Title: is there any place to buy this left handed TKL keyboard?? Vortex K87e?
Post by: atarione on Mon, 06 November 2017, 14:27:40
HOLY COW... I want one of these, I'm left handed and have always pondered going true left hand config.... then hurt right hand unable to mouse right handed (currently) probably not long term issue..  but then I  have seen this mentioned some time ago...

did Vortex actually produce this product and if so how to find one??  I have been using my Sensei mouse flipped to left hand config and my Filco MT2 TKL for now.. but a full left handed tkl keyboard could be amazing...

I don't understand why a left handed person would want this. A normal keyboard gives you the best of all worlds. You get all the extra keys but your mouse also isn't spaced out. And you can even use the arrow keys while also using the mouse.

This is a keyboard for right handed people who have always been disadvantaged by standard keyboard ergonomics.

I don't think this ever reached production. If you like this though, check out the Southpaw, it's a 65% + numpad keyboard that allows for the use of arrow keys on the left as well.

This not just for left handed people. I'm right handed, but I use my left hand for all autohotkey, keyboard shortcut while right hand 100% on the mouse. I find this more productive either work/game. I need function keys both work/game, so Southpaw 65% isn't for me either.
I've been using these setup for years.

Oops, sorry for the late.
Not many choices for lefty mechanical keyboard in the market. But at least DSI uses Cherrry MX switches, plate mount. Downside are, big ass enter, too bulky.

OR,  you can get a 60%/75% and do away with those columns all together.

I own a LH DSI- got it because I thought the ergonomics would be nice, but the muscle memory for the arrow keys was too great and I kept reaching for keys that weren't there. Didnt give it enough time, but it was annoying enough that I ditched it pretty quickly. So for me, southpaw layout sounds like best of both worlds.

Instead, I've got a Nyquist (could use a let's split) that I'll be converting one half (5*6) into a combo numpad and arrows and pgup, etc so I can have that on the left when I want it.

Well, you could those separate keyboards. like the NUM pad is separated from the main keyboard, then it is okay to u! Just search it, there are numerous of them.

I just finished this build a few days ago.

I made mistakes in the PCB, notably the Left Shift cannot be an 2.25u Shift (due to wrong placing of switch position and stabilizer) => have to use 1u + 1.25u or 1.25u + 1u.
the case is acrylic sandwich style with vinyl sticker on it (carbon fiber pattern as you can see), the clearance is a bit tight so pulling keycaps around the edges is a bit difficult.
the board can be programmed with Bootmapper Client.

anyone interested?
