a good sign ;)
Not really indicative of anything other than that it looks nice so people still pick it for renders to show off proposed caps. Once the model is out there they aren't going to stop using it just because the project died.
man, if only this was a 65%/had an arrow cluster support. I hope this run is successful, maybe then we'll get 65+ in the future :)
Wow! Great work! Do you know when I could buy it(Im sorry for being impatient). I doesn't have to be accurate. Also do you have a price range for this keyboard (I was looking for around $150-ish max).
Keep up the good work.

Er... well we've all felt this way for about a year and a half now, so I wouldn't expect the keyboard to materialize any time soon. As far as price, I can't imagine it being under $200, so it's probably more than you're wanting to spend. My bet is somewhere around $280-$350, depending on the number of boards made.

Wait, so is it dead or not? :'(Well, in September, Jae mentioned a few upcoming GBs they have yet to start preparing for. Argyle was one of them. See this https://discord.com/channels/556953560835686431/559678236481814548/882665268919283752

are there any renders of the silkscreened pcb? the renders look really dope without em.

Hi everyone!
Sorry for lack of updates but that was due to well... any real progress until now.
I am hoping to post the following concrete details within the next week: pricing, options, and GB date (we are shooting for next month!).
Also, I'd like to announce that Alexotos should be streaming a prototype build before the start of the GB so probably towards the end of this month.
I believe the only change made from the prototype Alex will be building and the final version is the type of bumpon (circular feet in the proto vs. rectangular feet in the final).
100% in for HHKB.Oh, please, yes!
Since the project seems pretty close to GB as of recent updates, is there a price estimate on what this board will cost? Thank you for all of the time you put into this beautiful keyboard, I hope I can afford it :)just under $400 as of now but im sure they will find ways to make it even more expensive by the gb date.
