Question regarding keyboard storage

I have begin to acquire a good collection of keyboards and tend to switch out keycaps very often!

I have a few boards which I store without keycaps just sitting in the closet. Is this potentially bad because of potential dust or stuff getting into the boards/switch or am I just overly worried? Would storing in a box be sufficient?

I don't want to put back on the stock keycaps because then if I use a board, I would have to pull off the stock keycaps and then put of different keycaps. Also, I don't have the boxes for most of the boards, so that's not an option.

Just kidding. If you can afford it, I'd suggest some sleeves for them just to be on the safe side. It's nice knowing they're in a cozy, dust free, and waterproof (if you get them from Pete at 1UpKeyboards) bag!

I will eventually sell once I get a big enough collection and have a bunch of stuff laying around! They are mostly 104-108 keyboards and TKL. I don't think I want to purchase a bunch of sleeves for extra boards! I would rather spend the money on artisans!

I am going to wait for a few more people to chime in, but looks like I'm just going to take the extra time to put on the stock keycaps to provide crap getting into the switches!

I was going to suggest something along the lines of covering them up with a sheet to prevent dust from settling on them.

Also even if you do put keycaps back on dust would still be able to creep through the cracks.

If the barebones board gets dusty you could just use compressed air to blow out the dust.

Personally I would keep it under a sheet or in a sleeve.

Cardboard keyboard mailers -- stack them, label them. A nice storage solution and pretty cheap.

I wish there was something like that out here though - my keyboards are all over the place!

We do get our boxes for free! And they are also decorated in Christmas theme right now because of the Holidays!

Indeed. You'd want the USPS Board Game box. You get a lot of them (25), and are handy for shipping out boards if need be.

I store mine on these MDF boxes, originally made to fit glasses/watches. They cost like $5 and come with a cute little glass window where I can see the keyboard inside. After a quick spray painting, it can actually look very nice  :D

Too bad the largest size I could find can only fit a TKL.

I'd second the advice on those free USPS mailing boxes.  You could even tape a few together to make a type of shelving unit to keep all the keyboards together.

I keep my non-used ones in their original boxes, but the ones that are with a system are just uncovered ready to use.

I did get a carrying case for transporting one of my Ms with me when travelling.
