if it's got sanwa parts,  it's pretty much all the same stuff..  just comes down to looks..

pick one that you like the look of..   if it has sanwa, done,  if it doesn't , buy some sanwa buttons and sanwa stick and solder it in.

All that removable/ moddable is gimmicky,   just like moddable switch plates,  you do it maybe once, and never touch it again.

I'd say this is the best. They're very popular and also very moddable. They have 2 versions, sanwa and Korean.  I think it's the only stick that's compatible with both sanwa and Korean parts.  It has a full metal case as well.

So Sanwa > Hori is the general consensus?

So Sanwa > Hori is the general consensus?

hori makes sticks using sanwa parts.

I don't think hori make any sticks without sanwa anymore,  they used to , i have an hrap original which i had to put in sanwa myself.

So Sanwa > Hori is the general consensus?

For the most part, yes. Hori uses Sanwa buttons, but they moved on to using their own stick. The Hori stick (Hyabusa) has an issue with wobbling though. Sanwa is pretty much the standard. Most tournaments are won with Sanwa parts. Fairly recently though Korean sticks have emerged and started winning. I have always preferred Sanwa parts. HAPP stuff to me feels cheap and wears out over time. It's funny you brought this up, the last week or so I was considering getting a new stick too. I will be going with the Etokki Omni in the Korean version, because I'm curious.

man,  there was this super cute female in the audience once..

I can't get into tekken..

For example, you have games like CHESS, many many possible moves..   but it's playable because the rules don't change..

Fighting games change up the rules with every new iteration or patch..    just throwing alot of your practice hours away.

You can get bat tops for other sticks. Just know that the Fanta stick works a little different than the others on the market. The Fanta stick doesnt have a traditional gate like the others. The "gate" is internal. It also doesnt use a spring, it uses a rubber gasket. Its best used without touching the gate. They call it hair trigger, so its meant to play just past deadzone. Personally thats how I play so i'm looking forward to it lol.

Oh I see, so it operates more like a flight throttle than a fight stick? Maybe it'd be wise to pick one up to just test, $30 is't too bad of an investment.

Welp, got mostly everything I wanted ordered. Should take almost a month for everything to arrive - will post more when the time comes.

Went with the Omni Sanwa Edition after doing some research. Probably could've gone w/ a Quanba and saved $50 but whatever, I can mod to Fanta if need be w/ the Omni.
Sanwa wooden bat-top w/ a 2lb spring
8-way gate
and some pretty gold Sanwa buttons w/ silencers (now to wait for Sanwa to make 'em in 24mm as well)

Very excited, my first fightstick!

Great choice, and nice first stick man! I blew my new stick budget on a a Ribbit haha. I just got notification that these (https://paradisearcadeshop.com/obs-mx-button-system/1626-obs-mx-drop-in-kit.html) just came back in stock. They seem to sell out pretty quick so I'll probably pick them up and throw them in my modded Chun-Li stick. Let me know how you like that stick, its supposed to be awesome!

i'm not convinced mx is the right choice for fight stick,  because the stem is not round,  which means applying pressure to different areas of the button top will result in slightly different actuation timing.

I'm intrigued to see how it will feel, but I'll stick to Sanwa for now. Always a safe bet.

I use an old Hori Fight Stick 2 and a Soul Calibur 2 stick. I don't really play fighters it's more retro games. Think I played approx €20 for both of them new.

I used have a Namco stick which I loved weight and feel of but it went rusty sadly. Didn't think my room was that damp.

IMHO,  fighting games should be installed on OLDER gen motherboards Pre-sandybridge.. (IF POSSIBLE)

If you look at the dpc latency of older boards,  1-10..  vs the best gaming boards out today, 50-150.

Definitley not under $200 but here we go :)

Razer Panthera w/ Seimitsu LS-32-1 and colored plungers, the over-sized ball is actually really comfortable, I think I like it.

On the TE2+ I'm putting an kowal over-sized actuator on the stock JLF, using the stock spring. I tried the 2lb spring and it's too heavy for me..

I haven't competed in years (2010 EVO) but I had a lot of fun building my fightsticks back in the day. Some of the stuff you guys can do these days with parts from Japan and stuff is amazing so mine are pretty basic in comparison. That said, great idea for a thread!  :thumb:

My SFIV Balrog inspired Hori. Basic Sanwas and a CF knob.

And my dual-modded TE (PS3/360) with custom etched plexiglass and a second printed layer for the red (eyes/logo). I'm a bit of a metal-head and big fan of the artist Giger (Alien movie franchise) so that's "Birth Machine" on the left and Vic Rattlehead from Megadeth down in the corner. An odd mix, but it worked out.

Oh yeah ! OBS MX is the best way to go.The other drop-in hotswap buttons are supposedly wobbly and have problems registering a button press.

The buttons feel so much better now, it really makes the stock sanwa pale in comparison.

They can do LEDs too but i believe you have to solder in your own resistors.

Seriously, I'm half tempted to mod my old sticks now that my old hobby has bled into my newer one with MKs. Only problem is, I'm not into any of the current fighting games so they'd just be for decoration  :p
