milky vs normal Gateron
« on: Thu, 24 September 2020, 01:59:03 »
Browsing switches i found that there existed milky Gateron and normal Gateron switches, is there any advantages to going with milky other than more light diffusion?
Thanks in advance.

This is from my experience but Milky Gateron seems better then your normal with clear top in sound. But you should get the ones with black bottom and milky tops. The black bottom is better then the milky bottoms in smoothness.

Generally you want to avoid milky bottom housings as they're very scratchy. Best you can get stock is a black bottom + milky top, or if you can't get hold of those, black bottom + clear top.

i was wondering because the price delta is pretty small and the plan was to build a mechanical keyboard as a gift for a friend, so if milky was better might as well but it seems that given that the one i saw were the full milky i should avoid them?

So far using the Gat Yellows I have in one of my boards (Milk top and black bottom), have been smooth as hell and compete w/ my Gat Ink Black v1's (both sets are lubed 205g0/105 on the springs).  I've noticed it's a mixed bag on which is better and I'm sure some batches are better than others.

Smoothness and scratchiness negligible once u lube it, although it is true that milky bottoms are bit more scratchy than black bottoms. Slightly different upstroke sound tho due to the top housing. Clear top sounds higher pitch than milky top. Milky top sounds just slightly deeper

Once u put it on a board typing on it the difference is really negligible.

My friend yui

It's fine if you use full milk shell if that's available. just lube it well and you should not have to worry about the scratch feeling. You can always just cherry pick the ones that are not scratchy.
